  • An EOTS (Electro-Optical Tracking System) provides stabilized images while tracking a moving target. This paper presents a novel concept of driving the outer gimbal first for improving the maneuverability of an EOTS, contrary to the conventional inner gimbal mode. It has the advantages of faster positioning performance and stable operation in Nadir-point. Analysis of frequency responses reveal that the present scheme results in a wider control bandwidth and larger gain margin, compared to those of the previous one. The actual experimental results confirm that the maneuvering is stable although the input command has a large angular acceleration.

  • KOMPSAT-1 AOCS mode divided into three major mode like Sun, Maneuver, Science Mode. The Maneuver mode consist of attitude hold and Δ-V Burn submode. This paper focus on the analysis of AOCS Maneuver Mode characteristics based on on-orbit playback data. The nadir pointing performance of attitude hold submode and the process for Δ-V Burn firing with plus/ minus 90 degree pitch/ roll maneuvering was verified. And also verified that the on-orbit performance meets the AOCS subsystem specification as designed.

  • Background: There were several studies comparing prognostic factors in Guillain-Barre syndrome treated with intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapheresis. However, there were controversies in what were significant factors and there were few studies so far comparing the therapeutic outcomes in patients treated with immunoglobulin. This study was aimed to determine the prognostic factors which affected the therapeutic outcome of Guillain-Barre syndrome treated with intravenous immunoglobulin. Method: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome admitted to our hospital between January 1999 and March 2004. All patients were treated with intravenous immunoglobulin. Outcome and prognosis were followed up after four weeks using the overall disability sum score. Results: Thirty-six patients were enrolled in this study. According to the clinical and electrophysiological findings, 17 patients were AIDP, 10 were axonal forms, two were mixed and seven had electrophysiologically no evidence of abnormalities. At a follow-up of four weeks, disabilities at the nadir (p<0.001) and admission (P<0.012), initial manifestations of bulbar symptom (P<0.024) and electrodiagnostic features (P<0.013) were significantly correlated with outcome in patients treated with intravenous immunoglobulin. But only disabilities at the nadir (P<0.033) and electrodiagnostic features (P<0.018) were significant in the multivariate logistic regression analysis. Conclusion: Among the patient treated with intravenous immunoglobulin, the outcomes were significantly different according to the neurological status at the nadir. Therefore early diagnosis, administration of intravenous immunoglobulin and preventing complications during acute stages are essential to minimize neurological deficit and shorten the periods of recovery.

  • Since multi-view images can be utilized for 3D visualization and surveying as well, a system calibration is an essential procedure. The cameras in the system are mounted to the holder and their locations and attitudes are relatively fixed. Therefore, the locations and the attitudes of the perspective centers of the four oblique looking cameras can be calculated using the location and attitude of the nadir looking camera and the boresight values between the cameras. In this regard, this research is focusing on the analysis of the relative location and attitude between the nadir and oblique looking cameras based on the results of the exterior orientation parameters after the aerial triangulation of the real multiview images. We acquired high standard deviations of the relative locations between the nadir and oblique cameras. Standard deviations of the relative attitudes between the cameras were low when only the exterior orientations of the oblique looking cameras were allowed to be adjusted. Moreover, low standard deviations of the relative attitudes came when we considered not all the exterior orientations of the cameras but the attitudes of them only.

  • Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) has been developed by Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) since 2003. Ocean Color Imager (OCI) is the one of COMS payloads, which will monitor the marine environment around Korean peninsula routinely with the intermediate resolution. But considering COMS is to be located in the geostationary orbit, required geographical coverage is not positioned in the nadir direction of COMS but in specific location with horizontal and vertical offsets from the nadir. In this study, coverage by OCI Field Of View (FOV) is analyzed. First of all, OCI is modeled as the sensor which is a $2,500{\times}2,500$ sized 2-D CCD and the pixel resolution is about 500m. And then, OCI is simulated to be controlled to target the required coverage accurately. As a result of it, coverage by OCI FOV is determined. Finally, all coverages by OCI FOV are mapped.

  • The radiance observed from the ocean depends on the illumination and viewing geometry along with the water properties, and this variation is called the bidirectional effect which is important to be considered in ocean color remote sensing. In the present study, as a preliminary step, the spectral-angular radiances in coastal water were investigated with experiments for a range of viewing geometric conditions $(0-70^{\circ})$. Over a phytoplankton-dominated water surface the upward radiance for visible and near-infrared wavelengths (example, SeaWiFS and GOCI) increased at nadir and decreased toward the near-horizon, becoming dependent of viewing angles (with higher radiance at nadir view angle and lower radiance at near-horizon viewing angle). This variations were better expressed by the Q-factor, which relates upwelling radiance to the upwelling irradiance (i.e., $Q=E_u/L_u$, also dependent on Sun's position). The Q-factor for this case was more non-uniform with the considered wavelengths and was dependent on viewing geometric conditions. These experimental results confirm the previous similar findings in other coastal waters.

  • Irradiation is widely used for the treatment of malignant diseases, and possibly cause the osteoporosis. The densitometry and bone scintigraphy are valuable when used to monitor the patients longitudinally to access the progression of osteoporosis and risk of osteoradionecrosis. To evaluate the osteoporosis after irradiation of Cobalt-60 gamma ray on the lumbar spines of New Zealand white rabbits, bone densitometry by dual photon absorptiometry and bone scintigraphy were performed weekly. The decrease of bone density began at the first week after irradiation, and were in the nadir at 4-6th week. The osteoblastic activity measured by bone scintigraphy decreased in the first week, and was in the nadir at 4-6th week. The severity of these changes were related to the radiation dose. In conclusion, the osteoporosis before the presentation of the osteoradionecrosis can be diagnosed early with the dual photon absorptionmetry and bone scintigraphy.

  • In this paper, we propose a comprehensive geometric correction algorithm of Along Track Scanning Radiometer(ATSR) images. The procedure consists of two cascaded modules; precorrection and fine co-location. The pre-correction algorithm is based on the navigation model which was derived in mathematical forms. This model was applied for correction raw(un-geolocated) ATSR images. The non-systematic geometric errors are also introduced as the limitation of the geometric correction by this analytical method. A fast and automatic algorithm is also presented in the paper for co-locating nadir and forward views of the ATSR images by using a binary cross-correlation matching technique. It removes small non-systematic errors which cannot be corrected by the analytic method. The proposed algorithm does not require any auxiliary informations, or a priori processing and avoiding the imperfect co-registratio problem observed with multiple channels. Coastlines in images are detected by a ragion segmentation and an automatic thresholding technique. The matching procedure is carried out with binaty coastline images (nadir and forward), and it gives comparable accuracy and faster processing than a patch based matching technique. This technique automatically reduces non-systematic errors between two views to .$\pm$ 1 pixel.

  • In this paper, we propose a PRF design method to improve the performance of the ESA radar, by excluding the interference from an improper PRF. Like the conventional method, the proposed method also considers the interference between the transmitted signal and the nadir signal, but additionally analyzes the relationship between the interference and the signal beamwidth. The simulation results show that the proposed method quantitatively and qualitatively excluded interference from the PRF and additionally dealt with the beamwidth broadening effect of an ESA radar.
