  • 본 연구는 $1.3{\mu}m$ 파장의 초고속 Nd:YAG레이저 펄스를 얻기 위해 AOM을 이용하여 모드록킹 Nd:YAG레이저 공진기를 구성하였다. 여기용 반도체 레이저는 중심파장 810nm, 출력 1.2W이며, 레이저 매질은 직경 3mm, 길이 10mm로 $Nd^{3+}$가 1.0at%로 도핑된 Nd:YAG Rod를 사용하였다. 모드록킹에는 음향광학 변조기(변조 주파수 40MHz)를 사용하여 펄스폭 ${\tau}p=80ps$의 극초단 펄스를 얻었다.

Growth of Nd:YAG single crystal by czochralski method and characteristics of laser generation (Czochralski 방법에 의한 Nd : YAG 단결정의 육성 및 레이저 출력특성)

  • Nd:YAG single crystal widely used as solid state laser was grown by Czochralski method. <111> single crystal with 0.9at% of $Nd^{3+}$ was grown from the Czochralski furnace with a automatic diameter control system. The vertical temperature gradient in the liquid was the major factor that influence the crystal quality, and the crystal diameter was controlled by the home made computer program. The crystal boule with $\phi$50mm$\times$ι100mm effective size was cut, polished, and antireflection coated. The optical evaluation such as absorption spectrum, fluorescence spectrum coincide with typical features of Nd:YAG single crystal. The laser rod was assembled into the CW laser generator with a Kr lamp. The maximum CW laser output was 70 W and the threshold power and efficiency was 1.3kW and 1.64% respectively.

The Q-switched $1.3\mum$ Nd:YAG laser using sautrable absorber Nd:LSB (포화흡수체 Nd:LSB를 이용한 $1.3\mum$ Q-스위칭 Nd:YAG 레이저)

  • In this paper, it's shown that the saturable absorber Nd:LSB has a capability as a saturable absorber in Q-switching system. In the passively Q-switched 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ Nd:YAG laser with saturable absorber, we theoretically investigated the optimized output mirror, peak power, output power, pulse width and output efficiency. The passively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with saturable absorber Nd:LSB gives peak power of 30MW and pulse width of 6.23 ps at 30cm resonator length and output mirror reflectivity 98%. Consequently the output energies are 143, 200 and 209 $\mu$J at loss of 2.2%, 2.1% and 1.5%, respectively.

  • Passively Q-switched, laser diode(LD) end-pumped Nd:YAG laser was demonstrated by using $Cr^{4+}$:YAG as a saturable absorber. In addition , we could calculate an excitation efficiency, which is an important parameter to evaluate the pumping geometry, directly by measuring the absorbed power in Nd:YAG at threshold condition. We found that output parameters such as average power, pulse duration, and repetition rate strongly depended on the low intensity transmission of $Cr^{4+}$:YAG and driving current of lase diode. The maximum Q-switched output power of 1 W was obtained with 40 kHz repetition rate. The pulse duration was varied from 50 ns to 200 ns.

  • Intracavity frequency doubling of a single-mode Nd:YAG laser by using a nonplanar ring cavity is demonstrated. The nonplanar ring cavity consists of a Brewster-angled Nd:YAG crystal placed in a magnetic field, a KTP crystal, and two spherical mirrors. In this design the Nd:YAG block acts as both a nonreciprocal polarization rotator and a partial polarizer, and the nonplanar portion of the ring cavity, which is formed by a relative twist angle between the Brewster-angled end surfaces of the Nd:YAG block, serves as a reciprocal polarization rotator. An eigenpolarization theory for the cavity configuration is presented and suitable values of the relative twist angle for unidirectional operation are estimated. A single-mode output power of 22 ㎽ at 532 nm and an optical to optical conversion efficiency of 1.8% are obtained with a 1.2 W diode laser at 809 nm.

  • Nd:YAG pulse laser welding of stainless steel plate was simulated to find welding condition by using commercial finite element code MARC. Due to geometric symmetry, a half model of AISI 304 stainless steel plate was considered and user subroutines were applied to boundary condition for the heat transfer. Material properties such as conductivity, specific heat, mass density and latent heat were given as a function of temperature. As results, Three dimensional heat source model for pulse laser beam conditions of butt welding has been designed by the comparison between the finite element analysis results and experimental data on AISI 304 stainless steel plate. Nd:YAG laser welding for AISI 304 stainless steel was successfully simulated and it should be useful to determine optimal welding condition.

  • Welding characteristics of austienite 304 stainless steel and SM45C using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. Laser beam welding is increasingly being used in welding of structural steels. The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. This paper describes the weld ability of SM45C carbon steel and austienite 304 stainless steel for machine structural use by Nd:YAG laser.

  • In this study, we have investigated the micromachining of PZT to fabricate interdigitated electrodes of electro active material actuator using Nd:YAG laser We have observed groove shapes of PZT with changing beam power, scanning speed, gas, and so on to find optimum conditions of the laser processing for PZT grooves. As a result, this method has been applied to the laser micromachining for grooves in PZT surface, and we could have optimum parameters of Nd:YAG laser Finally it was shown that the laser micromachining of PZT can substitute fer bonding, etching and deposition processes in fabricating electro active material actuator embedded with interdigitated electrodes.

Development of Surgical Two-wavelegth Nd:YAG Laser (수술용 2파장 펄스형 Nd:YAG 레이저 개발)

  • The development of a compact two-wavelength Nd:YAG laser for dental and ENT applications is presented. The Nd:YAG resonator generates either 1.06$\mu$m or 1.32$\mu$m. The wavelength selection is made at the control panel. The Nd:YAG laser parameters at 1.06$\mu$m are ; the maximum pulse duration of 150$\mu$s, repetition rates of I-100Hz, and the maximum average power of 25W. At 1.32$\mu$m, the pulse duration is the same where the repetition rates and the maximum average power are I-30Hz and lOW respectively. High voltage power supply consists of a simmer module and two identical high voltage DC converters. In order to make a complete medical laser system, an optical fiber delivery unit, foot pedal and water spray handpiece are also developed. The wavelength selection is reliable since no movement of optical or mechanical components is required. The high voltage power supply is compact, easy to be maintained and applicable for other laser systems due to its modular design.

  • We numerically investigate the characteristic of single Nd:YAG rod laser with the convex-plane resonator configuration in order to get the best condition for high efficient intra-cavity second harmonic generation(SHG). The beam quality is analyzed with ABCD matrixes including the thermal lensing characteristic of Nd:YAG rod. The analysis is focused on stability, M2, beam waist and mode-volume of laser beam inside the resonator. The best conditions for SHG is obtained when a laser rod is set near the curved laser mirror.
