We investigated the C-H bond activation mechanism of aldimine by the [RhCl$(PPH_3)_3$] model catalyst using DFT B3LYP//SBKJC/6-31G*/6-31G on GAMESS. Due to their potential utility in organic synthesis, C-H bond activation is one of the most active research fields in organic and organometallic chemistry. C-H bond activation by a transition metal catalyst can be classified into two types of mechanisms: direct C-H bond cleavage by the metal catalyst or a multi-step mechanism via a tetrahedral transition state. There are three structural isomers of [RhCl$(PH_3)_2$] coordinated aldimine that differ in the position of chloride with respect to the molecular plane. By comparing activation energies of the overall reaction pathways that the three isomeric structures follow in each mechanism, we found that the C-H bond activation of aldimine by the [RhCl$(PH_3)_3$] catalyst occurs through the tetrahedral intermediate.

Li-air cell is an exotic type of energy storage and conversion device considered to be half battery and half fuel cell. Its successful commercialization highly depends on the timely development of key components. Among these key components, the catalyst (i.e., the core portion of the air electrode) is of critical importance and of the upmost priority. Indeed, it is expected that these catalysts will have a direct and dramatic impact on the Li-air cell's performance by reducing overpotentials, as well as by enhancing the overall capacity and cycle life of Li-air cells. Unfortunately, the technological advancement related to catalysts is sluggish at present. Based on the insights gained from this review, this sluggishness is due to challenges in both the commercialization of the catalyst, and the fundamental studies pertaining to its development. Challenges in the commercialization of the catalyst can be summarized as 1) the identification of superior materials for Li-air cell catalysts, 2) the development of fundamental, material-based assessments for potential catalyst materials, 3) the achievement of a reduction in both cost and time concerning the design of the Li-air cell catalysts. As for the challenges concerning the fundamental studies of Li-air cell catalysts, they are 1) the development of experimental techniques for determining both the nano and micro structure of catalysts, 2) the attainment of both repeatable and verifiable experimental characteristics of catalyst degradation, 3) the development of the predictive capability pertaining to the performance of the catalyst using fundamental material properties. Therefore, under the current circumstances, it is going to be an extremely daunting task to develop appropriate catalysts for the commercialization of Li-air batteries; at least within the foreseeable future. Regardless, nano materials are expected to play a crucial role in this field.
We presented a systematic investigation on the growth of CNTs including SWNTs on nano-catalyst-embedded particles by PECVD. For CNTs growth, the mixture of $C_2H_2$ and $NH_3$ was used. The total pressure and temperature were kept at 3.25 Torr and 650 $^{\circ}C$, respectively. Finally, we measured the field emission property from CNTs grown from nano-catalyst embedded zeolite particles in vacuum chamber (<$10^{-7}$ Torr).
A facile synthesis of 4-(aminomethyl)cyclohexanecarboxylic acid (AMCA) from recyclable methyl 4-formylbenzoate (MFB) was described. In particular, we investigated the best process variables such as catalyst, hydrogen pressure, reaction temperature, and reaction time for AMCA conversion from AMBA through hydrogenation reaction. The best conditions were found to be as follows: the catalyst as [5% Pd/C, 5% Pt/C, 5% Rh/C (1 : 1 : 1)] which is a composite catalyst, the pressure as 30 bar, the reaction time as 8 hours and the reaction temperature at $130^{\circ}C$. Under the condition, a 90% yield (purity 99.9%) for the mass production of AMCA was achieved.

