Job Burnout, Engagement and Turnover Intention of Dietitians and Chefs at a Contract Foodservice Management Company

  • The purposes of the study were to assess levels of burnout, engagement, and turnover intention of dietitians and chefs and to investigate the relationships among the antecedents and consequences of burnout and engagement. A total of 257 dietitians and chefs at a contract foodservice management company in Korea were surveyed using a self-administered questionnaire. Burnout (exhaustion, cynicism, and professional efficacy) and engagement (vigor, dedication, and absorption) were measured with three dimensions each. The dietitians showed significantly higher exhaustion (p < .05) and significantly lower vigor and dedication than the chefs (ps < .05). The exhaustion and cynicism dimensions of burnout were negatively correlated with all three dimensions of engagement (ps < .001) and positively correlated with turnover intention (ps < .001). The professional efficacy was positively correlated with all three engagement dimensions (ps < .001), but not with turnover intent. In addition, turnover intention was positively correlated with negative affectivity and work-load and negatively correlated with vigor, dedication, and absorption. A series of hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to assess the effects of the personal (positive and negative affectivity) and situational factors (workload, interpersonal conflict) and job stresses on turnover intention. After removing the effects of the personal and situational factors, cynicism (p < .01) was the only significant predictor of turnover intention. Based on the findings, suggestions for recruiting and retaining qualified and motivated employees were provided.

은퇴 노인의 주관안녕과 신체건강에 영향을 미치는 요인들: 은퇴전 직종에 따른 종단 연구 (Psycho-Social Determinants of Subjective Well-being and Physical Health of a Retired Elders in Korea: A Longitudinal Study on the occupational classification)

  • 은퇴한 한국 노인의 주관안녕과 신체건강에 과거 경험한 질병 수, 경제상태 수준, 사회관계 요인들로는 배우자에 대한 만족, 자녀에 대한 만족, 자녀에 대한 기대, 사회적 지원 그리고 개인경험 요인으로는 자존심 욕구의 충족, 종교신앙, 정적정서, 부적정서, 건강행동으로는 음주행동 요인이 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 특히 은퇴 전에 종사하였던 직종의 유형에 따라 현재(T1)의 주관안녕 및 신체건강에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 비교해보고 이러한 요인들이 2년 후(T2)의 주관안녕과 신체건강에도 동일한 영향을 미치는지 종단적인 영향력을 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2003년(T1)과 2005년(T2)의 조사에 모두 참여한 서울과 춘천지역에 거주하는 65세 이상 노인 1,315명의 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 은퇴노인들 (n=735)이 현재 재직 중인 노인들(n=374)에 비하여 2003년과 2005년 모두에서 과거질병 및 종교신앙 수준이 높았으며, 경제상태, 사회지원, 자존욕구충족, 음주행동, 정적정서, 주관안녕 및 신체건강 지각 수준이 낮았다. 한편 재직 중인 노인 집단과 은퇴한 노인 집단의 2003년 주관안녕과 신체건강을 각각 설명해 보고자 12개 요인들을 단계별로 중다회귀 분석을 실시한 결과, 은퇴노인들의 주관안녕은 재직노인들(63.0%)과 달리 결혼만족과 음주행동 요인이 추가되어 8개 요인이 유의하게 설명하였다(70.5%). 은퇴노인들의 신체건강은 재직노인들(33.7%)과 달리 자녀기대와 음주행동 요인이 추가되어 5개 요인이 유의하게 설명하였다(36.4%). 은퇴노인들의 2년 후 주관안녕은 재직노인들(44.7%)과 달리 결혼만족과 신체건강 요인이 추가되어 5개 요인이 유의하게 설명하였으며(41.8%), 신체건강은 결혼만족, 정적정서 및 부적정서 요인이 추가되어 5개 요인이 26.5%를 유의하게 설명하였다. 은퇴노인 집단들의 경우, 직종별로 세분한 중다회귀 분석 결과도 제시하였다. 끝으로 본 연구의 결과를 논의하고 장래 연구를 위한 시사점을 제안하였다.

