  • The research is to identify social networks of problems that have an influence on the quality of ageing people's lives by using social network analysis, based on the premise that there are differences in networks of ageing problems in urban and rural areas. From analyzing network of ageing people's problems using NodeXL, vertices in the networks of both urban and rural areas are well-connected. For urban areas, financial poverty is the core problem related to the quality of life. It has direct connections with illness and health, family responsibility, housing, role loss in community, and employment, which have positive or negative interactions with the quality of older people's lives. For rural areas, on the other hand, role loss in community is the major problem. It has direct connections with the elderly abuse, financial poverty, leisure activity, divorce, isolation and loneliness from society, education, and suicide. As a result, the research shows that the problems of ageing people have strong linkages and interactive effects with a structure of network, and the networks are different depending on types of places for living.

  • Present green space planning of Korea pay little attention to biodiversity conservation in urban areas. The quality of urban wildlife habitat has been deteriorated severely due to fragmentation and isolation of urban open spaces. The application of ecological corridors to urban green space planning and management can greatly enhance the bird habitat of Seoul. The objectives of this study were to evaluate bird habitat potential of existing urban parks of Seoul, and to investigate methods to develop ecological corridors for wild birds. This study consists of three parts. The first part is to construct bird species/habitat relationship model. The second part is to evaluate 207 urban parks of Seoul with the model. Based on the relative potential for bird habitat, urban parks of Seoul can be classified into cores, nodes, and points of the network. Outcomes of this part can also be used to enhance the quality of bird habitats by identifying limits or weakness of existing green spaces for bird habitat. The final part is to develop three green network plans; north-south network, the Han river network, and a district network for Kangnam-Gu.

  • The effects of silica-silane in CIIR vibration isolation compound were investigated regarding mechanical and dynamic properties. Addition of silica-silane in the compound resulted in higher tear resistance strength and elongation at break than the control, which was increased by 13% and 14%, respectively. Other values such as tensile strength and hardness did not show significant changes. Viscoelastic property results supported that the improvement of tear resistance strength and elongation at break resulted from the formation of 3-dimensional network structure between silica and CIIR. The mechanism of the tear resistance strength and elongation at break improvement was discussed.

  • This paper presents a theoretical and numerical analysis for thermal isolation of silicon micro-structures, especially for a large size with poor thermal conductivity, as well as straightforward solution for such an issue. Additional metal patterns underneath the silicon structures effectively reduces the thermal isolation. Heat transfer mechanism is analyzed using an equivalent circuit of thermal network including plasma, a heat source, heat capacitors, and thermal resistances. The FEM simulation was carried out to investigate the temperature change of silicon micro-structures according to process time. The temperature of silicon micro-structures with 2 ${\mu}m$ thick chrome layer at a steady state is $86^{\circ}C$, an approximately 40% decrease from the silicon microstructure without thin metal ($122^{\circ}C$)

  • This paper proposes a miniaturized high-isolation diversity antenna for wearable wireless body area network (WBAN) applications. An inverted-F type radiating element is used to reduce the overall dimension of the proposed antenna to $30mm{\times}30mm{\times}2.5mm$. The antenna performance on the human body phantom is analyzed through simulation and the performance of the fabricated antenna is verified by comparing the measured data with that of the simulation when the antenna is placed on a semi-solid flat phantom with equivalent electrical properties of a human body. The fabricated antenna has a 10 dB return loss bandwidth over the Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM) band from 2.35 GHz to 2.71 GHz and isolation is higher than 28 dB at 2.45 GHz. The measured peak gain of antenna elements # 1 and # 2 is -0.43 dBi and -0.54 dBi, respectively. Performance parameters are analyzed, including envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), mean effective gain (MEG), and the MEG ratio. In addition, the specific absorption ratio (SAR) distributions of the proposed antenna are measured for consideration in use.

  • In this paper, dual-polarized antenna for UHF RFID reader has been described. Feeding network and antenna structure have been designed, such that both port isolation between transmitting and receiving port and cross-polarization be maximized, and overall antenna size be minimized as well. In addition, sequentially rotated feeding scheme has been adopted to secure axial ratio bandwidth in the circular polarization. Test results show 2.35 dBi antenna gain in 900 to 928 MHz frequency range and 150 MHz axial ratio bandwidth, respectively. And, the proposed antenna has a port isolation of -40 to -38 dB and a cross-polarization of -40 to -30 dB.

  • A 8$\times$4 microstrip antenna array is designed at 5.3 GHz and its characteristics are investigated with respect to the application in dual polarized synthetic aperture radars. The design is focused on the achievement of a wide bandwidth, a high polarization purity, a low loss, a good isolation and some mechanical requirements suitable for the application. The antenna is fed by a -3 dB tapered feed network, and is composed of dual polarized SSFIP (Strip-Slot-Foam-Inverted Patch) elements with honeycomb and shielding plane. Simulation results for the antenna array are presented and compared with measurements. It is observed that the antenna shows a bandwidth of 80 MHz, a polarization isolation better than 20 dB, an isolation of 40 dB, and good mechanical characteristics.

  • Several stubs are added to a rectangular slot for giving an improvement in both return loss and isolation for a slot-coupled microstrip directional coupler. Its closed-form design equations are derived by velocity equalization of two normal modes and network equivalence. It was verified that nearly ideal performance is achievable by design examples.

  • Optical Switching Matrix (OSM) or Optical Multistage Interconnection Networks (OMINs) comprising photonic switches have been studied extensively as important interconnecting blocks for Optical Cross Connects (OXC) based on Optical Burst Switching (OBS). A basic element of photonic switching networks is a 2$\times$2 directional coupler with two inputs and two outputs. This paper is concerned with the diagnosis of multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. As the network size becomes larger in these days, the conventional diagnosis methods based on tests and simulation become inefficient, or even more impractical. We propose a simple and easily implementable algorithm for detection and isolation of the multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. Specifically. we develop an algorithm for isolation of the source fault in switching elements whenever the multiple crosstalk-faults arc detected in OSM. The proposed algorithm is illustrated by an example of 16$\times$16 OSM.

  • In this paper, 3-phase hybrid series active power filter for compensate current harmonics, voltage drop and unbalanced voltage in the network presented. The proposed system is implemented with a space vector modulation voltage source inverter and a high pass filter connected in parallel to the power system. Here the load is six-pulses thyristor rectifier. The phase angle detected in order to generation reference voltage at load terminal is synchronized with the positive sequence component of the unbalanced source by using symmetrical component transformation. The proposed system has an function harmonic isolation between source and load, voltage regulation, and unbalance compensation. Therefore, what the power system is improved quality, the source current is maintained as a nearly sinusoidal waveform and the load voltage is regulated with a rated voltage regardless of the source variation condition. To verify the validity of the proposed compensating system, the computer simulation and experiment are carried out.
