Comparative proteomic analysis of plant responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis

  • Environmental factors greatly influence the growth, development, and even genetic characteristics of plants. The mechanisms by which sound influences plant growth, however, remain obscure. Previously, our group reported that several genes were differentially regulated by specific frequenciesof sound treatmentusing a sound-treated subtractive library. In this study, we used a proteomic approach to investigate plant responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis. The plants were exposed to 250-Hz or 500-Hz sound waves, and total proteins were extracted from leaves 8 h and 24 h after treatment. Proteins extracted from leaves were subjected to 2-DE analysis. Thirty-eight spots were found to be differentially regulated in response to sound waves and were identified using MALDI-TOF MS and MALDI-TOF/TOF MS. The functions of the identified proteins were classified into photosynthesis, stress and defense, nitrogen metabolism, and carbohydrate metabolism. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the analysis of protein changes in response to sound waves in Arabidopsis leaves. These findings provide a better understanding of the molecular basis of responses to sound waves in Arabidopsis.

  • The study aims at analysing the practical effects of "blended learning system" and participatory research methodology. The business programs are running by RDA. Even though many leading farms have been tried on binding technology and agribusiness, however business of farms in Korea are still in the beginning stage. The business program for leading farms of RDA is not only education program but also participatory research program. This program consist of on-line and off line, seminar and business homework etc. The main results of this paper are as follows: 1) to make organization of farms to accomplish business goals 2) to find out solution for urgent problems and subjects of farm management 3) to construct system for leading farms and on-line communities 4) to practice profitable business model for leading farms. Farms needs are not only technology transference, but business model for success of farm management.

  • 본 논문에서는 PC 응용을 위한 고음질의 한국어 text-to-speech(TTS) 합성 시스템을 개발하였다. 개발된 시스템의 합성방식으로는 음의 고저 조절, 인접음 사이의 연결 처리 및 음색제어 등에서 기존의 PSOLA 방식에 비해 장점을 가지는 정현파 모델 기반의 방식을 채택하였고, 자연스러운 운율 모델링을 위하여 통계적 기법중의 하나인 Classification and regression tree(CART) 방법을 사용하였다. 또한 음소 경계의 불연속성 문제를 줄이기 위한 합성단위로 초성-중성 및 종성 단위를 사용하였고, 다양한 음색표현이 가능하도록 음색제어 기능을 갖추었다. 그리고, 표준 Speech Application Program Interface(SAPI)를 준용한 TTS engine 형태로 구현함으로써 PC 상에서의 응용 프로그램 개발 편의성을 높였다. 합성음의 청취평가 결과 음질의 우수성 및 음색제어 기능의 유효성을 확인할 수 있었다.

New In-service Education Program on Science Experiments to Develop Professionality of Science Teachers

  • The most important factor in students' growth and development is the teacher. Therefore in-service science teacher education to develop the professionality is important as well as the selection of new excellence teachers. Our research is on the development and application of new education program on science experiments where in-service teachers become the lecturers in the program and provide information that is bound to the context of real lessons. This program is consisted of following 10 steps of work, which was implemented in 5 months: sharing the philosophy of the program, selecting science experiments, first application of the experiments, discussion on the first application, learning how to edit the movie clips of the lesson, second application of the experiments, in depth discussion on the second application, developing the experiment package, giving lecture to other science teachers, and evaluating the program. We describe the process of the program developed and implemented in detail to suggest a model of science teacher education program on science experiments and discuss educational implications. This program is characterized by the emphasis of the context closely linked to the real lessons, the problem solving in a real situation, and the collaboration of teachers, professors and science education researcher in a teacher education.

한의약 건강증진 사업의 현황과 발전방안 연구 (A Study on the Status and Development Plan of the Korean Medical Public Health Program)

  • Objectives: We conducted research on 100 cases of Korean medical health promotion programs to determine how they work. The objective was to report trends in such programs and, by extension, to suggest a development plan for the Korean medical public health program. Methods: To research 100 Korean medical health promotion programs, we analyzed source data published by the Korea Health Promotion Institute in 2014-2018 using 10 criteria. Results & conclusions: Based on effective trends, the development of a Korean medical public health program requires the following options. First, we should complement the systems with related legislation and deal with Korean medical doctors who mainly participate in public health programs. Second, we should improve the infrastructure of the program with internal support from the Korean medical association and clarifying the legal basis of the national budget. Third, we should seek substantiality of public health programs. Korean medical doctors should actively participate in the program, and related agencies should support the public health care center for the development of Korean medical public health programs in which many people can participate.