The Role of Visitor's Positive Emotions on Satisfaction and Loyalty with the Perception of Perceived Restorative Environment of Healing Garden

  • Background and objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of visitors' positive emotions on satisfaction and loyalty with the perception of restorative environment of a healing garden created in an urban agriculture expo. Methods: The psychological indicators to the images of the healing garden were analyzed by the visitors' demographic variables and the three factors of plant cultivation activity level: plant cultivation experience, plant preference, and plant-related event. Results: Between age groups and occupational groups, significant differences were found statistically. The Perceived Restorativeness Scale(PRS) showed significantly differences between age groups in repose, fascination and legibility. The Positive Affect & Negative Affect Schedule(PANAS) showed statistically significant differences between age groups in positive emotions. In addition, we investigated the correlation between the PANAS and the three factors of plant cultivation experience level, the four factors of the PRS, satisfaction and loyalty. The three factors of plant cultivation experience level, the four factors of the PRS, satisfaction and loyalty showed a positive correlation with positive emotions and were inversely correlated with negative emotions significantly. Multiple regression analysis with dummy variables was conducted to examine the effects of plant cultivation activity level, attention restoration, and the PANAS on healing garden visitors' satisfaction and loyalty. As a result, among the four factors of the PRS, fascination and positive affectivity were significant variables that affect healing garden visitors' satisfaction and loyalty. Conclusion: The results indicated that the higher the attention restoration of visitors due to the fascination of the healing garden and the higher their positive affectivity and the more they have plant-related memories, the higher their impact on healing garden visitors' satisfaction and loyalty. Therefore, fascinating natural environments or greenery landscapes like healing gardens where people can contact plants would reduce negative emotions such as anger and sadness but to increase positive emotions such as pleasure, joy and satisfaction.

병원근로자의 조직시민행동과 조직효과성 관계 연구 (The Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Organizational Effectiveness of Hospital Employees)

  • Background: The organizational citizenship behavior is generally known as the important factor relevant to the organizational effectiveness. This research examined the mediating effect of the organizational citizenship behavior of hospital employees on the organizational effectiveness. Methods: Data were collected from 1,112 employees located in city of Seoul, Kyunggi and Chungnam province through self-administered questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS ver. 20.0, frequency analysis, t-test, analysis of variance, regression analysis, and path analysis. The main findings of the study are as follows. Results: First, it was found that many characteristics variables of personality, job, and relationship together affected organizational citizenship behavior of hospital employees. Especially, the following variables of negative affectivity, desire for growth, job value, job significance, and job security were found to have significant effect on the organizational citizenship behavior of hospital employees. Second, the results of path analysis showed that, through the mediating effect of organizational citizenship behavior, personality variables of positive and negative affectivity, and desire for growth, job characteristics variables of job value, job significance, and job security, and relationship variables of organizational support and task interdependence, had significant total effects on the level of job satisfaction of hospital employees. Conclusion: As a result, the organizational citizenship behavior seems to have both direct and indirect effects on the organizational effectiveness of hospital employees. Based on above findings, some theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

노인의료복지시설 근무자들의 이직의도 결정요인 (Determinants of Intent to Leave among Workers at Long-Term Care Institutions)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of intent to leave among workers at long-term care institutions in South Korea. The model represents a revision of the Price(2001) model which extends previous research by providing a comprehensive review of the economic, psychological, sociological literature. This study also examined the moderating effects of values toward independent variables on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The sample used in this study consisted of 400 workers from 9 long-term care hospitals and facilities nationwide. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires and analysed using multiple regression analysis and path analysis. The main results of the study were as follows. The variance of job satisfaction and organizational commitment explained by the independent variables used in the study are 74.5% and 76.3% respectively. The results of this study revealed that the following variables have significant negative effects on intent to leave among workers; organizational commitment, job satisfaction, positive affectivity, supervisor support, job significance, job security, job growth. And the following variables have significant positive effects on intent to leave among workers; job opportunity, negative affectivity. This result is same when the moderating role of values were considered in the analysis. Among demographic variables, only age was found to have a significant positive effect on the intent to leave among workers.

