Research was initiated to investigate the early establishment characteristics and germination patterns of perennial ryegrass (PR, Lolium perenne L.). Eight cultivars of PR were evaluated in the study. Experiment was conducted under a room temperature condition of $6^{\circ}C$ to $23^{\circ}C$ (natural conditions). Daily and cumulative germination patterns were measured and analyzed on a daily basis. Significant differences were observed in germination pattern, days to the first germination, days to 50% germination, days to 75% germination, and germination percentage with different environments and cultivars. Germination percentage was variable with cultivars at the end of study. It was 66.25 to 93.50% under natural conditions. There were considerable variations in the early germination characteristics and germination pattern among the entries according to different conditions. The first germination was initiated between 3 and 5 DAS (days after seeding) under ISTA (International Seed Testing Association) conditions. But it started between 6 and 8 DAS under natural conditions, being 2 to 4 days later as compared with that under ISTA conditions. It was 8 to 12 DAS that reached to days to the 50% germination, which was 2 to 5 days after the first germination. Days to the 75% germination were 10.08 to 13.70 DAS under natural conditions, being 2.07 to 5.70 days slower as compared with ISTA conditions. 'Pennant II' was the fastest cultivar. But the slowest was 'Catalina II' that was 3.62 days later than 'Pennant II' under natural conditions. Considering days to the first germination, days to 75% germination, and germination pattern etc, 'Pennant II' and 'Brightstar II' were regarded as excellent cultivars under both conditions. From this study, information on differences in germination characteristics and patterns would be usefully applied for golf course design and construction, when established with PR.
The characteristics of natural resin, sap of the lacquer tree were examined as an adhesive for the ceramic conservation since it has such outstanding properties like corrosion resistance against acid and alkali, heat-resistance, waterproof, antiseptic and protection against insects. In order to utilize raw lacquer as an adhesive not under the hardening conditions of lacquer like high humidity (RH 75 to 85%) and high temperature (120 to $170^{\circ}C$), but under normal condition, isinglass and animal glue were added to raw lacquer at certain ratio. In addition, the viscosity and the drying time were measured and their possibilities of application were also investigated through measurement of tensile and adhesive strength. As a result of experiment, it was possible to dry at room temperature and RH $50{\pm}5%$ to mix with raw lacquer and glue, and the drying time of sample with animal glue was faster than that of isinglass. Furthermore, the adhesion of sample with glue was increased more than raw lacquer. It seems to be possible to use the environmental friendly traditional adhesive for the ceramic conservation and restoration, if there are studies or examinations of safety of applications on objects and weathering resistance.

In cool storage of Multiple regression equation of toyo index based on physicochemical properties of unhulled rice, highest coefficient of determination was revealed among five facters of moisture content, amylose content, gelatinization start temperature, breakdown and setback.
For better diagnosis and prescription in Korean traditional medicine, Lee Je-Ma (1837-1900) created Sasang Constitution classification which was divided into four groups of Taeyangin, Soyangin, Taeumin and Soumin based on both body shape and natural disposition. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of facial skin parameters (hydration, lipid and pH) on forehead and cheek according to Sasang Constitution classifications of Taeumin, Soyangin and Soumin in Korean. Eighty-nine Korean female subjects were recruited for this study and the average age of them was 19.9${\pm}$0.84 years. The four groups by the Sasang Constitution were classified by questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution classification proposed by Kyung-Hee Oriental Medicine Hospital. Consequently, thirty-eight (42.7%) among the subjects were grouped into Soumin, twenty-nine (32.6%) into Taeumin, twenty (22.5%) into Soyangin and two (2%) into Taeyangin. Taeyangin group was excluded from statistical analysis due to small subjects. Hydration, lipid and pH parameters on forehead and cheek were measured by using non-invasive instruments of Corneometer (CM 825, Schwarzhaup, Germany), Sebumeter (SM 815, Schwarzhaup, Germany) and Skin-pH-meter (pH 905, Schwarzhaup, Germany), respectively. The measurements by the same investigator were performed under standardized condition with a room temperature of $21^{\circ}C$ and a humidity level of 40% to 50%. As a result, hydration (F=25.481, p=.000), lipid (F=5.753, p=.005) and pH (F=5.010, p=.009) of the forehead skin showed significant differences in the order of Taeumin, Soyangin and Soumin. Hydration (F=23.216, p=.000), lipid (F=6.898 p=.002) and pH (F=5.070, p=.008) of the cheek skin showed significant differences in the order of Taeumin, Soyangin and Soumin. In conclusion, facial skin surface seemed to be dependent on Sasang Constitution classification in Korean. These findings indicated that Sasang Constitution classification might be an useful esthetic treatment for caring facial skin in the future.

