The Optical Properties of $ZnS/Na_3AlF_6$ Multi-layer Thin Films with Different Optical Thickness ($ZnS/Na_3AlF_6$ 다층박막의 광학적 두께 변화에 따른 광특성)

  • $ZnS/Na_3AlF_6$ multi-layer thin film were produced by evaporation system. ZnS were selected as a high refractive index material and $Na_3AlF_6$ were selected as low refractive index material. Optical properties including color effect were systematically studied in terms of different optical thickness by spectrophotometer. In oder to compare with experimental data, the Essential Macleod Program(EMP) was adopted that simulation program. The thin film consisting of $ZnS/Na_3AlF_6$ multi-layer show the wave length of $530{\sim}600nm$, typically color range between purple, blue, green. It was confirmed that this experimental result was well matched with simulation data.

The Quantitative Evaluation of Cardiac Calcification Using 18F-Sodium fluoride PET/CT (18F-Sodium fluoride PET 이용한 심장 석회화 정량평가에 대한 고찰)

  • Purpose Although computed tomography (CT) is used for coronary artery calcification, it is difficult to differentiate between high risk microcalcifications. Studies have shown that $^{18}F$-sodium fluoride ($^{18}F-NaF$) is very useful for the diagnosis of microcalcifications. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the usefulness of $^{18}F-NaF$ PET imaging in quantitative evaluation of calcification. Materials and Methods A total of 45 patients ($67.1{\pm}6.9years\;old$) were injected with 250 MBq of $^{18}F-NaF$ for 1 hour and images were acquired for 30 minutes. All patients underwent CT angiography (CTAngiography, CTA) before the PET scan. The SUVmax of calcification was measured and the background radioactivity of the left atrium was measured to determine Target to Background (TBR) and quantitatively analyzed. High risk group was classified through ROC curve (Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve). Results There were 226 coronary artery calcifications in the cohort and SUVmax was $1.15{\pm}0.39$. Of the 28 patients (62%), 58 were classified as high risk (TBR > 1.25). The remaining 168 were $TBR{\leq}1.25$. Conclusion $^{18}F-NaF$ PET images were available for quantitative assessment of microcalcifications and could be classified into high-risk groups. The combination of angiographic CT and $^{18}F-NaF$ PET may be a new method for early diagnosis of high-risk microcalcifications.

Establishment of automated manufacturing system for high-purity [18F]Sodium fluoride: 3-year production experience

  • A bone metastasis is an important factor for prognosis and treatment of breast or prostate cancer patients. [$^{18}F$]Sodium fluoride ([$^{18}F$]NaF) is a PET radiopharmaceutical that can detect bone metastasis. Conventional [$^{18}F$]NaF production process included radioactive metal impurities because the product was prepared by adding saline after beam irradiation to $[^{18}O]H_2O$. In this study, we apply the method of removing radionuclidic impurities. To meet the criteria prescribed by GMP in quality control, we designed the custom-made [$^{18}F$]NaF automatic module. The mean radiochemical yield was $82.1{\pm}4.4%$ (n = 32) productions for 3 years) and the total preparation time was 4 min. The final produced [$^{18}F$]NaF solution meets the USP criteria for quality control. Thus, this fully automated system is validated for clinical use.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of gargling solution with 0.05% NaF and 10% Xylitol in orthodontic patients with fixed appliance. The sample consisted of 20 patients who were classified into an experimental group and a control group, 10 patients each. Experimental group was used experimental gargling solution and the control group was used with placebo solution. The change of S. mutans was analysed by culture on MSB and BHI agar plate pre and post 3, 6, 9 weeks. The results were as follows. 1 There were significant reduction in the number of S. mutans C.F.U. between pre and post 3 weeks(p<0.01), 9 weeks(p<0.05) in experimental group 2. There were significant reduction in the ratio of S. mutans C.F.U. to total C.F.U. between pre and post 3, 6, 9 weeks(p<0.01) in experimental group. 3. S. mutans, which were reduced until 3 weeks, did not show significant change after 3, 6, 9 weeks. 4. S. mutans were strongly suppressed until 3 weeks after gargling solution with 0.05% NaF and 10% Xylitol.

Thermal dehydration tests of FLiNaK salt for thermal-hydraulic experiments

  • Fluoride-salt-cooled High-temperature Reactor (FHR) is a promising nuclear reactor technology. Among many challenges presented by the molten fluoride salts is the corrosion of salt-facing structural components. Higher moisture contents, in the FLiNaK (LiF-NaF-KF, 46.5-11.5-42 mol%) salt, aggravate intergranular corrosion and pitting for the given alloys. Therefore, several thermal dehydration tests of FLiNaK salt were performed with a batch size suitable for thermal-hydraulic experiments. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) was performed for the three constituent fluoride salts individually. Preliminary thermal dehydration plans were then proposed for NaF and KF salts based on the TGA curves. However, the dehydration process may not be required for LiF since its low mass loss (<1.3 wt%). To evaluate the performance of these thermal dehydration plans, a batch-scale salt dehydration test facility was designed and constructed. The preliminary thermal dehydration plans were tested by varying the heating rates, target temperature, and holding time. The sample mass loss data showed that the high temperatures (>500 ℃) were necessary to remove a significant amount of moisture (>1 wt%) from NaF salt, while relatively low temperatures (around 300 ℃) with a long holding time (>10 h) were sufficient to remove most of the moisture from KF salt.

