Upper Bound Analysis for Near-net Shape Forging of a Crown Gear Form

  • A kinematically admissible velocity field for near-net shape forging of a crown gear form is proposed. This takes into account the profiled shape of the teeth chosen by approximating these kinematically as radially straight taper teeth, (rectangular and trapezoidal teeth). The upper bound to the forging load, the relative forging pressure and the deformed configurations, with both the initially solid circular cylindrical and hollow billets, are predicted using the velocity field at varying incremental punch movements considering differing frictional factors. These and other results are given and commented upon.

  • Loading/Unloading(L/UL) mechanism has been considered to be an alternative to contact start-stop(CSS) mechanism which eliminates stiction and wear associated with frequent start and stop process. It has other advantages including increased areal density due to lower flying height, reduced power consumption, and improved shock resistance. In order for L/UL to be Implemented in Near-field recording system properly, dynamics of optical flying head must be understood and optimized. In this paper the dynamic characteristics during loading process is analyzed numerically to investigate the effect of design parameters such as loading speed. slider shape, and initia conditions on the dynamic reponses of flying head..

  • A multiple charging method for a wireless power transfer system (WPTS) in the near-field region is proposed. We analyzed the frequency characteristics of multiple receivers in the near-field region. The results suggested that the time division WPTS can achieve efficient and equal power transmission at multiple receivers. We conclude that this system has an advantage for charging multiple receivers.

  • There are some concepts that could achieve Near-Field Recording (NPR). One of concepts is the use of the flying head with Solid Immersion Lens (SIL). The basic concept of this is almost same with that of Hard Disk Drive (HDD). This study presents the flying characteristics of the slider for NFR. Numerical simulations are performed using FEM and Broydon-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS) method. Some modifications are considered to improve flying characteristics of the slider.

Potential of near infrared spectroscopy for non-destructive estimation of soluble solids in growing melons

  • Non-destructive determination of soluble solids(Brix) in harvested fruits using near infrared(hereafter, NIR) spectroscopy has been reported by many researchers. We have just reported on non-destructive estimation of Brix in harvested melons using a NIR Systems Model 6500 spectrophotometer(Ito et al., 2000). There is a melon cultivar that is difficult to judge the harvest time from the external appearance. If we can determine Brix in growing fruits non-destructively in the field, immature fruits will not be harvested. A portable m spectrophotometer for field use has been just developed by Kubota Corporation. The spectral data of growing melons were measured by the portable spectrophotometer. A commercial program was used for multiple linear regression analysis. Brix in growing melons could be estimated by a multiple regression equation calibrated with harvested melons. Absorbances of 906 and 874 nm were included as the independent variables in the multiple regression equation, and these wavelengths are key wavelengths for non-destructive Brix determination.

  • Systematic procedure of developing radionuclide release scenarios was established based on FEP list and Interaction Matrix for near-surface LILW repository. FEPs were screened by experts'review in terms of domestic situation and combined into scenarios on the basis of Interaction Matrix analysis. Under the assumption of design scenario, The system domain was divided into three sections: Near-field, Far-field and Biosphere. Sub-scenarios for each section were developed, and then scenarios for entire system were built up with sub-scenarios of each section. Finally, sixteen design scenarios for near-surface repository were evaluated A reference scenario and other noteworthy scenarios were selected through experts'scenario screening.

해양에서 근거리효과를 이용한 수동 위치추정 오차분석 (Error Analysis of the Passive Localization Using Near-field Effect in the Sea)

  • 본 논문에서는 근거리 효과를 이용하여 음원의 위치를 추정하는 탐지 기법을 해양환경에 적용할 경우에 발생할 수 있는 위치추정 오차에 관하여 분석하였다. 삼각 (triangulation) 알고리듬과 파면곡률 (wavefront curvature) 알고리듬 등을 이용하는 근거리 탐지 기법은 음파가 2차원 평면 (방위, 거리)에서 전달된다고 가정한다. 그러나 해양환경은 2차원 평면이 아닌 3차원 공간 (방위, 거리, 수심)이므로 음파전달에 따른 오차가 발생할 수 있다. 3차원 공간을 가정한 경우에도 해양에서의 다중경로 음파전달을 고려하지 않았다면 역시 오차가 발생하게 될것이다. 근거리 탐지 기법의 위치추정 오차를 분석하기 위하여 다중경로 음파전달모델과 파면곡률을 이용한 초점 빔형성 (focused beamforming)기법을 이용하여 시뮬레이션하였다. 분석결과 수중음속구조, 해저면 수심, 해저면 경사와 음원의 거리 등에 따라 위치추정 오차가 달라짐을 볼 수 있었다.

광섬유 탐침의 반사를 이용한 파면 분석 근접장 주사 광간섭계 (Near field scanning optical interferometer using facet reflection of a tapered optical fiber)

  • 광섬유 탐침의 끝 단에서 반사하는 광을 이용하는 근접장 주사 광간섭계를 제안하고 제안한 근접장 주사 광간섭계를 이용하여 초점의 위치와 집광 초점면에서의 파면을 분석하였다. 파면의 분석은 광섬유 탐침의 끝 단에서 반사된 빛과 시료표면에서 반사된 빛을 간섭시키고, 탐침의 끝 단을 λ/4씩 위상천이 시키면서 4장의 간섭무늬를 얻은 후, 위상천이 알고리즘을 통하여 광학 수차를 구하는 방법을 이용하였다. 실험 결과 근접 주사시의 초점의 위치를 파장의 3분의 1 이하로 제어할 수 있음을 알 수 있었으며, 제안한 근접장 주사 광간섭계를 이용하여 구한 집광 초점면에서의 파면 수차 값이 트와이만-그린 간섭계를 이용하여 구한 파면 수차값과 잘 일치함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Coupled thermo-hydraulic-mechanical (THM) processes are essential for the long-term performance of deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste. In this study, a numerical sensitivity analysis was performed to analyze the effect of rock properties on THM responses after the execution of the heater test at the Kamaishi mine in Japan. The TOUGH-FLAC simulator was applied for the numerical simulation assuming a continuum model for coupled THM analysis. The rock properties included in the sensitivity study were the Young's modulus, permeability, thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion coefficients of crystalline rock, rock salt, and clay. The responses, i.e., temperature, water content, displacement, and stress, were measured at monitoring points in the buffer and near-field rock mass during the simulations. The thermal conductivity had an overarching impact on THM responses. The influence of Young's modulus was evident in the mechanical behavior, whereas that of permeability was noticed through the change in the temperature and water content. The difference in the THM responses of the three rock type models implies the importance of the appropriate characterization of rock mass properties with regard to the performance assessment of the deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste.

DVD 드라이브내에서 발생하는 유동소음에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Characteristic of Aeroacoustic Noise in DVD Drive)

  • This paper focuses on the numerical prediction of airflow-induced sound in DVD drives. As a first step, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is conducted to evaluate flow field characteristics due to the high-speed disk rotation, and to support the acoustic analysis. Acoustic analogy based on Ffowcs Wi1liams-Hawkings (FW-H) equation is adopted to predict aeroacoustic noise patterns. The integral solution for quadrupole volume source is included to identify the turbulence noise generated inside the DVD tray. The strength of sound pressure revel with respect to rotating speed is discussed to meet upfront demand on the high fidelity product development. The present study also focuses on the noise directivity and examines how much the sound noise is sensitive to change in rotating speed. Near-field noise is strongly affected by the flow field characteristic, which is caused by the complex shape of the tray. For a mid-field, the quadrupole noise play as a counterpart of thickness noise or loading noise, so it generates different sound noise Patterns compared with those in the near field.