The optimum condition for the extraction of antimicrobial substance from Lithospermi radix was investigated. For the purpose of obtaining basic data for the development of natural preservatives and for the prevention of food poisoning accidents, its antimicrobial activity was tested against several kinds of saprophytic microbes and food poisoning bacteria. The optimum condition for extraction of antimicrobial substance was to steep Lithospermi radix into 95% ethanol for 24 hours at room temperature. Antimicrobial activity was observed at the pH range $5.0{\sim}8.0$, but its activity became stronger at acidic condition. The result of ion exchange chromatography was showed that the antimicrobial activity of anionic portion was more apparent than that of cationic portion. The antimicrobial activity against Gram positive bacteria was stronger than that of Gram negative bacteria and the growth of food poisoning bacteria such as S. aureus and V. parahaemolyticus was inhibited in the concentration of 0.1% for 48 hours. As for mold and yeast, the growth of some kinds of these organisms was inhibited in the concentration of 0.1 % for 48 hours and the growth of nearly all the fungi was inhibited in the concentration of 0.15% for 96 hours.
Theses studies were conducted to clarify the germinating characteristics of seed treated with different temperature, light, and ($Gibberellin(GA_3)$) to produce the homogeneous seedlings Angelicogigas NAKAI. The results obtained are summarized as follows: Rate and speed of germinating at $25^{\circ}C$ were higher than $15^{\circ}C$and $20^{\circ}C$ by 87.3% and 68.9% and also the required day for germination at 25°C was shortest by 14.1 days. Germination rate at the light condition was 90.7% and that at the dark was 65.7%. Germinating ability of seed stored at $4^{\circ}C$and $-10^{\circ}C$ for 165 days as dried states was 92.0% and 91.3%, while that at room temperature was 50.3%, but the longer storage of seed than 165 days decreased the ability. Gibberellin treatment by 10ppm to seed stored at $4^{\circ}C$ and by 6ppm to seed stored at $-10^{\circ}C$ increased the germination rate more by 20.9% and 31.7% than nontreated seed.
Four types of fluid inclusions are trapped within tourmaline from Daeyou pegmatite, Jangsu-Gun, Jeonllabukdo. They range $5{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$ in size and are grouped into I, II, III, and IV based on the phase behavior at the room temperature: (1) Type I inclusions are liquid-rich and NaCl equivalent salinity ranged $0{\sim}12\;wt%$, and the homogenization temperatures (Th) ranged $181{\sim}230^{\circ}C$ with eutectic temperatures (Te) $-54{\sim}-22^{\circ}C$. (2) Type II inclusions are vapor-rich and salinity ranged $3{\sim}8\;wt%$ NaCl, and Th ranged $177{\sim}304^{\circ}C$ also showing Te $-54{\sim}-29^{\circ}C$. (3) Type III inclusions contain a halite daughter mineral with $31{\sim}40\;wt%$ NaCl, Th $230{\sim}328^{\circ}C$. More than 90% of Type III homogenize by halite dissolution and are spatially associated with silicate melt inclusions. (4) Type IV inclusions are $CO_{2}$-bearing containing various daughter minerals such as sylvite and/or halite. The density of $CO_{2}$ system within the Type IV is $0.80{\sim}0.75\;g/cm^{3}$, Th $190{\sim}317^{\circ}C$, and salinity $2{\sim}35\;wt%$ NaCl. Type III fluid inclusions, considered as the earliest fluid, formed from the fluid exsolved from the crystallizing pegmatite. It is suggested that Type II fluid in the central part of tourmaline were exsolved earlier than Type I fluids in the margin indicating salinity fluctuation during the growth of tourmaline. It implies the fluctuation of the pressure since the salinity of fluid exsolved from the crystallizing melt is governed by the pressure. The last fluid was Type IV, which may be derived from the nearby limestone and metasedimentary rocks. It is suggested that Daeyou pegmatite containing muscovite without miarolitic cavities was formed by the partial melting resulted from the regional metamorphism. Subsequently, the exsolving fluids from the crystallizing melt were trapped in tourmaline at high pressure condition. The exsolved fluids contain various components such as $CaCl_{2}\;and\;MgCl_{2}$ as well as NaCl and KCl. The exsolution began at least at $2.7{\sim}5.3\;kbar\;and\;230{\sim}328^{\circ}C$ with the pressure fluctuation.

