  • Two microscopic particles irradiated by light field influence each other by the forces coursed by the dipole-dipole interaction. The interaction changes also the resonance frequencies of the particles. We show that the dipole forces between atoms, molecules or dielectric particles irradiated by laser light play an important role at distances between the particles about or less the light wavelength. We discuss the properties of the near-field forces, including their dependence on direction and polarization of the laser light. We conclude that the near-field forces can be responsible for farmation of dimers in dense atomic gases. The near-field forces can be also used for control the motion of dielectric particles on micro and nanometer scale.

  • Super-resolution near-field structure (super-RENS) technology and solid immersion lens (SIL) based near-field (NF) technology have been expected as promising approaches to increase data capacity or areal density of optical disc. Super-RENS technology has been studied until now using mainly numerical aperture (NA) of 0.85 far-field optical system and possibility of tangential data density increment have been presented. NF technology has been studied with NA over 1 and presented demonstration of removable performance. To achieve much higher density, approach to increase NA of super-RENS by NF technology (Near-Field Super-Resolution, NFSR) can be a candidate and we think this technology would be advantageous compared to wavelength reduction or much higher NA increment of NF technology or much smaller effective optical spot size reduction of far-field super-resolution technology. In this paper we present readout result of ROM media having monotone pits using NF optical system with wavelength of 405nm and NA of 1.84 surface type SIL. GeSbTe material was used for super resolution active layer and pit length is 37.5nm which is shorter than resolution limit 55nm. We present the feasibility of NFSR technology by confirming the CNR threshold according to readout power (Pr) and CNR 33dB over threshold Pr.

  • A 3-D particle tracking model with normalized characteristic equations has been developed to predict the variation of near-field mixing characteristics and the far-field transport of the effluent plumes discharged from sea outfalls. The model was applied to the case study on the Masan sea outfall plumes discharged through a submerged multiport-diffuser. Numerical simulations of the effluent transport for 15 days which cover neap and spring tidal cycles in Masan Bay were conducted using fall velocities of the solid wastes and the initial plume characteristics obtained from normalized near-field characteristic equations. The results showed that time variations in near-field minimum dilutions with tidal ambient flow conditions are about $45{\sim}49$. Most of the heavy particles in the effluent plumes were settled and deposited in the vicinity of the outfalls immediately, and the finer particles were transported eastwards 3 km away from the outfalls for 15 days. A similar depositional trend of contaminated sediment was also found during a recent field survey.

  • The use of passive energy dissipation devices has been widely used in the construction industry to minimize the probability of damage occurred under intense ground motion. In this study, collapse margin ratio (CMR) and fragility curves are the main parameters in the assessment to characterize the collapse safety of the structures. The assessment is done on three types of RC frame structures, incorporating three types of dampers, viscoelastic, friction, and BRB dampers. The Incremental dynamic analyses (IDA) were performed by simulating an array of 20 strong ground motion (SGM) records considering both far-field and near-field seismic scenarios that were followed by fragility curves. With respect to far-field ground motion records, the CMR values of the selected frames indicate to be higher and reachable to safety margin more than those under near-field ground motion records that introduce a high devastating impact on the structures compared to far-field excitations. This implies that the near field impact affects the ground movements at the site by attenuation the direction and causing high-frequency filtration. Besides that, the results show that the viscoelastic damper gives better performance for the structures in terms of reducing the damages compared to the other energy dissipation devices during earthquakes.

  • In the suburbs near the capital area in Korea, many apartment house complexes are dotted that encircled by field. These apartment house complexes encircled by field, have not park and are abutting on the field, unlike large scale new town. This study is aimed to clear the characteristic of field around these apartment house complexes, consists in development the suburbs near the capital area. As a method of study we conducted greenery evaluation from view of Inhabitant by questionnaire survey. We concluded as follows: inhabitants attach importance to the nature around apartment house complex when move into that; inhabitants are satisfied and feel nature about the field; inhabitants tend to take field as a sight; inhabitants need low-rise development for harmony with field.

  • In this study, we have investigated the correlation of far-field detection sensitivity of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors with optical signatures associated with the near-field overlap of biomolecules. The results confirm a direct relation between the far-field and near-field parameters, particularly for optical signatures defined in terms of lateral electric field components that are tangential to the interface and thus continuous across the interface. The overall correlation between near-field optical signatures and far-field resonance shift exceeded 97%. The results can be highly useful to evaluate detection sensitivity of SPR biosensors that take advantage of complex structures for localization of surface waves.

  • In this paper, we proposed the grating parallel plate waveguide structure for converting a linearly polarized wave to a circularly polarized wave. For the design of the polarizer, the moment method and Floquet's theorem are applied under two assumptions that the incident wave is a plane wave and the structure is infinitely periodic. In order for the more precise design, we performed the near-field analysis for the finite polarizer structure using MATLAB. By comparing with the measured results obtained by the near-field arrangement, we verified the correctness of our near-field analysis. By taking the ideal assumptions considered in the initial design procedure into account, newly designed modified dimensions for the polarizer was suggested which give improved performance.

  • Recently, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) becomes very important, which demands the measurement of EMI (electromagnetic interference) in the chip level. NFS (near-field scanning) systems defined in IEC 61967 and IEC 62508 are typical methods to analyze EMI in the chip level. As chips becomes faster, frequency measurement of NFS system should become wideband, but it degrades SNR (singal-to-noise ratio) of the NFP (near-field probe). This paper surveys SNR enhancement technologies of the NFS while maintaining wideband characteristics.

  • Combination of magnetic recording technology and optical recording technology such as Near Field Optical Recording is watched recently. In order to accomplish this technology, the development of an electromagnetic driven mm-sized mirror shifting laser beam in track direction have to needed. In Near Field Optical Recording System, shifting laser beam in track direction mean as fine tracking and means as coarse tracking. Therefore in Near Field Optical Recording, 2-stage actuator is composed of servo controller in reading or recording information on disc layer. In our research, through design and simulation process of driven mm-sized mirror, we arrange systematically design process of driven mm-sized mirror having good frequency transfer characteristics. Design and simulation processes included modal analysis of spring, calculation of magnetic moment according to the number of turns and geometric configuration of coil and magnetic circuit analysis meaning that calculation of magnetic flux density in air gap of magnetic circuit. After that we design and make parts of driven mm-sized mirror, assemble and evaluate our electriomagnetic driven mm-sized mirror. we compared design values with actual characteristic values and present solution scheme. Through these processes we performed manufacturing of an electromagnetic driven mm-sized mirror having good frequency-domain characteristics and high sensitivity characteristics.

  • In the information storage development, the trend of the storage device is to increase the recording density. Among such an effort, near-field probe recording is spotlighted as a method of high increasing recording density. For the successfully embodiment of storage device, the actuating mechanism of near-field probe is essentially designed. In this paper, we suggest the slider similar with conventional HDDs and design the slider using near- field probe for the purpose of applying the slider in order to control gap between probe and media. The most important object of slider design is to guarantee the flying ability and stability. For achievement of these design objects, we perform two step of optimal design process. The media is mod! eled as random displacement, which is only considered roughness of disk surface. The design slider is analyzed with dynamic state in assumed media. At this process, the optimal model is confirmed to stable flying stability.
