Near-field source localization algorithms are very sensitive to sensor gain/phase response errors, and so it is important to calibrate the errors. We took into consideration the uniform linear array and are proposing a blind calibration algorithm that can estimate the directions-of-arrival and range parameters of incident signals and sensor gain/phase responses jointly, without the need for any reference source. They are estimated separately by using an iterative approach, but without the need for good initial guesses. The ambiguities in the estimations of 2-D electric angles and sensor gain/phase responses are also analyzed in this paper. We show that the ambiguities can be remedied by assuming that two sensor phase responses of the array have been previously calibrated. The behavior of the proposed method is illustrated through simulation experiments. The simulation results show that the convergent rate is fast and that the convergent precision is high.

In this paper, we described about methods and results to verify the Tx/Rx beam characteristics of a planar active phased array antenna as using a near-field measurement. The near-field system can effectively measure multiple beams and predict the performance degradation due to the partial failure of individual elements. Also, it can accurately predict the EIRP relating to detection performance of the active phased array radar. We briefly described the near-field measurement method to verify the Tx/Rx beam characteristics, and then verified the effectiveness of measurement method by analyzing the measured results.

A Ka-band microstrip array antenna for wide-range detection of moving targets is analyzed through a photonicassisted reactive-near-field characterization technique. The antenna array employs a 3-dB-tapered feed network to suppress the sidelobe level while retaining a wide azimuth beamwidth for a wide detection range. The relative nearelectric field patterns of the array and its 3-dB-tapered feed lines have been measured using an electro-optic fieldmapping technique for minimally invasive millimeter-wave sensing. A number of typical limitations on the technique, involving bandwidth, low signal-modulation depth, and high laser-induced noise in high-frequency applications, have been overcome by suppressing the carrier portion of the optical interrogation beam.
An array based, outward monitoring, ultrasonic guided wave based SHM technique using a single transmitter and multiple receivers (STMR), with a small footprint is discussed here. The previous implementation of such SHM arrays used a phase-reconstruction algorithm (that is similar to the beam-steering algorithm) for the imaging of reflectors. These algorithms were found to have a limitation during the imaging of defects/reflectors that are present in the "near-field" of the array. Here, the "near-field" is defined to be approximately 3-4 times the diameter of the compact array. This limitation is caused by approximations in the beam-steering reconstruction algorithm. In this paper, a migration-based reconstruction algorithm, with dispersion correction in the frequency domain, is discussed. Simulation and experimental studies are used to demonstrate that this algorithm improves the reconstruction in the "near-field" without decreasing the ability to reconstruct defects in the "far-field" in both isotropic and anisotropic plates.
A computationally efficient algorithm is presented for 3-D near-field source localization using a uniform circular away (UCA). Algebraic relations are demonstrated between the incident angles (elevation angle and azimuth angle) under the far-field assumption and the actual near-field location (range. elevation angle, and azimuth angle). Using these relations as paths to follow to the peak of the 3-D MUSIC spectrum, the proposed algorithm replaces the 3-D search required in the conventional 3-D MUSIC with a 1-D path following after a 2-D initialization. thereby reducing the computational burden.
It is necessary to check the fault of phased array antenna, when the active phased array radar installed in the site is suspected performance degradation due to external impact or long-term operation. However, the near-field test should be performed in anechoic chamber in order to measure the phased array antenna, so that much time and cost must be applied for radar disassembly and transportation, and the operational availability of the radar system is deteriorates. Therefore, we propose a near-field scanner with mobility to check the fault of the phased array antenna at the site, and the effectiveness of the proposed scanner was verified with ${\pm}0.5dB$ magnitude and ${\pm}1.5^{\circ}$ phase in comparison with measured data in anechoic chamber.
In this paper, we address the problem of closely spaced source localization using sensor array processing. In particular, the performance efficiency (measured in terms of the root mean square error) of the unconditional maximum likelihood (UML) algorithm for estimating the direction of arrival (DOA) of near-field sources is evaluated. Four parameters are considered in this evaluation: angular separation among sources, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), number of snapshots, and number of sources (multiple sources). Simulations are conducted to illustrate the UML performance to compute the DOA of sources in the near-field. Finally, results are also presented that compare the performance of the UML DOA estimator with the existing multiple signal classification approach. The results show the capability of the UML estimator for estimating the DOA when the angular separation is taken into account as a critical parameter. These results are consistent in both low SNR and multiple-source scenarios.
Using symplectic relation and reaction concept, we propose a planar near-field antenna measurement method. A generalized probe compensation equation is deduced to obtain the probe correction formulation. To verify our approach, a reflector antenna with $1{\times}2$ horn array is fabricated and measured in the near-field measurement facility. The near-field measurement results are compared with the physical optics (PO) simulation. The results of measurement and simulation agree very well near to the mainbeam.

In this paper, the method is proposed that the equivalent result can be obtained by compensating the variation of gain and phase in the comparison with the result of near-field measurement which is obtained in the steady state, although the gain and phase variation of rx-channels occurred in the near-field rx-measurement of digital active phased array antenna. The proposed concept has the time section for monitoring the state of the rx-channels through the calibration path in the measurement timeline, and is the method for compensating the variation of state. For validating the proposed method, the fabricated X-band digital active phased array antenna and the planar near-field measurement facility is utilized. The proposed method is validated in the comparison with the compensated pattern which the unstable state of rx-channels is calibrated and the reference pattern obtained under the steady state of the rx-channels.

A full digital receiving active phased array antenna generates final receiving beams by digital beam forming of received digital signals in element-level that makes difficult to use typical near-field measurement method. Thus in this paper, a modified near-field measurement method which is suitable for full digital receiving active phased array antenna is proposed. Also the measured results of receiving beam pattern and G/T using developed L-band full digital receiving active phased array antenna are shown for the verification of proposed method.
