  • This study was to find a patient's motive for receiving implant treatment by age and gender using a self-reporting questionnaire survey with adults(men & women) in Woolsan. The result was as follows: 1. As a result of questionnaire survey with 155 patients in total(86 men, 69 women), 24 of 86 men(27.9%) valued the natural mastication feature of dental implant most, that is as similar as natural teeth, while 18 of 69 women(26.1%) had the most priority over the longer life of implant than common dental prostheses. By age, those in their 20s and 30s had a preference to implant treatment because it does not need to pulling out teeth for prostheses, while those in their 40s and over had a priority to the natural mastication feature of implant that is similar as much as natural teeth. By dental treatment, all of respondents said that the natural mastication feature is the most important in getting dental implant. It was founded that whether one can taste food as it is or not is less important, regardless of age or gender. 2. The greatest obstacle to implant surgery was expensive medical fees, 88 of 155 respondents(56.8%), with a fear of surgery itself being the least obstacle. 3. 90.2% of the total respondents said that they will want to receive dental implant treatment if their economy allow.

  • Tannin treatment has been used for improving the color fastness of dyed materials. In natural dyeing, the tannin treatment is highly effective in improving the fastness. The chitosan treatment also improves the fastness and depth of shade in natural dyeing. In this study, the effects of tannin and chitosan pre-treatment on the color and fastness in loess dyeing were investigated. Cotton woven fabric specimens and cotton knit fabric specimens were pre-treated with chitosan solution in acetic acid, and the specimens were then treated with or without tannin. The specimens were finally dyed with loess. The tannin treatment decreased the K/S values, while the chitosan treatment increased the K/S. Both the tannin treatment and the chitosan treatment increased the wash fastness and light fastness. In tannin treatment, tannin component and Fe component of loess may react together to decrease the lightness and develop dark color. For maintaining inherent color of the loess, it is much preferable to employ chitosan treatment rather than tannin treatment.

  • The surface of natural graphite was modified by the use of hydrogen peroxide and evaluated as an anode material for lithium ion capacitors (LICs). The surface treatment was carried out under various ultrasonic conditions of 200, 300, and 400W, which were applied to a mixture of natural graphite and hydrogen peroxide solution for 1 h. While the bulk structure was maintained, the hexagonal symmetry and physical properties of natural graphite, such as BET surface area, tap density, and particle size, were affected by the surface treatment. FT-IR and XPS measurements confirmed the signature of C=O on the surface of graphite samples after treatment. Both the pristine and surface-treated graphites showed a similar reversible capacity of $370mAhg^{-1}$, and the coulombic efficiency of surface-treated graphite decreased with higher ultrasonic energies (89.1%, 89.0%, and 88.0% for 200, 300, and 400 W) comparing with pristine graphite (89.4%). The capacity retention of LICs was greatly improved with the treated natural graphite. The graphite treated under the ultrasonic energy of 300 W and pristine natural graphite showed capacity retention of 77.5% and 42.9%, implying that the surface treatment was an effective method for the improvement of natural graphite as an anode material for LICs.

  • We have examined the induction of HL-60 cell differentiation by treatment of 2-chloromethyl-1-dihydroxyphosphinyl pyrrolidine(2C-1DPP), which is derivative of piperidine and pyrrolidine by ${\alpha}-phosphoramidoakylation$ reaction. It was observed that HL-60 cell proliferation was dose- and time-dependently inhibited by treatment with 2C-1DPP. 2C-1DPP treatment caused a significant change in NBT reduction and enhanced ATRA-induced NBT reduction. Treatment of 2C-1DPP to HL-60 cells increased only CD11b expression in the cells, and also increased markedly G0/G1 stage arrest of HL-60 cells. These results can suggest that 2C-1DPP induced the differentiation of HL-60 cells to granulocytes lineage and enhanced ATRA-induced differentiation. Moreover, DNA expression levels of p27 were up-regulated during 2C-1DPP-dependent HL-60 cell differentiation. Our results suggest that 2C-1DPP have potential as a therapeutic agent in human leukemia.

  • The process of biological treatment of organic wastewater is principally associated with those of self-purification in the natural water environment. The treatment system has e intensive function of stabilizing wastewater more effectively than in natural water, which is like natural water concentrated in a small space. Biological treatment of wastewater involves activated sludge and various modified process, trickling filter, rotating disk, oxidation ditch, etc. for aerobic decomposition and anaerobic processes such as anaerobic decomposition and methane fermentation. The basic characteristic of these processes is the use of mixed culture for the conversion of pollutants. This review forcuses on the various kinds of microorganisms related to each treatment processes. Kinetic analysis of the activated sludge process is discussed in order to understand the basis of control and maintenance of the biological treatment process.

  • In this study, one of disadvantages is to improve the durability of natural dyeing. In order to enhance linkage of Chitosan or Linkage of between Chitosan and cotton fabrics, effect of increasing amount of Silane on Chitosan durability and possibility of using Chitosan as natural mordant were reviewed. After treatment of chitosan with silane, color effect is similar to dyeability used metal mordant. And the durability's washing fastness and air permeability as using chitosan with silane is better than treatment of metal mordant. Chitosan with silane can perform the natural mordant.

  • Using natural frequency measurement method, which is one of NDT method, natural frequency of the hot-rolled mild steel plate(specimen) under fatigue loading was measured. Between the degradation of the specimen under fatigue loading and the variation of the natural frequency of the specimen was investigated. As a result, the degradation of the specimen was described and monitored as variation of natural frequency of specimen. The natural frequency of specimen decreased gradually under fatigue loading. This means the variation of material properties of specimen. Especially. It means the variation of Young's modulus of specimen.

  • We studied the efficacy of the 'Natural Enemy in First (NEF)' technology in controlling thrips and aphids in tomato greenhouses, relative to the natural enemy and conventional chemical treatments. This technology combined the use of natural enemies of the pests (parasites/predators) with their food sources/habitats, and the treatment commenced at the time of planting. The 'NEF' technology, for the control of thrips, had an efficacy 32% higher than the natural enemy treatment, and 82% higher than the conventional chemical treatment. The average population density of aphids after the treatment was not significantly different among all treatments.

  • AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a major cellular energy sensor and master regulator of metabolic homeostasis. On activation, this cellular fuel sensing enzyme induces a series of metabolic changes to balance energy consumption via multiple downstream signaling pathways controlling nutrient uptake and energy metabolism. This pivotal role of AMPK has led to the development of numerous AMPK activators which might be used as novel drug candidates in the treatment of AMPK related disorders, diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic diseases. Consequently, a number of patents have been published on AMPK activators from natural products and other sources. This review covers the patented AMPK activators from natural products and their therapeutic potential in treatment or prevention of metabolic diseases including diabetes and obesity.

  • Calystegia dahurica (Herb.) Choisy is a natural product that has not been studied for efficacy or active ingredients. The purpose of this study is to investigate the activation effect of natural killer cells using a natural extract composition based on Calystegia dahurica (Herb.) Choisy extract (CDCE). We evaluated the activity of natural killer cells in natural products using PBMCs from healthy participants. All natural products were extracted with 50% ethanol. Based on the results of the cell viability assay, PBMCs of healthy participants were treated with extracts at various concentrations. Then, analysis was performed using flow cytometry to measure the cd107a surface expression of natural killer cells. As a result, treatment with a single extract of PBMCs increased the expression of cd107a in a concentration-dependent. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the treatment of the extract composition showed the highest expression of cd107a. In conclusion, it is expected that the extract composition containing CDCE according to this study can be used for prevention or treatment of cancer cells, tumor cells, and immune diseases.
