The purpose of this study is to interpret the visual and auditory images and cognitive characteristics about townscapes in Namwon city. It was acquired the survey results about 8 types of verbal interviews and 2 kinds of sketch maps which are based on urban images from 102 Namwon residents. They held in a variety of images of Namwon in their minds such as Jiri mountain, clean environment, sightseeing, special products, urban/building structures, Korean classical music, historical novel, local sports, and emotional images. The nice streets or places which the residents recommended are the places which have abundant natural areas, psychological peace and rest, available space for physical activity, places for performances and events, and regional attractions. The streets or places which they didn't like are decadent places, and areas of crowded traffic. The transition times of visual and auditory scene can be classified with the Saemaul movement in the 1970's(the rural new community movement) and the improvement of the city in the 1990's. The elements of visual images in Namwon city on the basis of the cognitive maps were expressed such elements as paths, districts, nodes, edges, and landmarks. The elements of auditory images, which are on the basis of the concept of the soundscape, included sounds of narrative musical form unique to Korea; p'ansori, sounds of traditional markets, and sounds of nature. It was found that the imageability of visual and auditory images is relatively clear in specific areas in Namwon city.
The Yocheon is an upper stream of Sumjin river, passing through Namwon city. The water temperature of the stream increases from upper stream to downstream. The amount of COD, T-P, T-N, EC, TDS abruptly increases at measuring site 8. Whereas, the pH and DO level abruptly decreases at this site. At this point, the Yocheon river joins another small stream passing through the central part of Namwon city. At a further downstream pass site 8, the amount of COD on April and June (a dry season) is on third grade of water quality for lacustrine. This contamination suggests that sewage from the Namwon city provide COD, T-N, T-P into the stream. At point 2, the high amount of T-N indicates that the upper stream is contaminated by agricultural activity.

The purpose of this study is to interpret the evaluation structure of auditory images about streetscapes in urban area on the basis of the semantic view of soundscapes. Using the caption evaluation method. which is a new method, from 2001 to 2005, a total of 45 college students participated in a fieldwork to find out the images of sounds while walking on the main streets of Namwon city. It was able get various data which include elements, features, impressions, and preferences about auditory scene. In Namwon city, the elements of the formation of auditory images are classified into natural sound and artificial sound which include machinery sounds, community sounds. and signal sounds. Also, the features of the auditory scene are classified by kind of sound, behavior, condition, character, relationship of circumference and image. Finally, the impression of auditory scene is classified into three categories, which are the emotions of humans, atmosphere of the streets, and the characteristics of the sound itself. From the relationship between auditory scene and estimation, the elements, features and impressions of auditory scene consist of the items which are positive, neutral, and negative images. Also, it was able to grasp the characteristics of auditory image of place or space through the evaluation model of streetscapes in Namwon city.
The tomb is an important clue for understanding the ancient society of Namwon (南原). In order to establish local identity through the burial mounds and appropriately preserve and utilize it, basic investigation should be conducted to grasp the current situation of the burials. Additionally, excavation surveys and research are needed to understand the nature of the tombs. Based on this activity, local people should be informed about the importance of the tombs and participate in the preservation and utilization activities together. Preservation and utilization should be of the complex type. However, it should be improved systematically based on the fact that the tombs have not been properly investigated. In order to do this, the related organizations and budgets should be allocated at all times in Namwon City.
