  • Present study deals with the development of finite element based solution methodology to investigate active control of dynamic response of delaminated composite shells with piezoelectric sensors and actuators. The formulation is based on first order shear deformation theory and an eight-noded isoparametric element is used. A coupled piezoelectric-mechanical formulation is used in the development of the constitutive equations. For modeling the delamination, multipoint constraint algorithm is incorporated in the finite element code. A simple negative feedback control algorithm coupling the direct and converse piezoelectric effects is used to actively control the dynamic response of delaminated composite shells in a closed loop employing Newmark's time integration scheme. The validity of the numerical model is demonstrated by comparing the present results with those available in the literature. A number of parametric studies such as the locations of sensor/actuator patches, delamination size and its location, radius of curvature to width ratio, shell types and loading conditions are carried out to understand their effect on the transient response of piezoceramic delaminated composite shells.

  • This paper presents a modular structure design of analog Hopfield neural network. Each multiplier consists of four MOS transistors which are connected to an op-amp at the front end of a neuron. A pair of MOS transistor is used in order to maintain linear operation of the synapse and can produce positive or negative synaptic weight. This architecture can be expandable to any size neural network by forming tree structure. By altering the connections, other nework paradigms can also be implemented using this basic modules. The stength of this approach is the expandability and the general applicability. The layout design of a four-neuron fully connected feedback neural network is presented and is simulated using SPICE. The network shows correct retrival of distorted patterns.

  • Accelerator Driven System (ADS) named HYPER(Hybrid Power Extraction Reactor) is being developed for the transmutation of nuclear waste in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI). The concept of the HYPER is using 1GeV proton to drive a subcritical core. HYPER system is believed to have much more stable dynamics than the critical system in terms of neutronics. However, the HYPER system is supposed to have some drawbacks for the cooling system accidents. Loss of Flow(LOF) and Loss of Heat Sink (LOHS) cause a strong damage. As results, those accidents would stop the power production in the critical system. On the other hand, the negative reactivity feedback could not stop the HYPER system because the HYPER is driven by an accelerator rather than reactivity.(omitted)

  • Suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS) family members are negative feedback regulators of the Jak/Stat pathway, which is an essential inflammatory signaling pathway. We investigated expression of eight members of the SOCS family in rat astrocytes, using two inflammatory stimulants, PMA and IFN-${\gamma}$. Only a few SOCS genes were induced by both stimulants, and we detected an increase in SOCS5 protein with PMA. PMA activated the Jnk, Erk, p38, and Jak/Stat signal pathways. In addition, it increased the level of activated-Stat3 resulting from tyrosine phosphorylation. A gel-shift assay showed that a protein in nuclear extracts from PMA-treated cells was able to bind to Stat binding elements. These results suggest that activated Stat3 binds to SOCS promoters and leads to their transcriptional induction.

  • The purpose of this research is to test the effects of employee perceived job characteristics on service quality. Empirical analysis was based on the data of 692 hotel employees from Seoul and Gyung-gi province. To test the relationship between job characteristics and service quality, multiple regression analysis was applied, and hierarchial regression analysis(Cohen & Cohen, 1983) applied to test the moderating effects of gender and tenure. Multiple regressional analysis showed that job importance, job variety, and feedback had an affirmative impact on tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, but autonomy had a negative impact on tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance.

  • The KALIMER core, of which nuclear design is largely governed by inherent safety and reactivity control issues, is fueled with metallic fuel, and the initial core will be loaded with 20% enriched Uranium metal fuel. KALIMER safety design objectives include the accommodation of unprotected, ATWS events without operator action, and without the support of active shutdown, shutdown heat removal, or any automatic system without damage to the plant and without jeopardizing public safety. The transient analysis of the core designs has been focused on severe events to assess the margins in the design, and ATWS events are the most severe events that must be accommodated by the KALIMER design. The ATWS performance has been evaluated for the preliminary initial core design of KALIMER with a particular emphasis on the inherent negative reactivity feedback effects, including the Doppler, sodium density, fuel axial expansion, core radial expansion, and control rod driveline expansion. Results show that the Uranium metal core design meets the temperature limits with margin.

  • The present paper describes the vibration control experiment of composite plates with bonded piezoelectric sensor and actuator. The system is modeled as two degree-of-freedom system using modal coordinates and the system parameters are obtained from vibration tests. Kalman filter is adopted for extracting modal coordinates from sensor signal, and control algorithms applied to the system are Linear Quadratic Gaussian(LQG) control, Bang-Bang Control (BBC), Negative Velocity Feedback(NVF), Proportional Derivative Control(PDC). From observation of the spillover and control perfomance, it is concluded that a higher order control algorithm such as LQG rather than BBG, NVF, PDC is suitable for efficient simultaneous control of both bending and twisting modes of composite plates.

  • The flexural vibration of laminated composite beams with active and passive constrained layer damping has been investigated to design a structure with maximum possible damping capacity. The equations of motion are derived fro flexural vibrations of symmetrical,. multi-layer laminated beams. The damping ratio and model damping of the first bending mode are calculated by means of iterative complex eigensolution method. The direct negative velocity feedback control is used for the active constrained layer damping. It is shown that the flexible laminated beam is more effective in the vibration control for both active and passive constrained layer damping. and this paper addresses a design strategy of laminated composite under flexural vibrations with constrained layer damping.

  • DC motor is easy to control and can make torque easily. DC motor uses wide range. But DCmotor have limited by using a brush and structural complexity. But, BLDC doesn't have brush so that is more simple than DC motor, and the rotor of BLDC motor is made by permanent magnet that dose not need to make a fixed flux speed for flux current. BLDC motor is very efficiency, controllable, and reliable. This paper presents an error detection with a BLDC motor current. Generally, BLDC motor current is used to current feedback, so that can make a critical fault in the system. this paper suggests to detect error by inspection of threshold current value both positive and negative.