As a new strategy for the optimization of a chiral catalyst, the catalytic activity of the host-guest complexes of chiral bisphosphine bearing imidazolidinone was investigated in Rh-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of enamide. Marginal enhancement in enantioselectivity was observed and the nature of interaction between host-guest was experimentally elucidated.
Carbon-supported Platinum (Pt) is the potential electro-catalyst material for anodic and cathodic reactions in fuel cell. Catalytic activity of the metal strongly depends on the particle shape, size and distribution of the metal in the porous supportive network. Conventional preparation techniques based on wet impregnation and chemical reduction of the metal precursors often do not provide adequate control of particle size and shape. We have proposed a novel route for preparing nano sized Pt colloidal particles in solution by oxidation of ethylene glycol. These Pt nano particles were deposited on large surface area carbon support. The process of nano Pt colloid formation involves the oxidation of solvent ethylene glycol to mainly glycolic acid and the presence of its anion glycolate depends on the solution pH. In the process of colloidal Pt formation glycolate actsas stabilizer for the Pt colloidal particle and prevents the agglomeration of colloidal Pt particles. These mono disperse Pt particles in carbon support are found uniformly distributed in nearly spherical shape and the size distribution was narrow for both supported and unsupported metals. The average diameter of the Pt nano particle was controlled in the range off to 3 nm by optimizing reaction parameters. Transmission electron microscopy, CV and RRDE experiments were used to compliment the results.
Reverse-Water-Gas-Shift reaction (RWGSR) was carried out over the ZnO, $Al_2O_3,\;and\;ZnO/Al_2O_3$ catalysts at the temperature range from 400 to 700 ℃. The ZnO showed good specific reaction activity but this catalyst was deactivated. All the catalysts except the $ZnO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst (850 ℃) showed low stability for the RWGSR and was deactivated at the reaction temperature of 600 ℃. The $ZnO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst calcined at 850 ℃ was stable during 210 hrs under the reaction conditions of 600 ℃ and 150,000 GHSV, showing CO selectivity of 100% even at the pressure of 5 atm. The high stability of the $ZnO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst (850 ℃) was attributed to the prevention of ZnO reduction by the formation of $ZnAl_2O_4$ spinel structure. The spinel structure of $ZnAl_2O_4$ phase in the $ZnO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst calcined at 850 ℃ was confirmed by XRD and electron diffraction.

One-dimensional nanostructures have attracted increasing attention because of their unique electronic, optical, optoelectrical, and electrochemical properties on account of their large surface-to-volume ratio and quantum confinement effect. Vertically grown nanowires have a large surface-to-volume ratio. The vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) process has attracted considerable attention for its self-alignment capability during the growth of nanostructures. In this study, vertically aligned silicon oxide nano-pillars were grown on Si\$SiO_2$(300 nm)\Pt substrates using two-zone thermal chemical vapor deposition system via the VLS process. The morphology and crystallographic properties of the grown silicon oxide nano-pillars were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The diameter and length of the grown silicon oxide nano-pillars were found to be dependent on the catalyst films. The body of the silicon oxide nano-pillars exhibited an amorphous phase, which is consisted with Si and O. The head of the silicon oxide nano-pillars was a crystalline phase, which is consisted with Si, O, Pt, and Ti. The vertical alignment of the silicon oxide nano-pillars was attributed to the preferred crystalline orientation of the catalyst Pt/Ti alloy. The vertically aligned silicon oxide nano-pillars are expected to be applied as a functional nano-material.
Synergistically increased oxygen evolution reaction (OER) of manganese oxide (MnO2) catalyst is introduced with surface-modified halloysite nanotube (Fe3O4-HNTs) structure. The flake shaped MnO2 catalyst is attached on the nanotube template (Fe3O4-HNTs) by series of wet chemical and hydrothermal method. The strong interaction between MnO2 and Fe3O4-HNTs maximized active surface area and inter-connectivity for festinate charge transfer reaction for OER. The synergistical effect between Fe3O4 layer and MnO2 catalyst enhance the Mn3+/Mn4+ ratio by partial replacement of Mn ions with Fe. The relatively increased Mn3+/Mn4+ ratio on MnO2@FHNTs induced 𝜎* orbital (eg) occupation close to single electron, improving the OER performances. The MnO2@FHNTs catalyst exhibited the reduced overpotential of 0.42 V (E vs. RHE) at 10 mA/cm2 and Tafel slope of (99 mV/dec), compared with that of MnO2 with unmodified HNTs (0.65 V, 219 mV/dec) and pristine MnO2 (0.53 V, 205 mV/dec). The present study provides simple and innovative method to fabricate nano fiberized OER catalyst for a broad application of energy conversion and storage systems.
We developed new FED cathode film material that has catalysis function for graphite nano fiber. Using the cathode film with catalyst, we can simplify the FED process. It is composed of Cr, Fe-Ni catalyst. Fabricating FED panel with the film, we confirmed good emission performance of the panel.