This study was carried out to investigate the composition of soil microarthropods in pasture at the Unbong Area, to fulfil this purpose, samples were taken from National livestock research institute Namwon branch from 24. June, 1998 to 18. Setember. The results of this study were as follow. Collembola was hight in cattle and goat pasture, and Acarina was hight in wild and gathering pasture. Oribated mites were also hight in wild and gathering pasture more than cattle and goat pasture. Oribatid mites as a vectors of cestodes were identified 7 species of Carabodes peniculatus, Carabodes sp., Scheloribates laevigatus, Scheloribates latipes, Scheloribates rigidisetosus, Galumna cuneata and Galumna sp. This study was conducted to develop a large scale map of species-specific plantation sites based on selected environmental variables such as topography, soil, and climatic factors in Namwon city. Site index equations by tree species were first regressed to 27 environmental variables that could influence the productivity of forest sites using digital forest site maps, digital climate maps, and the 5th National Forest Inventory data. Site index equations by tree species were all evaluated to estimate site productivity using 4-5 environmental variables, and the models' reliability was confirmed based on evaluation statistics. The determination coefficients of site index equations by species ranged from 0.42 to 0.76. With the site index equations, the site conditions appropriate for productive sites by species were considered to assess spatial distribution of productive areas for each species. The final map for optimal plantation in Namwon city was produced based on both site index equations and site conditions appropriate for productive sites by each species using GIS technique. Field survey was conducted to evaluate the suitability of selected species on the map of species-specific plantation sites. Results showed that the plantation map provides relatively reasonable spatial distribution of productive areas for selected species. It was revealed, however, that the sites evaluated as 'not suitable' for any tree species should be revised and complemented with additional information, especially with the site conditions appropriate for productive sites by species of interest. The outcomes of this study are expected to provide information for making customized species-specific plantation maps.
This study aims to find out the genetic characteristics of gridded subdivision area which has its origin from ancient local administrative city-Sangju, Jeonju, Namwon, Kwangju, Chungju. The spatial structure, based on the inter-relationship among gridded subdivision area, city wall, and topographic condition, and the morphological characteristics of gridded subdivision area are analyzed. The points of analysis on morphological characteristics of gridded subdivision area consist of the size of unit block, the organization system of unit block, the orientation of subdivision line. As a result of the analysis, three main characteristics are found. Firstly there can be found no same land subdivision rule among study areas. Secondly, the morphological features of study area were the products of cumulative process of different subdivision areas which were developed in different periods. Thirdly, the original regular gridded land subdivision seems to have been carried out in the object of a farm-land cultivation around 7th century. And there was a change of land-use from farm land to urban land-use during the later 7th century and 8th century.
This study was carried out for the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in obese middle school students. The subjects were 104 obese adolescents of 4 middle schools in Namwon city, Jeonbuk. Average age of the subjects was 12.2 years old, BMI of mild obesity group, moderate obesity group and severe obesity group were 24.6kg/m2, 27.5kg/m2, and 31.8 kg/m2, respectively. Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in obese students was 2.9%. And the person who has more than 2 out of 5 symptoms was 22.1%, and more than 1 was 39.4%. The prevalence of each symptoms were abdomen obesity(46.2%), hyper triglyceride(23.1%), high blood pressure(20.2%), high HDLcholesterol(2.9%), but the hyper glycemia had not been found. Nutrient intakes of 3 groups were not significantly different, energy was 1817.9kcal, carbohydrate was 265.7g, protein was 72.2g, and fat was 51.9g. Nutrient adequacy ratio(NAR) of protein, phosphorus, iron, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B1, niacin, vitamin C was proper, except calcium. Seventy point two percent of the obese students knew 'obesity is a disease', and 49.0% of the subjects didn't know the complication of the obesity. Only 27.9% of the obese adolescents took nutrition education class, but 51.9% of them thought nutrition education was necessary. We suggest that the nation enforce the policy for early detection and treatment of obesity for adolescents. Obese students and their parents should take nutrition education.
The purpose of this study is to make a proposal for the planning of the back-to-farming community village. For this study of a community village designed by residents, the information on the residents' participation and the role of a coordinator in the whole planning process of the community village were investigated, based on the rural village development policy. The community village studied here is located at Sannae-myeon, Namwon-city in Jeonbuk-do. Interviews were answered by 17 households and a process coordinator. The results are as follows. 1) The process coordinator participated in the project on the design of village, permission documentation, and construction from the beginning. The coordinator and residents met every month, and discussed the respective housing and the village environment regulation. 2) Every house has its own plan, but the architectural coordinator's counseling and coordination in the planning process resulted in higher participation. Function of common spaces were determined by residents' participation. Finally, common spaces consist of 2 buildings that one would have as much as open spaces to accommodate as many as residents' activities and the other have business facilities. 3) The political assistance is needed to activate construction of resident-participation typed community villages; development of the conflict coordination program and coordinator education program for operation & planning.
