  • A passive prismatic-shaped isolation platform (PIP) is proposed to realize enhanced quasi-zero stiffness (QZS) effect. The design concept uses a horizontal spring to produce a tunable negative stiffness and installs oblique springs inside the cells of the prismatic structure to provide a tunable positive stiffness. Therefore, the QZS effect can be achieved by combining the negative stiffness and the positive stiffness. To this aim, firstly, the mathematical modeling and the static analysis are conducted to demonstrate this idea and provide the design basis. Further, with the parametric study and the optimal design of the PIP, the enhanced QZS effect is achieved with widened QZS range and stable property. Moreover, the dynamic analysis is conducted to investigate the vibration isolation performance of the proposed PIP. The analysis results show that the widened QZS property can be achieved with the optimal designed structural parameters, and the proposed PIP has an excellent vibration isolation performance in the ultra-low frequency due to the enlarged QZS range. Compared with the traditional QZS isolator, the PIP shows better performance with a broader isolation frequency range and stable property under the large excitation amplitude.

  • Corrosion of the headed studs shear connectors is an important factor in the reduction of the durability and mechanical properties of the steel-concrete composite structure. In order to study the effect of stud corrosion on the mechanical properties in the negative moment region of steel-concrete composite beams, the corrosion of stud was carried out by accelerating corrosion method with constant current. Static monotonic loading was adopted to evaluate the cracking load, interface slip, mid-span deflection, and ultimate bearing capacity of four composite beams with varying corrosion rates of headed studs. The effect of stud corrosion on the stiffness of the composite beam's hogging moment zone during normal service stage was thoroughly examined. The results indicate that the cracking load decreased by 50% as the corrosion rate of headed studs increase to 10%. Meanwhile, due to the increase of interface slip and mid-span deflection, the bending stiffness dropped significantly with the same load. In comparison to uncorroded specimens, the secant stiffness of specimens with 0.5 times ultimate load was reduced by 25.9%. However, corrosion of shear studs had no obvious effect on ultimate bending capacity. Based on the experimental results and the theory of steel-concrete interface slip, a method was developed to calculate the bending stiffness in the negative bending moment region of composite beams during normal service stage while taking corrosion of headed studs into account. The validity of the calculation method was demonstrated by data analysis.

  • This paper investigates the asymmetric effect of social sentimental on an individual stock price return. For this purpose, four companies such as POSCO, Korean Electricity, AMORE PACIFIC, KIA Motors are chosen from KOSPI listed companies in terms of dataperspective. The main estimation results are as follows: the positive opinions affect only the stock prices return of three companies while the negative opinions affect all of the companies. It shows that positive or negative texts give asymmetric effect on stock price return and the effect of negative opinions is bigger than that of positive opinions. The results imply that investors are more sensitive to the negatives since they have the tendency of loss aversion. Also, it indicates that subjective opinion on SNS can be used as the proxy for the investment sentiment.

  • Sales promotion is defined as the short-term incentive to encourage the purchase or sale of products and services. Retailers conduct a variety of sales promotion to encourage the purchase or sale of products and services. It is often used to induce the purchase of customers in short term and to improve the relationship with customers in the long term. Many previous studies about the effect of price discount SP on increase in sales and image improvement have conducted. But the study of non-price promotion, especially SP with 'Gifts', meanwhile, has been seldom researched. This study is to investigate the effect of the Gift SP conducted by retailers on the customer evaluation of the product and its Gifts. This study is to investigate the effect of 'Gifts', among the non-price promotion, on the customer evaluation. First of all, previous studies about the effect (-) of Sp with 'Gifts' on the customer evaluation of the product and its Gifts, and the factors that offset the negative effect of SP with 'Gifts' on quality perception are to examined. In this study, additionally, the summary of the study based on the previous studies and the research subject in the future are to be presented. Firstly, to examine the previous researches on the effect of SP which retailers conduct on the increased sales and or enhanced image, price discount SP has attracted a lot of attention as a research subject but researches on non-price sales promotion, particularly on SP with gift have seldom conducted as a research subject. Secondly, in the previous studies relevant to Price Discount SP, the long-term negative (-) effect of the target product or brand of SP has been studied. However, a few researches on the long-term negative (-) effect of SP with gift have been conducted. Thirdly, it might be brand affinity and purchase limit that buffered the negative (-) effect on the perceived quality of SP with gift which retailers had conducted. In spite of various studies conducted by many researchers, each study have discussed the consequences under certain circumstances and integrated results of research have not been in progress. It may be the research issues left to us to clearly identify the psychological mechanism of consumers until the effect of SP happens in order to theorize SP and to present a practical and useful suggestion.

  • The present study explored a factor, social support, that could mediate the relationship between negative life events and behavioral problems during adolescence. It was hypothesized that social support from parents, peers, and teachers would be an effective mediator between negative life events and delinquent behavior. Data were collected from 161 of the 9th graders in a high school in a coastal community of Oregon. A series of path analyses using regression techniques was used to examine the research hypotheses. Results indicated that social support mediated the relationship between negative life events and delinquent behavior, implying the importance of social support from family, peers, and school in preventing delinquent behavior among adolescents. That is, negative life events were found to exert influence indirectly upon delinquent behavior through its direct effect on social support. Results were discussed in relation to the effects of negative life events on social support and delinquent behavior.

  • A multi-server queueing system with finite buffer is considered. The input flow is the BMAP (Batch Markovian Arrival Process). The service time has the PH (Phase) type distribution. Customers from the BMAP enter the system according to the discipline of partial admission. Besides ordinary (positive) customers, the Markovian flow (MAP) of negative customers arrives to the system. A negative customer can delete an ordinary customer in service if the state of its PH-service process belongs to some given set. In opposite case the ordinary customer is considered to be protected of the effect of negative customers. The stationary distribution and the main performance measures of the considered queueing system are calculated.
