  • Woods have been the familiar constructional materials because they were well suited to natural environments of Korea in terms of history regionalism and nationality. Since the modernization of Korea the wooden structure have mostly disappeared because of constructional costs regulations and convenience. But wooden constructions will reappear because of a prediction of wood demand and supply various choices for life circumstances and various investigations. There are many such cases. Among them Japan became an interesting object of investigation. New wooden constructional structures with new materials and modern skills may be observed in Japan. The purpose of this study is to trace architects' consciousness and to analyze constructions with the combination of wooden and other materials in Japan. Thus we explore a possibility to construct a new wooden structure which is suitable in modern Korea. The results were as follows: First the consciousness of Japanese architects' mixed wooden construction corresponds to the close relations between society and environment. Second the space of a structure with mixed wooden constructions in present Japan is chosen as the best way to consider functions and environments according to the form of need space scale and quality. Third the structure wooden constructional structure is a part of roof open space. in this case woods are represented and composed of japanese traditional wooden structure with new technique. Forth a mixed wooden construction has been used through a merit of each material by mixed of different materials as well as beauty of form.

  • Phytochemical investigation from the stem bark of Beilschmiedia pulverulenta resulted in the isolation of five lignans, (+)-yangambin (1), (+)-sesartemin (2), (+)-excelsin (3), (+)-sesamin (4), and (+)-syringaresinol (5), together with lupeol (6), lupenone (7), ${\beta}-sitosterol$ (8), and ${\beta}-sitostenone$ (9). Their structures were established by the analysis of their spectroscopic (1D and 2D NMR) and spectrometric (MS) data, as well as by comparison with those reported in the literature. The isolated lignans were tested for their anticholinesterase (AChE: acetylcholine esterase and BChE: butyryl cholineesterase) and anti-inflammatory (COX-2: cyclooxygenase-2 and LOX: lipoxygenase) activities. All the isolated lignans (1 - 5) exhibited significant inhibition activities in AChE/BChE and COX-2/LOX assays with $IC_{50}$ values ranging from $168.8-504.2{\mu}M$ and $21.0-59.4{\mu}M$, respectively.

  • Microwave remote sensing is probably the most recent experimental technique suitable to the non-contact measurement of deflections on large structures, in static or dynamic conditions. In the first part of the paper, the main techniques adopted in microwave remote sensing are described, so that advantages and potential issues of these techniques are presented and discussed. Subsequently, the paper addresses the application of the radar technology to the measurement of the vibration response on the stay cables of two cable-stayed bridges. The dynamic tests were performed in operational conditions (i.e. with the excitation being mainly provided by micro-tremors, wind and traffic) and the maximum deflections of the cables were generally lower than 5.0 mm. The investigation clearly highlights: (a) the safe and simple use of the radar on site and its effectiveness to simultaneously measure the dynamic response of all the stay cables of an array; (b) the negligible effects of the typical issues and uncertainties that might affect the radar measurements; (c) the accuracy of the results provided by the microwave remote sensing in terms of natural frequencies and tension forces of the stay cables; (d) the suitability of microwave interferometry to the repeated application within Structural Health Monitoring programmes.

  • The purpose of this study is to build Island biogeography in the basic concept of landscape ecology in South Korea by draw relationship between the species side of quantitative habitats and forest area surveyed in the national database based on investigation of the 2nd natural environment. In addition, try to present criterion of habitats character category after understanding habitats character of emergence area side of quality habitats based on the type of formatting. Species and forest area relationship analyzed using correlation analysis and simple regression analysis. Also habitat character limited composition ratio of neighboring land cover and analyzed using hierarchical cluster analysis to classify type of habitat. As a result, we found that forest area is correlated with number of species, forests which is bigger than 100ha are more important of increase in species' population. And according to land cover composition ratio, bird's classified types of forest inner species, forest edge species, forest outer species and mammal's classified types of forest inner species, forest general species, forest edge species. We suggest that study of species-forest area relationship and emergence habitat character be used as some management plans of species' conservation, protection and restoration.

  • In this study, a numerical analysis is made of the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in the solar arrays of HALE (High Altitude Lond Endurance) UAV. In the stratosphere where UAV operates, high level solar radiation is induced, heat transfer decreases due to natural convection and forced convection is dominated by ambient flow. In order to predict the solar array temperature range in this environment condition, the conjugate heat transfer analysis was carried out for the solar arrays on the main wing. The investigation focused on the temperature distribution of solar array and heat transfer characteristics according to influence of solar energy, flight condition as vehicle speed, air density, temperature.

  • This research provides insight on the laboratory investigation of the engineering properties of a lateritic soil modified with the mucilage of Opuntia ficus-indica cladodes (MOFIC), which has a history of being used as an earthen plaster. The soil is classified, according to AASHTO classification system, as A-2-6(1). The Atterberg limits, compaction, permeability, California bearing ratio (CBR) and unconfined compressive strength of the soil were determined for each of 0, 4, 8 and 12% addition of the MOFIC, by dry weight of the soil. The plasticity index, optimum moisture content, swell potential, unconfined compressive strength and permeability decreased while the soaked and unsoaked CBR increased, with increasing MOFIC contents. The engineering properties of the natural soil, which only satisfies standard requirements for use as subgrade material, became improved by the application of MOFIC such that it meets the standard requirements for use as sub-base material for road construction. The effects of MOFIC on the engineering properties of the soil resulted from bioclogging and biocementation processes. MOFIC is recommended for use as a modifier of the engineering properties of soils, especially those with similar characteristics to that of the soil used in this study, to be used as a pavement layer material. It is more economical and environment-friendly than conventional soil stabilizers or modifiers.

  • Purpose - This paper aims to examine several time series models to predict sales of department stores and discount store markets in South Korea, while other previous trial has performed sales of convenience stores and supermarkets. In addition, optimal predicted values on the underlying model can be got and be applied to distribution industry. Research design, data, and methodology - Two retailing types, under investigation, are homogeneous and comparable in size based on 86 realizations sampled from January 2010 to February in 2017. To accomplish the purpose of this research, both ARIMA model and exponential smoothing methods are, simultaneously, utilized. Furthermore, model-fit measures may be exploited as important tools of the optimal model-building. Results - By applying Holt-Winters' additive seasonality method to sales of two large-scale retailing types, persisting increasing trend and fluctuation around the constant level with seasonal pattern, respectively, will be predicted from May in 2017 to February in 2018. Conclusions - Considering 2017-2018 forecasts for sales of two large-scale retailing types, it is important to predict future sales magnitude and to produce the useful information for reforming financial conditions and related policies, so that the impacts of any marketing or management scheme can be compared against the do-nothing scenario.
