  • The natural frequency measurement of passenger car tire under the load and rotation are studied. In order to obtain theoretical natural frequency and mode shape, the plane vibration of a tire is modeled to that of circular beam. By using the Tickling method based on Hamilton's principle, theoretical results are determined by considering tension force due to tire inflation pressure, rotational velocity and tangential, radial stiffness. Modal parameters varying the inflation pressure, load, rotational velocity are determined experimentally by using frequency response function method. The results show that experimental conditions are parameter for shifting of natural frequency.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Natural Frequency behavior characteristic of Wind Turbine Tower model, and calculated the stress values of thrust load, wave load, wind load, current load, and gravity load. The offshore Jacket Type Tower which was installed in Vitenam South China Sea is used for the study. Natural frequency and mode shape are calculated with commercial program using the measured vibration. The finite element analysis is performed with commercial F.E.M program(ANSYS) on the basis of the natural frequency and mode shape.

  • The substructure synthesis method is used for making it easy to analyze vibration systems generally in vibration field. In the past, this method has been to be used mainly because of shortage of computer memory and CPU time. But recently this method is used for analyzing complex structure or identifying the characteristics of systems precisely. The purpose of this study is to develop acoustic substructure synthesis method that can be applied to acoustic modal analysis of complex acoustic systems. Acoustic modal analysis method to be introduced here is a method that analyze acoustic natural mode shape of the complex acoustic system by the principle of CMS(component mode synthesis method). This paper describes the acoustic modal analysis of the acoustic finite element model of simple expansion pipe by acoustic substructure synthesis method. The resutls of acoustic modal analysis analyzed by Acoustic substructure synthesis method and the results by FEM(finite element method) shows good agreement.

  • This paper describes the vibration characteristics of a high head pump-turbine runner. with nine blades and an outer diameter of 4.410 mm. of the pumped storage power plant. Mode shapes and natural frequencies were obtained by means of both the finite element analysis and modal testing. both in air and in water. The natural frequencies in air were calculated using the finite element method by ANSYS software. In order to confirm calculation results. the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the runner were measured using a hydraulic exciter both in air and in water. Natural frequencies of the pump-turbine runner were found at 174. 310 Hz in air, and at 107. 184 Hz in water. The first mode shape is flat plate mode with two nodal diameter and the second one is also flat plate mode with three nodal diameter. It can be shown that the natural frequencies of the pump-turbine runner in water is reduced approximately 40 % due to additional mass effect. Natural frequencies in air predicted by ANSYS software are in good agreement with test results.

  • The measurement of radial directional natural frequency ina passenger car tire rotating under the load is studied. In order to obtain theoretical matural frequency and mode shape, the ploane vibration of a tire is modeled to that of circular beam. By esing the Tieking method based on Hamiltons's principle, theoretical results are determined by considering tension horce due to tire inflation pressure, retational velocity and tangential, radial stiffness. Radial directional modal parameters varying with the inflation pressure, load, rotational velocity are experimentally determined by using frequency response function method. The results show that experimental conditions canbe considered as the parameters which shift the natural frequency.

  • Finite element analysis of concrete slab system in apartment building was executed using the tables of orthogonal arrays, and optimal design process was proposed. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the overall level and the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab. Finite element model of concrete slab was compared with experimental results, and well corresponded with an error of less than 10%. The tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 8 factors. 3 related to material properties and 5 related to slab shape parameters and its results were analyzed by statistical method, ANOVA. The most effective factor among them was slab thickness, and main effect factor from slab shape parameters was different from each natural frequency. The interaction was found in the higher mode over $3^{rd}$ natural frequency. From main effect plot and interaction plot, the optimal design factor to increase the natural frequency was determined.

  • A methodology to nondestructively locate and estimate size of damage in beam-type structures using a few natural frequencies or a few mode shapes is presented. A damage-localization algorithm to locate damage from changes in natural frequencies and a damage-sizing algorithm to estimate crack-size from natural frequency perturbation are outlined. A damage index algorithm to localize and estimate severity of damage from monitoring changes in mode shapes is outlined. The frequency-based method and the mode-shape-based method are evaluated for several damage scenarios by locating and sizing damage in PS concrete beams lot which a few natural frequencies and mode shapes are generated from finite element models. The result of the analyses indicates that the two methods correctly localize and closely estimate the size of the crack simulated in the test beam.

  • This paper described the dynamic characteristics of 20-story apartment buildings from the results of full-scale measurements and analysis. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are quantified by measuring and analyzing ambient vibrations of the structure and compared with the results from dynamic analysis. Comparison with computed mode shapes and frequencies shows good agreement with the experimental results. It proved that it is important to estimate coupling beam and soil parameters through a comparison of the measured results with calculated results.

  • The effect of liquid level on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a partially liquid-filled circular cylindrical shell with various boundary conditions is investigated by means of a theoretical analysis based upon Fourier series expansion method and a finite element analysis using ANSYS computer program. Two dimensional mode shapes of the liquid-coupled shell structure are obtained by the ANSYS finite element analysis and show that the liquid level affect the nodal point movement. It is found that the variation of normalized naturalfrequencies (natural frequencies of liquid-filled shell/antural frequencies ofempty shell) to the liquid level is depend on the axial mode numbers and circumferential wave numbers. Additionally, it is found that the number of variational steps of normalized natural frequencies is identicial to that of axial nodal points of the mode shape.

  • This paper adopts the numerical assembly method (NAM) to determine the exact solutions of natural frequencies and mode shapes of a multi-span and multi-step beam carrying a number of various concentrated elements including point masses, rotary inertias, linear springs, rotational springs and springmass systems. First, the coefficient matrix for an intermediate station with various concentrated elements, cross-section change and/or pinned support and the ones for the left-end and right-end supports of a beam are derived. Next, the overall coefficient matrix for the entire beam is obtained using the numerical assembly technique of the conventional finite element method (FEM). Finally, the exact solutions for the natural frequencies of the vibrating system are determined by equating the determinant of the last overall coefficient matrix to zero and the associated mode shapes are obtained by substituting the corresponding values of integration constants into the associated eigenfunctions.