  • Each parching Anemarrhenae Rhizoma with 25% ethanol and normal saline has been used for anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antipyretic, sedative and diuretic, and so on. In order to investigate the differences of referential efficacy about each fractionated part of the aqueous extracts, pharmacological studies were carried out. The results of studies were summerized as follows : 1. By the administration of 25% ethanol treated preparation (F-I-1), the increase in urinary volume and $Na^+$ extraction was significantly recognized. 2. The excretion of electrolyte $Na^+$ by saline solution treated preparation (F-II-1) was significantly recognised in normal rats. 3. The increase of urinary volume and urinary $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ excretion by F-I-1 and n-butanol insoluble parts of F-I-1 (F-I-3) was significantly recognized in $HgCl_2-induced$ acute renal failure of rats. 4. The increase of plasma $Na^+$ by F-I-1 and urea nitrogen by F-I-1 and F-I-3 in acute renal failure of rats was significantly recognized. 5. The increase of urinary volume by F-I-1 and F-I-3 was recognised in mice.

Changes in Serum Lipid Components and Blood Glucose by Krill (Euphausia superba) Meal and NaF in Rats (크릴 분말 및 NaF 첨가 식이가 흰쥐의 혈청 지질성분 및 혈당 변동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to examine the changes in serum lipid components and blood glucose by krill (Euphausia superba) meal and sodium fluoride (NaF) in rats fed on experimental diets and administered orally to NaF 10 mg for 5 weeks. Body weight of rats decreased as the amount of krill meal diet increased, it was observed the basal diet plus NaF group (BF group) compared to the lower basal diet group (BD group). The serum concentrations of total cholesterol, LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, free cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), phospholipid (PL) and blood glucose in serum were higher in the BF group than the 10% krill meal group plus NaF 10 mg (KF10 group) or BD group, the 20% krill meal plus NaF 10 mg group (KF20 group), the 30% krill meal plus NaF 10 mg group (KF30 group). Conversely depending on the content of krill meal for the HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol level, it showed higher results. The concentration of total protein was no significant difference among the groups (p<0.05). The results indicate that a krill meal diet effectively inhibited increases in lipid elevation and blood glucose level in the sera of rats.

Influences of the BUN and Creatinine Level by Krill (Euphausia superba) Meal and NaF Administration in Rats (Krill 분말 및 NaF 투여가 흰쥐의 BUN 및 Creatinine 농도에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the hematology and serum chemistry values on Sprague-Dawley rats, used krill (Euphausia superba) meal diet and sodium fluoride (NaF) for 5 weeks. Seven-week-old male rats were divided into five groups and fed experimental diets containing three krill meal contents, administrated orally 10 mg of NaF, basal diet group (BG), basal diet plus 10 mg of NaF group (BFG), 10.0% krill meal plus 10 mg of NaF group (KMF10), 20.0% krill meal plus 10 mg of NaF group (KMF20), and 30.0% krill meal plus 10 mg of NaF group (KMF30). Concentrations of non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine in sera were significantly lower in the KMF10, KMF20, KMF30 than BFG (p<0.05). In uric acid concentration KMF10 showed no significant difference with the BFG group, was significantly lower than KMF20 and KMF30 (p<0.05). Total calcium (T-Ca) concentrations was all observed to be no significant difference, was increased with krill meal content (p<0.05). Phosphorus (Pi) concentration was no change in the content of krill meal. Accordingly, krill meal was considered to be effective in improving NEFA and BUN, creatinine, uric acid concentration.

흡착물에 의한 지르칼로이의 산화형태

  • 공기중에서 천이점 이후까지 산화된 지르칼로이 시편에 LiF, NaF, KF, NnCl, 그리고 LiOH 등을 흡착시켜 산화실험을 수행하였다. NaF, KF, NaCl을 흡착시킨 시편의 산화가 두드러지게 많이 됨을 확인할 수 있었다. LiF, LiOH를 흡착한 시편은 흡착하지 않은 시편과 큰 차이를 보이지 않고 산화가 진행되었다. 이는 Li의 전분이 초기에 산화막을 형성한 fresh 시편과는 달리 충분히 산화가 진행되어서 초기산화막의 존재가 없는 상태에서 흡착되었기 때문에 흡착의 효과가 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다고 사료된다. 이러한 결과를 이용하여 사용 후 핵연료의 보관시 안전성의 문제, 그리고 DUPIC 핵연료의 제작시에 이용될 수 있는 반복적 산화 환원의 방식에 적용될 수 있다.

Factors Affecting Reactivity of Various Phenolic Compounds with the Folin-Ciocalteu Reagent (다양한 페놀성 물질과 Folin-Ciocalteu 시약의 반응성에 미치는 영향 요인 평가)

  • The Folin-Ciocalteu (F-C) reagent has been extensively used for quantifying total phenolic contents in many different types of food materials. Since several different procedures of the assay methods using the F-C reagent have been applied, we investigated changes in reactivity of various phenolic compounds with the F-C reagent under three different assay conditions and factors affecting reactivity. Among 10 standard compounds tested, compounds with high hydroxyl density (number of -OH/molecular weight) showed a largely different response according to addition sequence of the F-C reagent or $Na_2CO_3$. Preincubation in $Na_2CO_3$ significantly reduced the reactivity of the phenolic compounds bearing galloyl moiety (e.g. gallic acid, tannic acid, and epigallocatechin-3-gallate) with the F-C reagent, while monophenol compounds including ferulic acid and sinapinic acid were more stable as compared to diphenols. There was little change in response to the F-C reagent of all phenolic compounds incubated in acidic pH; their reactivity except ferulic acid was reduced significantly when incubated in neutral or alkaline pH. Changes in reactivity of gallic acid incubated in $Na_2CO_3$ or neutral/alkaline pH conditions were the most prominent. $H_2O_2$ generated from phenolic compounds did not affect the reaction with the F-C reagents. The present results suggest that reactivity of different phenolic compounds with F-C reagent was affected considerably by different procedures of the assay, and the total phenolic contents could be fluctuated according to standard compounds and assay scheme.
