The properties of carbon nanotube-metal hybrid nanostructures are critically dependent on the structure and chemistry of the metal-carbon nanotube interface. In this study, the interface between nickel and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been investigated using physical vapor-deposited (sputter-deposited) nickel onto the surface of freestanding carbon nanotube arrays processed by nano-imprint lithography (NIL). These interfaces have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy and 3D atom probe tomography. In the nickel nanocrystals growing on the CNT surface, a metastable hexagonal $Ni_3C$-types phase appears to be stabilized. The structural stability of the nickel-CNT interface is also discussed and related to potential implications for the properties of these nanocomposites.
[ $TiO_2$ ] nanotubes for photocatalytic application have been synthesized by hydrothermal method. $TiO_2$ nanotubes are formed by washing process after reaction in alkalic solution. Nanotubes with different morphology have been fabricated by changing NaOH concentration, temperature and time. $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were treated inside NaOH aqueous solution in a Teflon vessel at $110^{\circ}C$ for 20 h, after which they were washed with HCl aqueous solution and deionized water. Nanotube with the most perfect morphology was formed from 0.1 N HCl washing treatment. $TiO_2$ nanotube was also obtained when the precursor was washed with other washing solutions such as $NH_4OH$, NaCl, $K_2SO_4$, and $Na_2SO_3$. Therefore, it was suggested that $Na^+$ ion combined inside the precursor compound slowly comes out from the structure, leaving nanosheet morphology of $TiO_2$ compounds, which in turn become the nanotube in the presence of hydroxyl ion. To stabilize the sheet morphology, the different type of washing treatment solution might be considered such as amine class compounds.
This paper presents a method to deice concrete pavement with carbon nanotube(CNT) as an heating material so as to avoid the adverse effects of conventional deicing method such as salt on the structure, function and environment. To this end, laboratory tests integrated with numerical simulations were conducted. In the laboratory tests, the CNT was embedded inside the concrete slab and generated the heat up to the target temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ in the freezer at temperature of $-10^{\circ}C$. Then, the surface temperature was measured to investigate how far the heat transfers on the surface at temperature of above $0^{\circ}C$. Also, three different spacings of 15, 20 and 30cm between CNTs were conducted to determine the maximum allowable spacing of CNT. Along with these experimental tests, heat transferring analysis conducted to validate the test results.

Since the early work of Tersoff and Hamann on the theory of the scanning tunneling microscope (STM), many theoretical approaches have been developed in order to gain further physical insight into the real space image that this technique provides. In this Paper, the STM image of Carbon nanotubes (CNT's) was calculated through the theoretical study. The optimized structure of CNT's was simulated using Brenner's hydrocarbon potential. The structure of simulation is (5. 5) armchair CNT and (10. 0) zigzag CNT. Also we have used that the extended Huckel tight binding (EHTB) theory already provides a fairly good qualitative description of the main processes that control the final contrast in the STM image. we found that the shape of the calculated images is hardly dependent on the exact electronic charge distribution at the surface. The STM images are not too sensitive to the precise electronic structure but, rather, they reflect its qualitative features. As a result of the simulation, The STM images of CNT's and the electronic density distribution were investigated. It found that the EHTB theory is appropriate for STM image calculation and that the STM images are in agreement with the result of Experiment.
The hydrogen gas sensing properties of a zinc oxide nanowire structure were studied. Porous zinc oxide nanowire structures were fabricated by oxidizing zinc deposited on a single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) template. This revealed a porous ZnO-SWNT composite due to the porosity in the SWNT film. The gas sensing properties were compared with those of zinc oxide thin films deposited on SiO2/Si substrates in sensitivity and operating temperature. The composite structure showed higher sensitivity and lower operating temperature than the zinc oxide film. It showed a response even at room temperature while the film structure did not.
An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of carbon nanotubes on the zinc corrosion resistance of sealing layer formed on the Tungsten Carbide spray coating. Using the nanotubes, a sealing agent in the form of solid-liquid suspensions was made and applied to the surface of spray coating. A series of experiments, consisted of three stages such as preparation of test piece, molten-pot immersion test, and evaluation of micro structure, were undertaken to demonstrate complicated interaction existing between zinc ions and sealing layer containing the nanotubes. Experimental results showed newly developed sealing layer were less susceptible to corrosion and thus coated layer was well protected even in the case of 10 days exposure. Comparison of the micro structure after molten pot test also indicated that carbon nanotubes still remained in the matrix and organized more reliable frame work constituted with boron nitride and chromium compound. It was revealed that carbon nanotubes in the sealing layer played positive role to enhance zinc corrosion resistance in the perspective of both fibrous structure and inherent chemical stability.
