  • Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenolmethoxyphenyltrizine (BEMT) is one of the most widely used chemical UVA+UVB double absorbers in sunscreen products. But topical application of BEMT is restricted due to its defects in product. The purpose of this study is to adopt the sunscreen product of solid lipid nano-particles containing BEMT (BEMT-SLN). The particle diameters, the encapsulation efficiencies and the crystallization index (C.I.) are about 330nm, 93.3 % and the 4.3 %. As a result, in vitro penetration and release of BEMT were generally higher in O/W emulsion than the SLN formulation. However in vivo study, it was shown that the rate of release could be decreased by 80 % in the SLN formulation. The sun protection factor (SPF) of the SLN formulation increased by 100 % in the in vitro UV protection test. Therefore, SLN formulation potentiated the UV-blocking power of BEMT. This study suggest that SLN can be used for the encapsulation of BEMT.

  • Nano-sized mullite (3Al$_2$O$_3$$.$2SiO$_2$) colloids were prepared by use of the spray combustion method. For combustion reaction, Al(NO$_3$)$_3$$.$9$H_2O$, and CH$_{6}$N$_4$O were used as an oxidizer and a fuel respectively, and then colloidal silica was also added as 2SiO$_2$source for mullite. The temperature of the reaction chamber was kept at 80$0^{\circ}C$ to initiate the ignition of droplets of the mixed precursors. For preventing droplet coagulation, the droplet number concentration was reduced using the metal screen filter, and the residence time of aerosol was kept at 2.5 seconds for laminar flow. The synthesized colloidal particles had an uniform spherical shape with 130 nanometer size and the crystalline phase showed the mullite with stoichiometry in the observations of XRD and TEM.

  • In order to increase the electrical conductivity and the mechanical properties of carbon fabric composites, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) were deposited on carbon fabrics by anodic and cathodic electrophoretic deposition (EPD) processes. In the cathodic EPD, carbon nano-particles and nano-sized Cu particles were simultaneously deposited on the carbon fabric, which gave a synergetic effect on the enhancement of properties as well as the degree of deposition. The hybridization of carbon nano-particles and micron-sized carbon fiber significantly improved the through-the-thickness electrical conductivity. In addition, both MWCNTs and CNFs were deposited onto the carbon fabric for multi-scale hybrid composites. Multi-scale deposition improved the through-the-thickness electrical conductivity, compared to the deposition of either MWCNTs or CNFs.

  • Nano-sized ZnO colloids were prepared by use of spray combustion method. for combustion reaction, $Zn(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and $CH_6N_4O$ were employed as an oxidizer and a fuel. Exothermic peak was shown at $230^{\circ}C$ by DTA/TGA, and it was considered as a combustion reaction followed by ignition of the precursor mixture. In case of spray combustion method, because insufficient contents of molecules and radicals generated from precursor droplets may lead an incomplete igmition, the ignition temperature of combustion chamber was chosen at $500^{\circ}C$. For diminishing aerosol coagulation, the droplet number concentration was reduced by filter media. The fluid was laminar with 2.5 seconds of aerosol residence time. The synthesized colloids had spherical shape with 180 nanometer size, and the crystalline phase was ZnO with hexagonal structure.

  • The positive temperature coefficient (PTC) characteristics of polymer composites were investigated with the nano-sized carbon black particles using solution tasting and melt compounding methods. The polymeric PTC composites should the electrical threshold at 35 wt% for the melt compounding method and 40 wt% for the solution casting method. The ethylene vinylacetate copolymer (EVA) composite showed a gradual increase of resistance as a function of temperature and showed a maximum at the polymer molting point. The resistance of the high-density polythylene (HDPE) composite remains unchanged with temperature but started to Increase sharply near the melting point of HDPE and showed a maximum resistance at the melting point of HDPE. The dispersion of nano-sized carbon black particles was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and low resistance after electrical threshold, and both methods exhibited a well dispersed morphology. When the electric current was applied to the PTC composites, the resistance started increasing at the curie temperature and further increased until the trip temperature was roached. Then the resistance remained stable over the trip temperature. The secondary increase started at T$\sub$m/ of matrix polymer and kept increasing up to the trip temperature.

  • In this study, new shock absorbing system was proposed using silica gel particles according to the nano-technology. For the design and real application of the proposed damper, an experimental investigations are carried out using colloidal damper, which is statically loaded. The porous matrix is composed from silica gel(labyrinth architecture), coated by organo-silicones substances, in order to achieve a hydrophobic surface. Water is considered as associated lyophobic liquid. Reversible colloidal damper static test rig and the measuring technique of the static hysteresis were described. Iufluence of the water volume and particle diameters upon the reversible colloidal damper hysteresis was investigated. Also, influence of the relaxation time on the hysteresis of the damper was investigated. As a result, the proposed new shock absorbing damper is proved as an effective one, which can be replaced for the conventional hydraulic damper.

  • Aluminum dusts, from micro to nano-scale, are widely used in various applications such as propulsion and pyrotechnic compounds because of high burning rate. In this study, the pyrolysis hazard of aluminum dusts with different median size (sized by 70 nm, 100 nm, $6{\mu}m$, $15{\mu}m$) were investigated experimentally. The thermal decomposition characteristics of aluminum dusts with the variation of heating rate were investigated using TGA (Thermo gravimetric analysis) and was estimated the minimum ignition temperature from temperature of weight gain in nano and micro-sized aluminum dusts with different diameter. In the same condition of heating rate, the temperature of weight gain in aluminum dust layers increased with increasing of particle size and increased with increasing of heating rates in air. From the results, it was estimated that the pyrolysis hazard of aluminum dusts decrease with increasing of mean diameter.

  • In this study, the effects of Low Earth Orbit(LEO) environments on the degradation behavior of epoxy nano silica composite materials were investigated. The nanocomposite materials containing silica particles in different weight ratios of 10% and 18% were prepared and degraded in a LEO simulator to compare with the neat epoxy cases. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed on the degraded nanocomposites and the activation energies were calculated by Friedman method, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) method, Kissinger method, and DAEM (Distributed Activation Energy Method) based on the iso-conversional method. As the results, for the neat epoxy sample cases, it was found that the average activation energy was increased as the degradation was progressed. When the nano particles were mixed, however, the energy increased to the 15 environmental test cycles, and decreased afterwards, meaning that the particle mixture contributed adversely to the thermal degradation. Discussions on the results of the different calculation methods were also given.

  • This study shows an experimental investigation of a reversible nano colloidal damper, which is statically loaded. The porous matrix is composed from silica gel (labyrinth or central-cavity architecture), coated by organo-silicones substances, in order to achieve a hydrophobic surface. Water is considered as associated lyophobic liquid. Reversible colloidal damper static test rig and the measuring technique of the static hysteresis are described. Influence of the pore and particle diameters, particle architecture and length of the grafted molecule upon the reversible colloidal damper hysteresis is investigated, for distinctive types and mixtures of porous matrices. Variation of the reversible colloidal damper dissipated energy and efficiency with temperature, pressure, is illustrated. As a result, he proposed nano damper is effective one, which can be replaced the conventional damper.
