  • Diesel engine has many advantages such as high thermal efficiency, low fuel consumption and low emission of CO2. However, the diesel engine faced with strengthened emission regulation about NOx and PM. To suppress NOx emission, after-treatment systems such as Lean NOx Trap (LNT), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) are considered as a more practical strategy. This paper investigated the performance of Lean NOx trap of the 4 stroke diesel engine which had a LNT catalyst. Characteristic of exhaust emission at NEDC mode was analyzed. From this result, the effect of nozzle attaching degree, injection quantity and gas flow change on NOx conversion performance was clarified.

유사경유 및 정상경유 미립화특성과 배출가스 환경성평가 (The Characteristics of Spray and Exhaust Emissions Environmental Assessment of Adulteration and Convention Diesel)

  • Adulterations fuel have been using in the vehicle in these days. Because gasoline, diesel prices are rising every day. so people find more cheap price fuel. Adulterations fuel caused a serious air pollution problems. Adulteration fuel were made from waste engine oil, waste paint. According to Government regulations permit to be used recycle fuel(adulteration fuel) only in industrial boiler. Unburned fuel pollutants are effected to human health. In this paper, the hazardous air pollutants characteristics in the diesel vehicles according to adulterations of vehicle fuels were carried out in the NEDC test mode in chassis dynamometer. It is revealed that the all of the regulation pollutants (THC, NOx, CO and PM) emission in the adulterations of vehicle fuels was increased also the green house gas, $CO_2$ was increased. In the hazardous air pollutants characteristics, the VOCs(Volitile Organic Compounds) BTEX(Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene) emissions in the adulterations of vehicle fuels showed higher level than these in the diesel fuels.

휘발유와 LPG 자동차의 연료분사방식에 따른 극미세입자 배출 특성 (Emission Characteristics of Ultrafine particles According to Fuel Injection Type in Gasoline and LPG Vehicle)

  • Recently, ultrafine particles emitted from internal combustion engine is main concern because of its well known adverse health effects. So Europe decided to start the regulation about diesel engine particle number emissions. The nanoparticles smaller than 50nm in diameter have the ability to penetrate deep into interstitial tissue of luge, where they may cause severe respiratory inflammation and acute pulmonary toxicity. Recent studies have showed that spark ignition engines emit particles number concentration comparable to those from diesel engines with DPF under high load and rich mixture conditions, including cold starts and acceleration. So this study investigated emission characteristics of ultrafine particles according to fuel injection type in gasoline vehicles and LPG vehicles. The test vehicles were tested on CVS-75 and NEDC vehicle test mode using the chassis dynamometer, CPC system applied as a particle measuring instrument at the end of dilution tunnel. As a result, the correlation between fuel injection type and particulate emission was determined. GDI vehicle emitted 10 times higher particles than PFI vehicles, and compared to Mixer and LPGI type LPG vehicle, LPLI vehicle emitted particles high.

Off-cycle에서 Euro 6a 및 6b 규제 만족 디젤 자동차의 NOx 배출 특성 (NOx Emission Characteristics of Diesel Passenger Cars Met Euro 6a and 6b Regulations on Off-cycles)

  • Major countries have tighten their NOx regulation of diesel passenger cars. In the case of the EU, the regulation has been toughen up to 6.25 times since 2000. Despite the regulation the NOx concentration of the ambient has not been reduced proportionally. Futhermore, some manufacturers were disclosed using a defeat device for meeting the regulation illegally. As these issues, to reduce NOx emission practically, Korea and the EU introduced the real-world driving emission(RDE) regulation and the test method that will be applied after 2017. Also, the US has used the test equipment(PEMS) to detect a defeat device. In this paper, for the regulation to make a soft landing in Korea, 4 diesel passenger cars which met Euro 6a~6b regulation and were equipped with LNT/SCR were tested at a chassis dynamometer with environmental chamber applying the off-cycles(FTP, US06, SC03, HWFET and CADC) and several ambient condition(-7 and $14^{\circ}C$) as well as certification mode(NEDC, WLTC@ $23^{\circ}C$). The result of the test showed that the ambient temp. and the engine load as a test mode impacted the NOx emission of the cars while the vehicles with SCR emitted NOx lower than with LNT. Additionally, to propose an effective RDE test method, the above result was compared with the results of the other papers which tested RDE using the same cars.

  • 국내 외에서 대기 오염에 대한 관심은 높은 편이며, 자동차 및 연료 연구자들은 깨끗한 (친환경 대체연료) 연료와 연료 품질에 맞춘 새로운 엔진 설계의 구성, 혁신적인 후처리 시스템 등의 접근을 통하여 차량의 배기가스 배출을 줄이려고 노력하고 있다. 이러한 연구는 다음과 같은 다양한 주요 이슈를 가져오게 된다. PM 배출량이 디젤과 가솔린 차량에 대해 규제해야 하는지 여부와 가솔린 및 LPG 차량이 PM 배출가스 규제에서 무시될 수 있는지 여부이다. 마지막으로 온실 가스 규제가 자동차 배출 규제를 포함하여 논의 것 등이다. 자동차의 온실 가스 및 배출가스는 경오염, 건강 악영향 등의 원인으로 많은 문제점을 일으키게 된다. 다양한 차량 시험모드 및 환경조건에 기초하여, 본 논문에서는 배출가스와 온실가스에 대한 LPG 차량의 특성을 논의하였다. 또한 본 논문은 시험 온도에 대한 배출가스 특성을 평가하였다. 이때의 시험온도는 시험모드 상의 온도와 국내 겨울철 최저온도를 기준으로 나누어서 실시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 시험모드 및 환경조건, 배출가스, 온실가스의 상관관계를 분석하고자 하였다.