Experiments have been performed to investigate biological characteristics of Diglyphus isaea (Walker), an ectoparasite of Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess). At $25^{\circ}C$, development time of D. isaea was estimated as 1.3 days for eggs, 4.5 days for larvae and 6.3 days for pupae. Adult longevity was 25.1 days, and a female adult could lay 305.3 eggs throughout its lifetime. Number of L. trifolii parasitized or killed by the wasp was 962.2 individuals/adult. Most of all parasitized or killed larvae were identified as third instar. With 20% honeyed water as food source, half of the adults could survive 180 days at $5^{\circ}C$, 150 days at $10^{\circ}C$, and 90 days at $15^{\circ}C$. After storing at $10^{\circ}C$ with absolute honey for 30 days, 70 days and 140 days, a female adult in room temperature laid eggs 190.8 individuals, 104.0 individuals and 89.4 individuals, respectively.
This study conducted a chemical experiment on the Leisegang phenomenon, which is known to be the principle of rhyolite formation, and analyzed the results. Even if the same chemical elements precipitated, the shape of Leisegang rings was different according to the condition of medium and depending on inner electrolyte and outer electrolyte. The experiment used agar, gelatin and mung-bean jelly as media. We prepared 0.01M inner electrolyte containing agar 1%, gelatin 2% and mung-bean jelly 5% and curdled the solution at room temperature for 12 hours and, as a result, we obtained viscosity optimal for experimenting on the diffusion of outer electrolyte, and Leisegang rings appeared clearly according to the characteristic of each chemical element. In $PbI_2$ with solubility product($K_{sp}$) of $7.9{\times}10^{-9}$ the intervals of Leisegang rings caused by the reaction of inner electrolyte 0.01M KI and outer electrolyte 25% $Pb(NO_3){_2}$ were narrow between 0.01cm and 0.12cmm but increased gradually, but in with of $8.3{\times}10^{-17}$ the intervals of Leisegang rings caused by the reaction of inner electrolyte 0.01M KI and outer electrolyte 25% $AgNO_3$ were between 0.7cm and 0.45cm and decreased gradually. This suggests that, in the chemical formation of Leisegang rings, the interval and size of the rings are correlated with the solubility product of the precipitates.

It is matter of fact processing technology must affects the quality and yield of final product and these also depend on the selection of raw material directly or indirectly. So that the estimation of tile preprocessing condition of shellfish is of great importance for distributors and processors. This study was attempted to establish the basic data for evaluating the processing suitability of baby clam, which is one of the five important shellfishes for domestic use and export. The important results are as follows: 1. The ratio of meat volume and meat weight to the holding capacity by shells may be useful for measuring the condition index of baby clams. 2. Baby clams grown in the beds with the composition of a large quantity of gravel were low in condition index value than in sand and mud. 3. If the green feed phenomenon was the prime consideration for canned baby clams, tile most suitable harvest season if October. In this period, the digestive tract in body was almost colorless. 4. As a whole, seasonal changes of moisture and fat content in baby clams were reversely correlated. Protein content increased from April and slightly decreased for a while from July to August and increased again from September. In March, the content of glycogen was 6.3 to 6.8 percent. From this period to October, glycogen was rapidly decreased. In October, it was only 0.1 to 0.2 percent but increased from November. There were little seasonal changes in pH value and crude ash content. The pH value of meat was 6.0 to 6.2 and crude ash content was about 2 percent. 5. By the results of condition index and chemical composition of baby clams, the suitable harvest season as raw materials for processing was from March to June and from September to October. 6. The steamed baby clam meat was packed with 2 percent salt solution containing 0.15 percent, citric acid or 0.5 percent $Na_2$ EDTA in a round sanitary tin can coated with C-enamel that is 203.9 ml by volume and sterilized for 60 minutes at $112^{\circ}C$. The canned product has shown a good result to reserve the natural characteristics of baby clam through six month storage at room temperature.
