In this study, we conducted a numerical simulation using Navier-Stokes Solver (HYMO-WASS-3D) in order to analyze wave attenuation under wave-current interaction found in existing hydraulic experiments. It showed that wave energy and wave height are reduced as the wave propagates in coexisting fields between waves and currents. And the wave attenuation became more serious as the velocity of current and thus turbulence intensity were increased at wave-current coexisting field. As well, the wave attenuation became more serious with lower wave height and shorter period when the wave propagates the same distance under interactions between waves and currents.
Cavitation causes a great deal of noise, damage to components, vibrations, and a loss of efficiency in devices, such as propellers, pump impellers, nozzles, injectors, torpedoes, etc., Thus, cavitating flow simulation is of practical importance for many engineering systems. In this study, a two-phase flow solver based on the homogeneous mixture model has been developed. The flow characteristics around an axisymmetric cylinder were calculated and then validated by comparing with the experimental results in the cavitation water tunnel at the Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute. The results show that this solver is highly suitable for simulating the cavitating flows. After the code validation, the cavity length with changes of water depth, angle of attack and velocity were obtained.. Cavitation inception was also calculated for various operational conditions.
For rarefied gas flow regimes, physical phenomena such as velocity slip and temperature jump occur on the solid body surface. To predict these phenomena accurately, either the Navier-Stokes solver with a slip boundary condition or the direct simulation Monte Carlo method should be used. In the present study, flow simulations of a wedge were conducted in Mach-10 flow of argon gas for several different flow regimes using a two-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver with the Maxwell slip boundary condition. The results of the simulations were compared with those of the direct simulation Monte Carlo method to assess the present method. It was found that the values of the velocity slip and the temperature jump predicted increase as the Knudsen number increases. Also, the results are comparatively reasonable up to the Knudsen number of 0.05.

The artificial compressibility (AC) method for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the generalized curvilinear coordinates using the primitive form is implemented. The main advantage of the AC approach is that the resulting system of equations resembles the system of compressible N-S equations and can thus be integrated in time using standard, well-established time-marching methods. The errors, which are the odd-even oscillation, for pressure field in using the artificial compressibility can be eliminated by using the $4^{th}$ order artificial dissipation term which is explicitly included. Even though this paper focuses exclusively on 2D laminar flows to validate and assess the performance of this solver, this numerical method is general enough so that it can be readily extended to carry out 3D URANS simulation of engineering flows. This algorithm yields practically identical velocity profiles and primary vortex and secondary vortices that are in excellent overall agreement with the results of the vorticity-stream function formulation (Ghia et al., 1982). However, the grid resolution have to be required to be large enough to express the various vortices.
This paper presents incompressible Navier-Stokes solution algorithm for 2D Free-surface flow problems on the Cartesian mesh, which was implemented to run on Graphics Processing Units(GPU). The INS solver utilizes the variable arrangement on the Cartesian mesh, Finite Volume discretization along Constrained Interpolation Profile-Conservative Semi-Lagrangian(CIP-CSL). Solution procedure of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for free-surface flow takes considerable amount of computation time and memory space even in modern multi-core computing architecture based on Central Processing Units(CPUs). By the recent development of computer architecture technology, Graphics Processing Unit(GPU)'s scientific computing performance outperforms that of CPU's. This paper focus on the utilization of GPU's high performance computing capability, and presents an efficient solution algorithm for free surface flow simulation. The performance of the GPU implementations with double precision accuracy is compared to that of the CPU code using an representative free-surface flow problem, namely. dam-break problem.
Cavitating flow is usually formed on the surface of a high speed underwater object. When a object moves near a free surface at very high speed, the cavity signature becomes one of the major factors to be overcome by sensors of military satellite. The present work was to study the free surface effect on the ventilated cavitation. The governing equations were Navier-Stokes equations based on a homogeneous mixture model. The multiphase flow solver used an implicit preconditioning method in the curvilinear coordinate system. The cavitation model used here was the one first presented by Merkle et al.(2006) and redeveloped by Park & Ha(2009). Computations considered the free surface effects were carried out with a NACA0012 hydrofoil and the corresponding results were compared with the experimental data to have a good agreement. Calculations were then performed considering the ventilated cavitation, including the effect of non-condensable gas under the free surface effects.

In the present study, to investigate flows around space launch vehicles at mid-high altitudes efficiently, a three-dimensional unstructured mesh Navier-Stokes solver employing a Maxwell slip boundary condition was developed. Validation of the present flow solver was made for a blunted cone-tip configuration by comparing the results with those of the DSMC simulation and experiment. It was found that the present flow solver works well by capturing the velocity slip and the temperature jump on the solid surface more efficiently than the DSMC simulation. Flow simulations of space launch vehicles were conducted by using the flow solver. Mach number of 6 at the mid-high altitude around 86km was considered, and the flow phenomena at the mid-high altitude was discussed.
The gridless (or meshfree) methods, such as MPS, SPH, FPM an so forth, are feasible and robust for the problems with moving boundary and/or complicated boundary shapes, because these methods do not need to generate a grid system. In this study, a gridless solver, which is based on the combination of moving least square interpolations on a cloud of points with point collocation for evaluating the derivatives of governing equations, is presented for two-dimensional unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes problem in the low Reynolds number. A MAC-type algorithm was adopted and the Poission equation for the pressure was solved successively in the moving least square sense. Some typical problems were solved by the presented solver for the validation and the results obtained were compared with analytic solutions and the numerical results by conventional CFD methods, such as a FVM.
An Euler solver is developed to predict accurate aerodynamic data such as lift coefficient, drag coefficient, and moment coefficient. The conservation law form of the compressible Euler equations are used in the generalized curvilinear coordinates system. The Euler solver uses a finite volume method and the second order Roe's flux difference splitting scheme with min-mod flux limiter to calculate the fluxes accurately. An implicit scheme which includes the boundary conditions is implemented to accelerate the convergence rate. The multi-block grid is integrated into the flow solver for complex geometry. The flowfields are analyzed around NACA 0012 airfoil in the cases of $M_{\infty}=0.75,\;\alpha=2.0\;and\;M_{\infty}=0.80,\;\alpha=1.25$. The numerical results are compared with other numerical results from the literature. The final goal of this research is to prepare a robust and an efficient Navier-Stokes solver eventually.
A parametric study has been accomplished to figure out the effects of elliptic cylinder thickness, angle of attack, and Reynolds number on the unsteady lift and drag forces exerted on the elliptic cylinder. A two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes flow solver is developed based on the SIMPLER method in the body-intrinsic coordinates system to analyze the unsteady viscous flow over elliptic cylinder. Thickness-to-chord ratios of 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 elliptic cylinders are simulated at different Reynolds numbers of 400 and 600, and angles of attack of $10^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;and\;30^{\circ}$. Through this study, it is observed that the elliptic cylinder thickness, angle of attack, and Reynolds number are very important parameters to decide the lift and drag forces. All these parameters also affect significantly the frequencies of the unsteady force oscillations.
