A Study on the Electrical Circuit Model of the Electrode/Electrolyte Interface for Improving Electrochemical Impedance Fitting (전기화학적 임피던스 Fitting 개선을 위한 전극/전해질 계면의 전기회로 모델 연구)

  • Exact impedance modeling of the electrode/electrolyte interface is important in bio-signal sensing electrode development. Therefore, the investigation of the equivalent circuit models for the interface has been pursued for a long time by several researchers. Previous circuit models fit the experimental results in limited conditions such as frequency range, type of electrode, or electrolyte. This paper describes a new electrical circuit model and its capability of fitting the experimental results. The proposed model consists of three resistors and two constant phase elements. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to characterize the interface for Au, Pt, and stainless steel electrode in 0.9% NaCl solution. Both the proposed model and the previous model were applied to fit the measured impedance results for comparison. The proposed model fits the experimental data more accurately than other models especially at the low frequency range, and it enables us to predict the impedance at very low frequency range, including DC, using the proposed model.

  • Type strain, Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b, was used to convert methane to methanol. To prevent further oxidation of methanol, NaCl and EDTA were used as inhibitors of methanol dehydrogenase. The reaction temperature was $25^{\circ}C$, and the concentrations of cell and sodium formate added to the reaction mixture were 0.6 mg dry cell wt/ml and 20 mM, respectively. During 12hr reaction, 8 mM methanol was accumulated in the reaction mixture. In this reaction $K_m$ and $V_{max}$ values were found to be 532.6 mM and 1.749 mmol/hr, respectively, and the conversion rate was approximately 37%. To increase the concentration of methanol in the medium, a repeated batch reaction was carried out. In this process, methane was injected every eight hours, and the produced methanol concentration was 18 mM.

  • CuO is an important transition metal oxide with many practical applications such as catalysts, p-type semiconductor, solar cells, magnetic storage media and cathode materials. In this contribution, nanocrystalline CuO powders were prepared by solution reduction method using copper chloride ($CuCl_{2}{\cdot}2H_{2}O$), hydrazine ($N_{2}H_{4}$) and NaOH and subsequent heat treatment. The gas sensor using nanocrystalline CuO powders showed high sensitivities to acetone and ethanol.

  • Analysis of quinidine for fish tissues using single drop microextraction (SDME) coupled with atmospheric pressure matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (AP-MALDI-MS) are reported. Optimization conditions; such as extraction solvent, extraction time, pH of the aqueous solution, salt additions (NaCl), stirring rate, matrix type and concentration are investigated. Linear dynamic range (${\mu}M$), limit of detection, relative recovery%, and enrichment factor are 0.08-9.2, 0.05, $94.8{\pm}3.1-98.5{\pm}3.3%$, $4.34{\pm}0.28-4.40{\pm}0.30$, respectively. SDME-AP-MALDI-MS shows good intraday and interday reproducibility.

  • Jeotgal fermentation is dependent upon a diverse microbial community, although a detailed understanding of its microbial composition is limited to a relatively small number of jeotgal. Pyrosequencing-based bacterial community analysis was performed in fermented squid, ojingeo jeotgal. Leuconostoc was identified as the predominant bacterial genus, with Bacillus and Staphylococcus also accounting for a large proportion of the bacterial community. Phylogenetic analysis with 16S rRNA genes of Leuconostoc type species indicated that L. citreum- and L. holzapfelii-like strains could be the major Leuconostoc strains in jeotgal. High concentrations of NaCl were thought to be an important factor determining the makeup of the bacterial community in the fermented squid; however, a genomic survey with osmotic stress-related genes suggests the existence of more complex factors selecting the dominant bacterial species in fermented squid.

  • The synthesis of pure calcium carbonate nanocrystals was achieved using a simultaneous injection method to produce nano particles of uniform size. These were characterized using scanning electron microscopy and powder X-ray diffraction. The nano particles were needle-shaped aragonite polymorphs, approximately 100-200 nm in length. The aragonite polymorph of calcium carbonate was prepared using aqueous solutions of $CaCl_2$ and $Na_2CO_3$, which were injected simultaneously into double distilled water at $50^{\circ}C$ and then allowed to react for 1.5 h. The resulting whisker-type nano aragonite with high aspect ratio (30) is biocompatible and potentially suitable for applications in light weight plastics, as well as in the medical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and paint industries.

  • The main objectives of this study are develop an Electro-Chemical process for dyeing wastewater treatment. In this work, We are investigated to optimization of electro-chemical process condition such as pH, additives(NaCl), reaction time, current density. As a result, About 89% of color(influent 452.5 ptco. unit) was removed by Electro-Chemical process using type C $SnO_2$ electrode. This results are promising potential for dyeing wastewater treatment.

Isolation and Its Optimal Culture Condition for High Agarase-Producing Mutant (한천분해효소의 고생산성 변이주의 분리 및 최적배양조건)

  • A marine bacterium Bacillus cereus ASK202, agarase producing strain, was treated with some mutagenic agents, ultraviolte(UV), 1-methyl-3-nitro-1-nitrosoguanidine(NTG), and ethyl methane sulfonate(EMS), several times for the increasing of the agarase production After mutagen treatment, we isolated one mutant strain treated with NTG showed the highest stability and agarase productivity and named as Bacillus cereus ASK202-N3. This Bacillus cereus ASK202-N3 strain was well grown in the modified marine medium containing 0.5%(w/v) agar, 0.3%(w/v) yeast extract, and 5.0%(w/v) NaCl, and the optimal initial pH, temperature and culture time were 7.8, $25^{\circ}C$ and 32h, respectively. In the optimal culture conditions, the agarase production was increased to 5.3 fold(850units/L) compared to that of the wild type.

  • Several sensors are involved in the cor개sion monitoring of concrete structures. This paper deals with the monitoring of concrete structures by embeddable reference sensors. $MnO_2$, MMO and graphite reference sensors are fabricated in the laboratory as suitable as embeddable type into the concrete structures. Sensors are embedded into the mortars and the performance was studied in the absence and presence of chloride ions. The electrochemical stability of the sensors was carried out for the exposure period of one year. Polarisation behaviour and impedance of the sensors in mortar was carried out in three aqueous solutions namely distilled water, 3% NaCl and natural sea water.

  • The Samhwa iron ore deposit, which is of typical magnetite skarn type, is located in the Samhwadong area of Donghae city, Kangwon-do, Korea. Skarn minerals are mainly composed of garnet, clinopyroxene, vesuvianite, wollastonite and small amounts of epidote and quartz. The garnets are isotropic $(Ad_{92.82{\sim}98.37})$ or anisotropic andradite $(Ad_{45.30{\sim}75.85})$ and grossular $(Gr_{86.26{\sim}24.47})$, the clinopyroxenes are ferrosalite and salite, Homogenization temperature of gas rich two phase inclusions in garnet are $368{\sim}593^{\circ}C$, and salnities of polyphase inclusions in garnet have 33.9~68.4 equ. NaCl wt. %. Garnet grain often shows composional variation from its core to rim. In other words, Fe and Al contents in garnet vary inversely, which suggest that the variation depends upon $f_{o2}$ during skarn formation.