High energy ball milling is employed to produce iron matrix- multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) reinforced composite. The damage caused to MWCNT due to harsh ball milling condition and its influence on interfacial bonding is studied. Different amount of MWCNT is used to find the optimal percentage of MWCNT for avoidance of the formation of chemical reaction product at the matrix - reinforcement interface. Effect of process control agent is assessed by the use of different materials for the purpose. It is observed that ethanol as a process control agent (PCA) causes degradation of MWCNT reinforcements after milling for two hours whereas solid stearic acid used as process control agent, allows satisfactory conservation of MWCNT structure. It is further noted that at a high MWCNT content (~ 2wt.%), high energy ball milling leads to reaction of iron and carbon and forms iron carbide (cementite) at the iron-MWCNT interface. At low percentage of MWCNT, dissolution of carbon in iron takes place and the amount of reinforcement in iron matrix composite becomes negligibly small. However, under the present ball milling condition (ball to metal ratio~ 6:1 and 200 rpm vial speed) iron-1wt.% MWCNT composite of good interfacial bonding can retain the tubular structure of reinforcing MWCNT.

As complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) continues to scale down deeper into the nanoscale, various device non-idealities cause the I-V characteristics to be substantially different from well-tempered metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). The last few years witnessed a dramatic increase in nanotechnology research, especially the nanoelectronics. These technologies vary in their maturity. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are at the forefront of these new materials because of the unique mechanical and electronic properties. CNTFET is the most promising technology to extend or complement traditional silicon technology due to three reasons: first, the operation principle and the device structure are similar to CMOS devices and it is possible to reuse the established CMOS design infrastructure. Second, it is also possible to reuse CMOS fabrication process. And the most important reason is that CNTFET has the best experimentally demonstrated device current carrying ability to date. This paper discusses and reviewsthe feasibility of the CNTFET's application at this point of time in integrated circuits design by investigating different types of circuit blocks considering the advantages that the CNTFETs offer.
Carbon nanotubes were synthesized at various conditions using Ni-catalytic thermal chemical vapor deposition method and their characteristic properties were investigated by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Carbon nanotubes were formed on very fine Ni-catalytic particles. The carbon nanotubes synthesized by thermal decomposition of acetylene at $700^{\circ}C$ had a coiled shape, while those synthesized at $850^{\circ}C$ showed a curved and Y-shape having a bamboo-like morphology. It was found that the carbon nanotube was also made on the fine Ni-catalytic particles formed on the surface of 100~400nm sized large ones after pretreatment with $NH_3$.ber composites show the high dielectric constant and large conduction loss which is increased with anisotropy of fiber arrangement. It is, therefore, proposed that the glass and carbon fiber composites can be used as the impedance transformer (surface layer) and microwave reflector, respectively. By inserting the foam core or honeycomb core (which can be treated as an air layer) between glass and carbon fiber composites, microwave absorption above 10 dB (90% absorbance) in 4-12 GHz can be obtained. The proposed fiber composites laminates with sandwitch structure have high potential as lightweight and high strength microwave absorbers.
The plasma and microwave surface treatments of carbon nanotubes that loaded on plastic substrates were carried out with expecting a change of carbon nanotube dispersion by increasing treatment time. The microwave treatment process was undergone by commercial microwave oven (800 W). The electrical property was measured by hall measurement and resistance was increased by increasing $O_2$ flow rate of plasma, suggesting an improvement of carbon nanotube dispersion and a possibility of controlling the resistances of carbon nanotubes by plasma surface treatment. The resistance was increased in both polyethylene terephthalate and polyimide substrates by increasing $O_2$ flow rate. Resistance changes only slightly with different $O_2$ flow treatment in measure rho for all polyimide samples. Sheet resistance is lowest in polyimide substrate not due to high carbon nanotube loading but due to tendency to remain in elongated structure. $O_2$ or $N_2$ plasma treatments on both polyethylene terephthalate and polyimide substrates lead to increase in sheet resistance.