서비스실패의 허용영역과 심각성 지각에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Factors Affecting the Service Failure ZOT and severity Perception)

  • 본 연구에서는 서비스 실패 상황에서 서비스 자체의 요인, 소비자의 내적 요인, 주위 상황 등의 외적 요인으로 나누어 소비자가 지각하는 서비스 실패의 정도에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 밝히고 그에 따른 소비자의 서비스 실패 상황에 대한 불평 행동과 이탈 행동에 관한 연구를 진행하였다. 가설 검증 결과, 과거 경험의 만족도, 기입이미지, 서비스 중요도는 서비스 실패에 대한 허용 영역에 부(-)의 영향을 미쳤다. 서비스 중요도는 지각된 서비스 실패의 심각성에는 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 서비스 실패에 대한 허용 영역은 지각된 서비스 실패의 심각성에 부(-)의 영향을 미쳤다. 따라서 가설 1, 가설 2, 가설 3, 가설 4, 가설 5는 지지되었다. 반면, 사회비교에 대한 의식 수준은 지각된 서비스 실패의 심각성에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 부정적 감정 성향 또한 지각된 서비스 실패의 심각성에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 가설 6, 가설7은 기각되었다. 본 연구는 서비스산업의 연구자 및 제공자들에게 다음과 같은 시사점을 제공할 수 있다. 연구결과를 통해서 서비스 실패 및 회복 프레임워크를 개발에 도움을 줄 수 있으며, 특히 서비스 제공자에게 서비스 실패를 회복하기 위한 특정 가이드라인 제공을 통해서 서비스 회복 전략에 효과적인 심각성 포인트를 제시하였다.

고령운전자의 접근/회피동기와 삶의 만족 사이의 관계: 이동성과 정서성의 매개효과 (The Relationship Between Older Drivers' BIS/BAS and Life Satisfaction: Mediating Effects of Mobility and Affectivity)

  • 고령운전자의 이동성과 삶의 만족 사이의 정적관계는 잘 알려져 있다(e. g., Collins, 2008). 그러나 본 연구에서는 이러한 관련성이 고령운전자의 동기, 이동성 속성 및 정서성에 따라 달라질 수 있음을 제시하고자 한다. 구체적으로 본 연구에서는 고령운전자의 접근/회피동기에 따라 이동성 속성이 달라질 수 있는지, 그리고 이동성 속성에 따른 삶의 만족 수준에서의 차이를 긍정/부정정서가 차별적으로 매개하는지 비교하였다. 132명의 만 65세 이상 고령운전자를 대상으로 접근/회피동기 척도(BIS/BAS, Carver & White, 1994), 이동성 척도(장혜란 등, 2009), 긍정/부정정서 척도(SPANAS, Diener et al., 2009) 및 삶의 만족 척도(SWLS, Diener et al., 1985)를 사용한 면대면 설문조사를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였고, 상관분석과 경로분석을 통해 수집된 자료 사이의 관련성을 검토하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고령운전자의 접근동기는 사회활동을 위한 운전량(Amount of Driving for Social Activity: 이하 'DSA')에 정적으로, 반면 회피동기는 물리적 운전량(Amount of Driving Measured by Distance and Time: 이하 'AD')에 부적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 특히 접근동기는 DSA를 매개로 긍정정서에 정적인 영향을 미친 반면 회피동기는 AD를 매개로한 정서와의 관련성이 관찰되지 않았다. 둘째, 긍정정서는 DSA와 삶의 만족 사이의 관계를 완전매개하는 효과를 보였으나 AD는 정서성과 삶의 만족 사이의 관계에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과들은 고령운전자의 운전 속성, 동기, 정서성 그리고 삶의 만족 사이의 상호관련성을 이해하는데 기초적인 자료로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

