  • This study tried to search for solutions of present problems in architecture through interdisciplinary study which includes biology, literature, aesthetics, and psychology, and set up two models composed of the nature and the human perception which contemporary architecture has problems on. By nature-oriented approach through biology and romanticist literature, the five types of organic principles which could be obtained from structure and order in natural system and by human perception-oriented approach through aesthetic theory of Harold Osborne and perceptual and cognitive psychology the structure and order of perceptual arousal, perceptual balance, and perceptual order in human cognition based on perceptual appropriateness could be found. The unified and organic framework of architectural composition must be considered through a deductive and inductive study as this study was approached. The results of the present study can be applied to construct human-oriented design principles and factors in architectural space and form, and better environmental quality.

  • Since the microstructure of functional thin films depends on the dispersion characteristics of dense slurry, it is important to control the agglomerative nature of slurries under processing. The present authors have been discussing the model prediction of agglomerative nature and local rate of agglomeration in dense suspensions. The experiments have been peformed under shear flow using the nearly spherical and oblate type graphite particles. In this study, the experiment has been conducted using water and glycerol as dispersion media. Stress control type rheometer was used to measure the slurry rheology. Local agglomeration of graphite particles has been predicted by using Usui's model. The experimental results show that both the shape and slurry processing method affect on the local dispersion condition. The agglomeration formed by oblate type graphite particles seems to be more difficult to break up than that of spherical particles.

  • This study developed a model to evaluate the co-benefits and trade-off effects between biodiversity and carbon storage capacity based on the implementation locations of nature-based solutions. The model aims to propose optimal implementation locations by using the conceptual idea of edge effects for carbon storage and connectivity for biodiversity. The co-benefits were considered by simultaneously taking into account two effects rather than a single effect. Trade-off effects were observed among optimal plans through a comparison of benefits. The NSGA-II multi-objective optimization algorithm was utilized, confirming the identification of Pareto-optimal solutions. The implementation patterns of Pareto-optimal solutions for green areas were examined. This study holds significance in proposing optimal locations by evaluating various co-benefits and trade-off effects of nature-based solutions. By advancing models based on this evaluation framework, it is anticipated that the assessment of co-benefits and trade-off effects among various benefits of nature-based solutions, such as climate change mitigation, enhancement of biodiversity, and provision of ecosystem services, can be accomplished.

  • The traditional mixture of experts (ME) modeled the gate network using a certain parametric function. However, if the assumed parametric function does not properly reflect the true nature, the prediction strength of ME would become weak. For example, the parametric ME often uses logistic or multinomial logistic models for the network model. However, this could be very misleading if the true nature of the data is quite different from those models. Although, in this case, we may develop more flexible parametric models by extending the model at hand, we will never be free from such misspecification problems. In order to alleviate such weakness of the parametric ME, we propose to use the semi-parametric mixture of experts (SME) in which the gate network is estimated in a non-parametrical way. Based on this, we compared the performance of the SME with those of ME and neural networks via several simulation experiments and real data examples.

  • The Terra/MODIS data set over Yellow River Basin, China is generated for the purpose of an input parameter into the water resource management model, which has been developed in the Research Revolution 2002 (RR2002) project. This dataset is mainly utilized for the land cover classification and radiation budget analysis. In this paper, the outline of the dataset generation, and a simple land cover classification method, which will be developed to avoid the influence of cloud contamination and missing data, are introduced.

  • In this paper, we deal with three types of modelling method for the analysis of galloping in power transmission line (PTL). The single mass model is obtained under linearization method and it is applied into f-order model. On these models, the nature frequencies of PTL are obtained and it makes an effects on the galloping directly. In simulation, we verify that the maximum magnitude of nature frequency depends on the galloping distance of PTL. Also from the analysis of frequency response, a few of reduction method for galloping are introduced which is effected by distance of PTL, wind velocity and icing types.

  • A cultural landscape results from a combination of human activities for resource-use and the response of nature to such artificial interference. Nature provides resources necessary for human life on the Earth in terms of his survival as well as living. Humanbeing has developed civilization using the benefits that nature provides. In the past, a harmonious relationship between mankind and nature had ensured sustainability of resource-use for human. We can find such facts from the existence of cultural landscape. However, rapid economic growth and a development-oriented logic caused from such socio-economic change led to the environmental crises and the depletion of various resources at global level. In the perspective of preparation for such problems, we investigated the background for establishment, function, and value of cultural landscapes, in which a dynamic equilibrium exists between a supply of natural resources and human needs. Furthermore, we discussed a new economic model including ecological consideration, a strategy for ecological management of environment, and a framework for transmission of traditional culture to new generations on the basis of a cultural landscape regime.

  • The purpose of this paper is to test the applicability of the rural amenity values assessment model(RAVAM) to a case study area. To verify the practical applicabilities of the RAVAM, south-east area of Kyounggi province was selected as a study area. Full data of 101 Myuns of Kyounggi province were gathered with Geographic In-formation System(GIS) and Remote Sensing(RS) techniques. All the 101 Myuns' rural amenity resources were assessed. Cluster analysis was performed on almost intact nature, interaction between nature and man, man-made amenity values to classify rural amenity characteristics. It was expected that the proposed RAVAM could be used in developing rural development plans considering local rural amenity resources' distribution.

  • In this paper, we investigate how generators' ramp-rate constraints may influence their equilibrium strategy formulation. In the market model proposed in this study, the generators' ramp-rate constraints are explicitly represented. In order to fully characterize the inter-temporal nature of the ramp-rate constraints, a dynamic game model is presented. The subgame perfect Nash equilibrium is adopted as the solution of the game and the backward induction procedure for the solution of the game is designed in this paper. The inter-temporal nature of the ramp-rate constraints results in the Markov property of the game, and we have found that the Markov property of the game significantly simplifies the subgame perfect Nash equilibrium characterization. Finally, a simple electricity market numerical illustration is presented for the successful application of the approach proposed.

  • Belief revision involves integrating new information with the current belief. It is a ubiquitous human activity. A critical feature of belief revision lies in its sequential nature. Railroad system can be described as organic. Engine drivers take a great role in this system. Recently, Hogarth and Einhorn(1992) have Posited a belief-adjustment model for updating beliefs. Based on a sequential anchoring and adjustment strategy, the model is important fro decision makers. The sequential nature of information processing is affected by some task variables. This will be mainly explained in this paper. The purpose of this study is to examine the engine drivers' belief revision process and factors which influence on the belief revision process. The factors are the order and the experience. Thereby, this will contribute to the study of engine drivers' behavior. The result of this study is summarized as follows. The order effect due to the order of presentation of the evidence exist. The difference of belief revision is due to The experience level.