한국의 연어생물학 연구 동향과 전망 (Present Status and Future Prospect in Salmon Research in Korea)

  • 우리나라에서 연어(Oncorhynchus keta) 에 대한 관심은 1980년대 양양내수면연구소가 설치된 이후에 크게 증가하였다. 그 이후 연어방류사업이 점차 확대되어 최근에는 한반도의 18 개 하천에서 연어가 방류되고 있다. 하지만 아직 연어에 대한 충분한 연구 투자가 선행되지 않아, 연어에 대한 생태학적 이해는 부족한 편이다. 특히 지구환경은 지난 수십 년 동안 급격히 바뀌었고, 연어 개체군의 생물학적 특성도 변화하는 환경의 영향을 받아왔다. 연어 분포의 남방한계선에 있는 우리나라의 연어는 기후 및 해양의 변화에 민감하게 반응할 것이므로, 향후의 환경 변화를 주시해야 할 필요가 있다. 본 특별호에서는 북태평양에서 연어가 차지하는 수산생태학적 위치를 개괄하였고, 현재 우리나라에서 수행 중인 연어 연구의 결과를 요약하였다. 본 특별호가 우리나라 연어 연구의 방향을 제시하는 계기가 되기를 바란다.

초등 교사를 위한 ADHD 아동 교수법 코칭 프로그램 개발 및 효과 (Development and Effects of an Instructional Coaching Program Regarding Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder for Elementary School Teachers)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of a newly developed instructional coaching program regarding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) for teachers. Methods: Seventy teachers participated in this study involving a nonequivalent control group and a pretest-posttest design. The instructional coaching program consisted of eight 60-minute sessions. The program was developed through a theoretical development program involving six steps. To evaluate the effects of the program, data were collected through self-report questionnaires including the Knowledge Scale of Attention Deficit Disorder, Attitude Scale of Primary School Teachers Experiencing Students with ADHD, Practice Scale of Educational Intervention Activity, and the Korean ADHD Rating Scale. Data were analyzed with an independent t test, a chi-square test, and an ANCOVA using SPSS WIN version 20. Results: The intervention program consisted of 3 sectors, 8 subjects, and 24 content items. The experimental group showed a significant improvement in attitudes toward ADHD (F=22.83, p<.001). In addition, teacher's knowledge regarding ADHD (F=7.16, p=.010) and the implementation of instructional interventions (F=4.29, p=.043) improved. Further, teachers reported a reduction in children's ADHD-related behavior (F=4.34, p=.041). Results showed that the coaching program made a positive contribution to teaching skills and understanding of school-age children with ADHD. Conclusion: The instructional coaching program was well structured and significantly improved not only teachers'attitudes, knowledge, and teaching skills but also the behavior of children with ADHD in class. Therefore, the program is recommended as a means of facilitating teaching and managing children with ADHD in class.

초등과학 영재 캠프 프로그램의 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of a Science Camp Program for Gifted Elementary School Students)

  • A Science Camp Program was developed and applied as an intensified course for gifted students. The implications for the development and implementation of out-of-school science activities were also deduced through the analysis of the preliminary application results. The key point of the science camp program is to boost students' science inquiry skills through self-directed activities. Several positive effects in terms of interest and participation in the program were observed and some implications were derived as follows; (1) The program should provide the students with more opportunities for discussion and debate in group activities. (2) The tasks need be divided into two parts; basic tasks and optional tasks in order to ensure that the students engage in fewer tasks more intensively. (3) Each activity needs sufficient orientation taking consideration of the possibility that not all students may be ready for the inquiry. (4) The use of real examples of scientific research processes can help the students develop open inquiry skills and problem posing skills.

중국의 해양생명공학 연구개발 최근 동향 (Recent Trend of Research Activity on Marine Biotechnology in China)

  • Research activities on the fields of marine biotechnology becomes active not only in developing countries but also in Asian countries. Among those countries China recently initiate the national marine biotechnology R&D program. Since 1996, marine biotechnology has been approved to be a subject of the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China as 863 program. In the first five years from 1996 to 2000 and successively in the second five years from 2001 to 2005, Marine Biotechnology R&D 863 program has been funded by Chinese government with 97.5 million RMB and then more than 200 million RMB, respectively. Under this program there are mainly six R&D subjects of marine biotechnology; 1. Breeding engineering, 2. Control of the disease, 3. Production system and culture facilities, 4. Marine drug and bioproducts, 5. Functional genes and genomics, 6. Breeding of the saltresistant plants. In this paper the research activities and results of 863 program were introduced, and from chinese cases we could leam how we plan and perform the marine biotechnology program of Korea in future.

국내 구매사업 시험평가에 미치는 영향요인 분석 (The Analysis of Factors Affecting Test and Evaluation in Domestic Purchase Program)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to analyse affecting factors of Test and Evaluation and to improve the institution of Test and Evaluation in the Domestic purchase program. Methods : The domestic acquisition program is currently small in terms of size, but it is gradually increasing every year. Still, the domestic purchase program has insufficient regulations and procedures compared to the other procurement methods including research & development. Various problems are likely to occur between test and evaluation group, and defense industries regarding the regulations during Test & Evaluation. Therefore, the regulations and methods need to be amended to upgrade the current domestic purchase program into an effective and flawless one. In this paper, six variables have been chosen by the help of experts working in Ministry of National Defense (MND), Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), Army Headquarters and DAPA. Results : The six variables are effectiveness of proposal evaluation, fairness of test and evaluation, sufficiency of operational capabilities, seasonal period of test and evaluation, fulfillment in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) of the industries, and guaranteeing appropriate environment for related enterprises' participation. Conclusion : This paper can help defense industries to enhance their development capabilities, and to perform tests more fairly and effectively considering the key factors identified in this research.
