This study proposes a method to improve network security systems based on critical success factors for systems development. To accomplish the research objective, the study analyzes required functions of network security systems and reviews existing methods to improve network security systems. Based on the analyses and literature review, critical success factors for development of network security systems are identified and a new method to improve network security systems based on the critical success factors is proposed. The proposed method to improve network security systems is based on utilizing multi-core processors. A prototype is developed and validated. This study will provide a good case in the network security area where research incorporating both engineering and management disciplines lacks.

In this paper, we proposed security management architecture that combines programmable network technology and policy based network management technology to manage efficiently heterogeneous security systems. By using proposed security management architecture, a security administrator can manage heterogeneous security systems using security policy, which is automatically translated into a programmable security policy and executed on programmable middleware of security system. In addition, programmable middleware that has the features of programmable network can reduce excessive management traffic. We showed that the programmable middleware could reduce the load of management traffic by comparing processing time between the proposed architecture and PBNM architecture.

Many studies have been done on secure operating system using secure kernel that has various access control policies for system security. Secure kernel can protect user or system data from unauthorized and/or illegal accesses by applying various access control policies like DAC(Discretionary Access Control), MAC(Mandatory Access Control), RBAC(Role Based Access Control), and so on. But, even if secure operating system is running under various access control policies, network traffic among these secure operating systems can be captured and exposed easily by network monitoring tools like packet sniffer if there is no protection policy for network traffic among secure operating systems. For this reason, protection for data within network traffic is as important as protection for data within local system. In this paper, we propose a secure operating system trusted channel, SOSTC, as a prototype of a simple secure network protocol that can protect network traffic among secure operating systems and can transfer security information of the subject. It is significant that SOSTC can be used to extend a security range of secure operating system to the network environment.

네트워크 보안시스템을 단일 요소로 구분하여 점검하고 있는 현실의 문제점을 개선하기 위해 본 논문은 네트워크 보안시스템 점검은 취약성을 찾는 것이 아니라, 네트워크 보안시스템을 이루는 각 보안장비가 유기적으로 잘 작동하는지 종합적으로 점검하는 것임에 착안 네트워크 보안시스템을 점검하는 자동화 방법을 제안하고 이를 구현하였다.

공항 경비보안은 공항의 시설 및 자산을 도난, 범죄 등으로부터 예방하기 위하여 살피고 지키는 활동이다. 이러한 활동을 효율적으로 할 수 있도록 지원하는 시스템을 보안시스템이라 할 수 있다. 보안시스템은 보안센터시스템, CCTV시스템, 출입통제 시스템, 침입감지시스템, 경비통신시스템, 경고방송시스템, 보안네트워크시스템, 외곽침입감지시스템, 검색시스템 및 정보보안시스템이 있으며 이에 대하여 살펴보고자 한다.

본 논문에서는 정책 기반의 네트워크 관리 구조를 확장하여, 보안 네트워크의 구성의 자동화를 지원할 수 있는 보안 네트워크 관리 구조와 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 구조 및 방법은 보안 관리 서버가 보안 시스템의 역할과 능력 그리고 보안 정책의 역할과 시간 정보를 기반으로 하여 보안 시스템이 필요로 하는 최적의 보안 정책을 자동 결정하고 보안 정책 룰을 가장 효과적이고 효율적으로 실행할 수 있는 보안 시스템을 자동 결정할 수 있게 한다 본 논문에서는 기존의 네트워크 시스템과 보안 시스템을 통합 제어할 수 있는 SNMP 프로토콜기반의 보안 네트워크 토폴러지 맵 자동 생성기도 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안된 구조와 방법의 우수성을 보여주기 위하여 공격에 대한 자동 대응 기능을 시뮬레이션하고 그 성능을 평가한다.

Policies are collections of general principles specifying the desired behavior and state of a system. Network management is mainly carried out by following policies about the behavior of the resources in the network. Policy-based (PB) network management supports to manage distributed system in a flexible and dynamic way. This paper focuses on configuration management based on Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards. Network security approaches include the usage of intrusion detection system to detect the intrusion, building firewall to protect the internal systems and network. This paper presents how the policy-based framework is collaborated among the network security systems (intrusion detection system, firewall) and intrusion detection systems are cooperated to detect the intrusions.

Internet attack incidents have steadily increased along with the increase in Internet users. To protect systems and networks from these attacks, advanced security systems have been developed. Now that these security systems are operating, their successful management is more important than the purchase and establishment of new information security systems. The acquisition of good systems is ineffective and financially wasteful unless they are managed properly. Adequate management policy has recently become the focus of users. In other words, for companies and educational institutions with their domains, capital expenses are enormous to bear, and good security staffs are difficult to find, for which reasons outsourcing vendors or Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) that manage and operate the information security systems of certain domains become very appealing. Today, customers expect ISPs to perform MSSP services that used to be carried out by the security companies. This document presents the role and necessity of ISPs as MSSPs.

최근 공격기술은 네트워크의 진화와 함께 다양한 형태로 나타나고 있으며, 대부분의 네트워크에서는 다양한 보안장치들을 통해 대응하고 있다. 또한 외부 공격으로부터 내부 네트워크의 정보자산을 보호하지 위해 기존 네트워크에 필요한 보안시스템들을 추가 배치하고 있다. 그러나 이와 같은 네트워크 구축방법 및 보안시스템의 사용은 내부 네트워크의 성능과 보안에 큰 영향을 미친다. 따라서 본 논문은 내부 네트워크의 보안시스템 사용 및 구축에 따른 성능저하요인을 분석함으로써, 향후 내부 네트워크의 성능 및 보안성 향상을 위한 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

본 논문에서는 이기종의 보안 장비를 보다 효율적으로 관리할 수 있는 보안 관리 구조와 관리 트래픽의 부하를 줄일 수 있는 프로그래머블 미들웨어를 제안하였다. 제안된 보안 관리 구조는 정책 기반 네트워크 관리 (Policy Based Network Management: PBNM) 구조에 프로그래머블 네트워크 기법을 접목한 것으로, 다양한 이기종의 보안 장비를 보안 정책을 통해 관리할 수 있으며, 보안 장비 간 연동을 제공한다. 또한, 미들웨어에서 보안 정책을 실행 가능한 형태로 변환해 줌으로써 관리상의 편이성을 제공하고 정책 서버의 부하를 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 구조와 PBNM 구조에서의 정책적용 및 변환시간과 메시지 전달시간을 비교함으로써 프로그래머블 미들웨어가 관리 트래픽의 부하를 줄일 수 있다는 것을 검증하였다.
