  • Isogeometric concept is introduced to carry out free vibration analysis of plane structures. The geometry of structures is represented by using non-uniform rational B-spline surface (NURBS) and its basis function is consistently used in the formulation of plane stress element. In addition, multi-patch strategy is introduced to deal with the openings in building. The performance of the present isogeometric plane stress element is investigated by using five numerical examples. From numerical results, it is found to be that the isogeometric concept can successfully identify reliable natural frequencies and associated mode shapes of plane structures with/without openings in efficient way.

  • This paper analyzes the problems that occurred in the magnification process for a fine input image and investigates a method to improve the problems. This paper applies a curve interpolation algorithm in CAD/CAM for the same test images with the existing image algorithm in order to improve the problems. As a result. the nearest neighbor interpolation. which is the most frequently applied algorithm for the existing image interpolation algorithm. shows that the identification of a magnified image is not possible. Therefore. this study examines an interpolation of gray-level data by applying a low-pass spatial filter and verifies that a bilinear interpolation presents a lack of property that accentuates the boundary of the image where the image is largely changed. The periodic B-spline interpolation algorithm used for curve interpolation in CAD/CAM can remove the blurring but shows a problem of obscuration, and the Ferguson's curve interpolation algorithm shows a more sharpened image than that of the periodic B-spline algorithm. For the future study, hereafter. this study will develop an interpolation algorithm that has an excel lent improvement for the boundary of the image and continuous and flexible property by using the NURBS. Ferguson's complex surface. and Bezier surface used in CAD/CAM engineering based on. the results of this study.

  • The R-adaptivity method to the shell surface which is presented by the NURBS is proposed. The r-adaptiivty method , given by Liao and Anderson〔2〕, aggregate the grid in the region where is relatively high weight function without any grid-tanggling. In numerical examples, the strain energy error estimate of shell in the whole domain can be reduced effectively by using applied r- adaptivity method mesh.

  • In this paper, a novel approach which enables rapid die surface modification for sheet metal forming process is proposed. In this method an implicit surface which interpolates a given set of control points and displacement constraints is generated to compute the displacements at arbitrary points located on die surface. The proposed method does not depend on the underlying surface representation type and is affected neither by its complexity nor by its quality. In addition, the domain decomposition method is introduced in order to treat large surface model. The global domain of interest is divided into smaller domains where the problem can be solved locally. And then the local solutions are combined together to obtain a global solution. In order to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, various surface modifications are carried out fur three kinds of die surface model including polygonal surface composed of triangular and rectangular meshes, polynomial surface and NURBS surface.

  • For products of various shapes, compound surfaces are used. Blending surfaces are essential to the products of the compound surfaces. In this paper a method of making shape of blending surface flexible with parameter control is discussed. The parameter has quantitative control of shape of the blend. The blending surface is applied to NURBS and simple primitives in solid model. Intersection curves of surfaces is used to provide the blend with generality. Rail curve are found with the intersection curves. The blend is generated by rail curves and parameter control. Also, In strict constraint condition, blending surface with flexible shapes is discussed, keeping ;${GC}^1$ and ;${GC}^2$ continuity between free-formed surfaces and solids. Joining blending ,bridge blending and blending surface at corner are generated.

  • In the process of car body design, various surfaces are generated from the given boundary curves. Depending upon the method of the surface generation and the quality of the boundary curves provided, the resulting surfaces may have global or local irregularities in many cases. Thus it would be necessary for the designer to evaluate the surface quality and to modify the surface or to use the different generation method based on the evaluation results. This capability is very important because the defect of the surface quality detected in the production stage will require the rework of the dies and will cause a big loss in cost and time. A method of surface interrogation using reflection line is introduced. In this paper, We applied reflection mapping to generate reflection lines on the trimmed NURBS surface. Since reflection lines are obtained from reflection mapping that uses simple and physically acceptable mapping algorithm, they can be efficiently used to simulate the reflection test on the real part in the production line.

  • In this paper, a method of constructing a rectangular net from unorganized point cloud data is presented. In the method an implicit surface that fits the given point data is generated by using principal component analysis(PCA) and adaptive domain decomposition method(ADDM). Then a complete and quality rectangular net can be obtained by extracting voxel data from the implicit surface and projecting exterior faces of extracted voxels onto the implicit surface. The main advantage of the proposed method is that a quality rectangular net can be extracted from randomly scattered 3D points only without any further information. Furthermore the results of this works can be used to obtain many useful information including a slicing data, a solid STL model and a NURBS surface model in many areas involved in treatment of large amount of point data by proper processing of implicit surface and rectangular net generated previously.

  • In this present work, trimmed surface analysis for the 2D elasticity problem is presented. The main benefit of the proposed method is that no additional modeling for analysis of a trimmed surface is necessary. As the first attempt to deal with a trimmed surface in spline FEM, the information of the trimming curve and trimmed surface exported from CAD system is directly utilized for analysis. For this, trimmed elements are searched through employing projection scheme. For the integration of the trimmed elements, NURBSenhanced integration scheme which is used in NEFEM is adopted. The quadtree refinement of integration cell is performed for the complicated trimmed cases. The information of trimming curve is used for obtaining integration points as well as constructing stiffness matrix. The robustness and effectiveness of the proposed method are investigated by presenting various numerical examples.

  • In this study, geometric modeling techniques and their application to ship modeling and design are presented. Traditionally the hull shape is defined by using curves called the lines and various necessary computations are performed based on the discrete points obtained from the lines. However, some applications find difficulty in using the lines such as seakeeping analysis, which requires the computation of wetted part that is changing dynamically over time. To overcome such a problem and increase accuracy and efficiency in computation, two essential geometric modeling techniques, surface modeling and surface-to-surface intersection, are introduced and their application to ship modeling and analysis including hydrostatic computation, slamming and seakeeping analyses is presented.

  • This paper presents the method for developing an optimum hull form with minimum wave resistance using SQP(sequential quadratic programming) as an optimization technique. The wave resistance is evaluated by a Rankine source panel method with non-linear free surface conditions and the ITTC 1957 friction line is used to predict the frictional resistance coefficient. The geometry of the hull surface is represented and modified using NURBS(Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) surface patches. To verity the validity of the developed program the numerical calculations for Wigley hull and Series 60( $C_B=0.6$) hull have been performed and the results obtained by the numerical calculations have been compared with the original hulls.
