  • A modified watershed transform is proposed which is context-free marker-controlled and minima imposition-free to reduce the over-segmentation and to speedup the transform. In contrast to the conventional methods in which a priori knowledge, such as flat zones, zones of homogeneous texture, and morphological distance, is required for marker extraction, context-free marker extraction is proposed by using the attention operator based on the GST (generalized symmetry transform). By using the context-free marker, the proposed watershed transform exploit marker-constrained labeling to speedup the computation and to reduce the over-segmentation by eliminating the unnecessary geodesic reconstruction such as the minima imposition and thereby eliminating the necessity of the post-processing of region merging. The simulation results show that the proposed method can extract context-free markers inside the objects from the complex background that includes multiple objects and efficiently reduces over-segmentation and computation time.

  • Recently, interest in the necessity and practical application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) is also increasing in the civil engineering field. However, there are difficulties in building BIM models and utilizing BIM modeling in the civil engineering field due to various reasons. To this end, it is necessary to develop management tools and research on management methods that can effectively utilize the BIM library in the civil engineering field. Libraries in the civil engineering field are complementary to each other, so library management in consideration of library management in various combinations and continuous updates is important. BIM library management was proposed through the development of a management tool that reflects these characteristics, which is expected to contribute to improving productivity in the field of civil design.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest policy implications on the R&D planning scope to acquire highly technology quality level and to show the necessity of differentiated strategy by each technology fields in organic agriculture field. To achieve this, we analyzed the determinants of excellent R&D performance using the patent bibliography information analysis based on the count data models. Through empirical analysis, we find out that the determinants are different from each technology field, and show that these determinants should be included in the scope of R&D planning.

  • Various minimally invasive repair techniques have been performed for acute Achilles tendon rupture. Despite this, it is difficult to use these techniques in common practice because of the necessity of special instruments. We propose a novel minimal invasive technique using sponge holding forceps, which are commonly used in the operating room for the acute Achilles tendon rupture.

  • This paper presents a indirect vector control system for induction motors using an adaptive fuzzy logic(AFL) speed estimator. The proposed speed estimator is based on the MRAS(Mode Referece Adaptive System) scheme. In general, the MRAS speed estimation approaches are more simple than any other strategies. However, there are some difficulties in the scheme, which are strong sensitivity to the motor parameters variations and necessity to detune the estimator gains caused by different speed area. In this paper, the AFL speed estimator is proposed to solve the problems. The structure of the proposed AFL is very simple. The input of the AFL is the rotor flux error difference between reference and adjustable model, and the output is the estimated incremental rotor speed. Moreover, the back propagation algorithm is combined to adjust the parameters of the fuzzy logic to the most appropriate values during the operating the system. Finally, the validity of the ...

  • The purpose of intra-operative neurological monitoring (INM) is to minimize surgically induced nerve damage, sensory nerves and motor neurons without affecting the operations to proceed during surgery such as evoked potentials (EP), electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), transcranial doppler (TCD), etc. During the course of checking a patient's condition, surveillance of ambulatory patients is a very different thing to check if the test is done under general anesthesia. INM can be possible or impossible depending on the type of drugs used and their concentrations because the monitoring is performed under anesthesia. Therefore, it is emphasized on the necessity of reviewing anesthesia which influences on INM.

  • Striking in change that present our country is much by electricity industry reform and the Korea Electric Power Corporation is deciding power distribution system reliability indices every year but power distribution system for reliability evaluation and establishment of investment program are consisting punily. If consider efficient inflection of resources and hereafter power distribution division that is limited for target achievement of schedule level service evaluation and reliability side in operation of the power distribution system, can expect efficient practical use of the power distribution property if gains in electrical side about these change and most suitable investment way consist because there is necessity of electric power plan establishment of area electric power distribution place of business unit. This paper consider proper reliability level and maximum effect through quantitative analysis to gain electrical gains of the power distribution system in reliability side depending on trend DB(Data Base) of data of electric power system composition appliance in this treatise and apply data administration and reliability rate analysis that serve to decide most suitable investment precedence to supply of electric power property to power distribution system present investment algorithm.

  • The structure and dynamics of Korean red pine stands established in the riparian zone were studied in the Tsang stream in Mt. Seorak National Park, in east-central Korea. Pine stands were classified into four successional stages, the initial, establishing, competitive, and stabilizing stages, based on the age distribution of a dominant tree, Pinus densiflora, the vegetation stratification, and the microtopography of the riverine environment. The stages usually corresponded to disturbance frequencies, depending on the horizontal and vertical distances from the watercourse. Stands of the initial and establishing stages lacked tree or subtree layers, or both. As stands progressed through the developmental stages, soil particle size became finer and moisture retention capacity was improved. The stand ordination reflected the developmental stage, and the species ordination differentiated species specializing in relatively dry and wet habitats. The results of the analysis of vegetation dynamics provided ecological information which will be useful for understanding the developmental processes of vegetation established in riparian zones. Species diversity indices usually increased across developmental stages, following the typical pattern for successional processes. We discuss the importance and necessity of riparian vegetation in Korea, where most riparian forests have disappeared due to excessive human land use.

  • To understand salinity status of fresh water and paddy soils and the susceptibility of rice to salinity stress of Gunnae reclaimed tidelands, salinity monitoring was conducted in rainy and dry seasons. For fresh water, a high salinity was observed at the sampling location near the sluice gate and decreased with distance from the gate. This spatial pattern of fresh water salinity indicates the necessity of spatial distribution of salinity in the assessment of salinity status of fresh water. Interestingly, there was significant correlation between rainfall amount and salinity, implying that salinity of fresh water varies with rainfall and thus it may be possible to predict salinity of water using rainfall. Soil salinity also higher near the gate, reflecting the influence of high saline water. In addition, the groundwater salinity also high to threat rice growth. Though soil salinity status indicated low possibility of sodium injury, there was changes in soil salinity status during the course of rice growth, suggesting that more intensive monitoring of soil salinity may be necessary for soil salinity assessment. Our study suggests the necessity of intensive salinity monitoring to understand the spatio-temporal variations of salinity of water and soil of reclaimed tideland areas.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of wearing lab coats on science-related attitudes of elementary school students in science learning. In addition, we analyzed the effects of wearing lab coats on perceptions of the authenticity of school science activities and the necessity of wearing lab coats. Samples of the study were composed of 4 classes of 92 fifth graders in Seoul, Korea. Unit of 'Temperature and Heat' was selected as a object of the research. The major results of the study are as follows. First, for the independent t-test of science-related attitudes, a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the comparative group was found. Second, 9 students (9.78%) were more than 1SD above the average of the difference between the results of pre and post. Seven of them were experimental group students and two were comparative group students. Third, there was a statistically significant difference between the comparison group and the experimental group as a result of the perception test of the similarity of the scientific activity of the elementary school students and the scientific activity of the scientists. Fourth, there was no statistically significant difference between the comparison group and the experimental group as a result of the perception test of the necessity of wearing a lab coat. Based on these findings of this study, implications for science education research and teaching and learning at school are discussed.