  • This study was investigate the characteristics of GHGs ($CO_2$, $CH_4$, and $N_2O$) emissions of diesel medium duty trucks according to their various driving modes. GHGs emissions decreased as vehicle speed increased, and emissions increased after 64.7 km/h. The 4.5 ton trucks show higher values of $CO_2$, $CH_4$, $N_2O$, 35%, 25%, and 57%, respectively, comparing of the 2.5 ton trucks. Also, $CO_2$ emissions under WHVC mode were 20% lower than those under the NEDC mode. In the case of cold start condition, $CO_2$ emissions were 12-13% higher than those for hot start condition. In the future, the result of present study will provide basic data to set up GHGs emission standards for medium and heavy duty vehicles.

교류발전기 충전 제어에 따른 차량연비 개선 효과 (Effect of Alternator Control on Vehicle Fuel Economy)

  • For many years there has been a trend to increased electrical energy consumption in cars caused by the replacement of mechanical parts by electronic or mechanical devices as well as the introduction of new electronic features. Whereas the number of electrical consumers continues to increase, the battery is still the only passive power source available. Because of this reason, needs for driving power of the engine accessories such as alternator system have increased. Usually, conventional alternator system is directly driven by the crankshaft of engine with belt. Since this increase bring about additional fuel economy. To improve this system automobile makers develops new controled alternator system. This paper focuses on fuel economy improvement according to control of alternator. In this paper, researches are performed on effect of type of Alternator system on fuel economy by experiment. And it is also calculated the effect on vehicle fuel economy using computer simulation with AVL cruise software. As a result, 0.64% of vehicle fuel economy improvement can be achieved in a vehicle with controled Alternator system compared to a vehicle with conventional Alternator system in NEDC mode.

제어를 위한 Lean NOx Trap의 흡장 및 환원 모델링 (Control Oriented Storage and Reduction Modeling of the Lean NOx Trap Catalyst)

  • A control oriented model of the Lean $NO_x$ trap (LNT) was developed to determine the timing of $NO_x$ regeneration. The LNT model consists of $NO_x$ storage and reduction model. Once $NO_x$ is stored ($NO_x$ storage model), at the right timing $NO_x$ should be released and then reduced ($NO_x$ reduction model) with reductants on the catalyst active sites, called regeneration. The $NO_x$ storage model simulates the degree of stored $NO_x$ in the LNT. It is structured by an instantaneous $NO_x$ storage efficiency and the $NO_x$ storage capacity model. The $NO_x$ storge capacity model was modeled to have a Gaussian distribution with a function of exhaust gas temperature. $NO_x$ release and reduction reactions for the $NO_x$ reduction model were modeled as Arrhenius equations. The parameter identification was optimally performed by the data of the bench flow reactor test results at space velocity 50,000/hr, 80,000/hr, and temperature of $250-500^{\circ}C$. The LNT model state, storage fraction indicates the degree of stored $NO_x$ in the LNT and thus, the timing of the regeneration can be determined based on it. For practical purpose, this model will be verified more completely by engine test data which simulate the NEDC transient mode.

연료 물성 변화가 자동차 주요부품 및 배출가스에 미치는 영향 연구 (Study on effect of fuel property change on vehicle important parts and exhaust gas)

  • 산업이 발전함에 따라 전 세계적으로 환경오염에 대한 문제가 대두되고 있으며, 자동차 배출가스 규제도 점점 강화되고 있다. 하지만, 배출가스는 단순한 자동차만의 문제가 아닌 연료물성성분에 따른 영향도 받는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 특히, 디젤엔진의 경우 CRDI 엔진이 개발 및 상용화되면서 고성능 엔진은 고성능 연료를 필요로 하고, 그 중 대표적인 것이 연료의 윤활성으로 밝혀진바, 이에 본 연구에서는 연료물성변화가 자동차 주요부품 및 배출가스에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 하였다. 윤활성이 취약한 연료($651{\mu}m$/품질기준 $400{\mu}m$이하)를 차량에 사용하여 고압펌프 및 인젝터, 매연저감장치 등의 파손이 발생하며, 매연 및 배출가스, 연비가 악화되는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 파손된 매연저감장치(DPF)를 확인한 결과 철분성분이 다량 검출되었으며 이는 연료에 철분성분이 많이 함유되어 있어, 배출가스에 영향을 미쳐 매연저감장치(DPF)의 처리능력을 초과한 입자상물질의 배출로 인한 파손으로 추정 및 확인하였다.