종합병원 약사의 이직의도 결정요인 (The Determinants of Intent to Leave of Hospital Pharmacists)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of intent to leave of hospital pharmacists. The independent variables contain three groups of determinants: environmental variables(job opportunity and external support), psychological variables(met expectations, growth desire, self-efficacy, and positive/negative affectivity) and structural variables (power, legitimacy, job variety, job significance, workload, physical environment, job security, pay, internal support, job growth, and promotional chances). The sample used in this study consists of 252 pharmacists working at hospitals in Seoul City, Inchon City and Kyunggi Province. Data were collected with self- administered questionnaires from Oct. 24 to Nov. 14 in 2001 and analyzed using path analysis. The results of this study indicate that the following variables, listed in order of size, have significant negative effects on intent to leave of hospital pharmacists; met expectations, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, promotional chances, and job variety. Job opportunity was found to have significant positive effect on the intent to leave of hospital pharmacists. Implications for hospital administrators and discussions for further research were suggested.

부정적 정서 유통에 따른 대인관계 문제의 영성효과: 트라우마를 중심으로 (Spirituality's Impact on Posttraumatic Interpersonal Relation Regarding the Distribution of Negative Affect)

  • Purpose - This paper aims to examine a spirituality's impact on the posttraumatic interpersonal relationships of family violence with a structural equation model(SEM). This article starts with the research idea that family violence experience bring about negative emotion in terms of interpersonal relationship leading to the distribution of negative affect in social relationship. The research question of this study pinpoints on how family violence experience affects interpersonal relationship problems and how spirituality affects interpersonal relations problems. Based on the idea, we attempts to deal with spirituality's impact as a driving factor of transforming the distribution of negative affect. Research design, data, and methodology - The structural equation modelling(SEM) is employed as a analysis method of this study. SEM provides a chiefly cross-sectional statistical modelling method, and moreover it allows multiple variables to be associated with a latent variable in this analysis. 300 samples from Seoul, Gyeonggy and Gangwon are selected in the survey. We chose available 271 among them. Results - The results verify that trauma have placed an negative impact on personal relations. The study results also shows that the more serious get the degree of family violence trauma, the worse become interpersonal relationship problems. What is more interesting is that the degree of trauma's impact on interpersonal relation problems in male is higher than that of trauma's impact in female. It is mainly attributed to the fact that women are superior to men in terms of empathy ability and interpersonal relationship orientation. It can be noted that the well-managed spirituality will be able to make a great contribution towards reducing the degree of trauma caused by interpersonal relationships. Conclusions - The study results demonstrates that family violence have negative impacts on spirituality, while spirituality have an positive impacts on reduction the problems of interpersonal relationship. It has been found out that family violence trauma may cause negative affectivity in personal relations, which can distribute negative impacts regarding interpersonal relationship in society. This study also supports that spirituality will be able to function well as a helper, which may reduce the distribution of negative affect in society.

메타상관분석을 이용한 병원간호사의 직무만족에 관련요인 (Factors associated with Job Satisfaction among Hospital Nurses: A Meta-correlation Analysis)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the research trends concerning job satisfaction among hospital nurses. Methods: Articles published between 2008 to 2018 were searched. In the first search, 10,859 articles were extracted from academic databases, and 168 were included. Results: A total of 36 variables were explored regarding job satisfaction. Among the major variables, organizational commitmentandculture and justice had positive correlations withjobsatisfaction. In contrast, burnout, negative affectivity, and turnover intention had negative correlations with it. In the meta-analysis, according to the conceptual framework, salary and promotions showed significant positive correlations with job satisfaction. In contrast, professionaldevelopment showed a significantly negative correlation with it. Conclusion: Strategies to improve the variables corresponding to motivation factors are required to improve job satisfaction among hospital nurses. Furthermore, efforts to improve the nursing work environment corresponding to hygiene factors are also required for efficiency and rational management at the hospital level.
