A Frequency-Domain Normalized MBD Algorithm with Unidirectional Filters for Blind Speech Separation

  • A new multichannel blind deconvolution algorithm is proposed for speech mixtures. It employs unidirectional filters and normalization of gradient terms in the frequency domain. The proposed algorithm is shown to be approximately nonholonomic. Thus it provides improved convergence and separation performances without whitening effect for nonstationary sources such as speech and audio signals. Simulations using real world recordings confirm superior performances over existing algorithms and its usefulness for real applications.

  • In this paper we present and compare two different spatio-temporal decorrelation learning algorithms for updating the weights of a linear feedforward network with FIR synapses (MIMO FIR filter). Both standard gradient and the natural gradient are employed to derive the spatio-temporal decorrelation algorithms. These two algorithms are applied to multichannel blind deconvolution task and their performance is compared. The rigorous derivation of algorithms and computer simulation results are presented.

A Gaussian Mixture Model for Binarization of Natural Scene Text

  • Recently, due to the increase of the use of scanned images, the text segmentation techniques, which play critical role to optimize the quality of the scanned images, are required to be updated and advanced. In this study, an algorithm has been developed based on the modification of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) by integrating the calculation of Gaussian detection gradient and the estimation of the number clusters. The experimental results show an efficient method for text segmentation in natural scenes such as storefronts, street signs, scanned journals and newspapers at different size, shape or color of texts in condition of lighting changes and complex background. These indicate that our model algorithm and research approach can address various issues, which are still limitations of other senior algorithms and methods.

  • For blind source separation of convolutive mixtures, FDICA(Frequency Domain Independent Component Analysis) algorithms are generally used. Since FDICA algorithm such as Sawada FDICA, IVA(Independent Vector Analysis) works on the frequency bin basis with a natural gradient descent method, it takes much time to converge. In this paper, we propose a new method to improve convergence speed in FDICA algorithm. The proposed method reduces the number of iteration drastically in the process of natural gradient descent method by applying a weighted inner product constraint of unmixing matrix. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method achieved large improvement of convergence speed without degrading the separation performance of the baseline algorithms.

  • The purpose of this study is the infiltration characteristics of soil cut-slope by rainfall. Stability analysis of soil cut-slopes has been conducted by limit equilibrium method on Seep/w and finite element method on Slope/w. Result is same as following. First. the hour when seepage line and groundwater in contact is proportionate from rainfall rate condition and upper natural slope gradient condition which is identical. Second, when seepage line and groundwater is contact, seepage line moves gradually at soil cut-slope surface. Finally, seepage line is formed similarly with soil cut-slope gradient. Third, when rainfall is ended, from the recording upper natural slope where the hour will pass it is stabilized

Neural Learning Algorithms for Independent Component Analysis

  • Independent Component analysis (ICA) is a new statistical method for extracting statistically independent components from their linear instantaneous mixtures which are generated by an unknown linear generative model. The recognition model is learned in unsupervised manner so that the recovered signals by the recognition model become the possibly scaled estimates of original source signals. This paper addresses the neural learning approach to ICA. As recognition models a linear feedforward network and a linear feedback network are considered. Associated learning algorithms for both networks are derived from maximum likelihood and information-theoretic approaches, using natural Riemannian gradient [1]. Theoretical results are confirmed by extensive computer simulations.

  • A structural modification of baseframe is an effective method to avoid resonance in marine diesel generator (D/G) set which consists of diesel engine, generator and baseframe. However the reinforcement with thick plates or additional parts to increase the natural frequency can be less effective because of increased weight. Especially fine control of target mode based on the experience is difficult because the weight and interference of system have to be considered. In this paper, the design optimization of baseframe was performed to reduce the resonant vibration using a gradient descent method. The design parameters such as thickness, shape and location of baseframe parts are optimized to increase the torsional natural frequency of D/G set. From the actual test, the new designed baseframe reduced the vibration level in resonance by 55% without any increase of weight and interference. interference.

Free vibration of AFG beams with elastic end restraints

  • Axially functionally graded (AFG) beams are a new class of composite structures that have continuous variations in material and/or geometrical parameters along the axial direction. In this study, the exact analytical solutions for the free vibration of AFG and uniform beams with general elastic supports are obtained by using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The elastic supports are modeled with linear rotational and lateral translational springs. Moreover, the material and/or geometrical properties of the AFG beams are assumed to vary continuously and together along the length of the beam according to the power-law forms. Accordingly, the accuracy, efficiency and capability of the proposed formulations are demonstrated by comparing the responses of the numerical examples with the available solutions. In the following, the effects of the elastic end restraints and AFG parameters, namely, gradient index and gradient coefficient, on the values of the first three natural frequencies of the AFG and uniform beams are investigated comprehensively. The analytical solutions are presented in tabular and graphical forms and can be used as the benchmark solutions. Furthermore, the results presented herein can be utilized for design of inhomogeneous beams with various supporting conditions.

Characterization of a Vibrio parahaemolyticus Phage Isolated from Marine (해양에서 분리한 Vibrio parahaemolyticus Phage의 특성)

  • A novel bacteriophage, designated as VPP97, that infects the strains of Vibiro parahaemolyticus (hallophilic, Gram-negative bacterium) isolated most commonly from marine environments, has been discovered, and several of its properties have been determined. The plaques were clear and sized $0.6{\sim}1.0\;mm$ in diameter. The virion forms a single band on 70% sucrose gradient and ${\rho}1.50$ CsCl gradient by sucrose gradient centrifugation and CsCl gradient centrifugation respectively. It has a hexagonal head and a relatively long tail, as shown by electron microscopy. Vibrio alginolyticus, Vibrio fluvialis and Vibrio furnissii were also sensitive to this phage. It was almost totally inactivated at $70^{\circ}C$ and at pH below 5 or over 10. The nucleic acid of VPP97 is composed of DNA. The VPP97 had 9 specific structural proteins sized between 21.5 kDa and 97.4 kDa on SDS-PAGE. When V. parahaemolyticus cultures were treated with either phage VPP97 or one of the several antibiotics for 2 hours, the viable number of V. parahaemolyticus treated with the phage VPP97 is lower than that treated with chloramphenicol, erythromycin or penicillin, but not lower than that treated with tetracycline. Mice that have responded to the phage treatment revealed the lower numbers of V. parahaemolyticus in small intestine and less damage on small intestine compared to the untreated mice. Therefore, we suggest that the phage treatment appears effective to the infection by V. parahaemolyticus.
