Design and Implementation of LonWorks/IP Router for Network-based Control (네트워크 기반 제어를 위한 LonWorks/IP 라우터의 설계 및 구현)

  • Demand for the technology for access to device control network in industry and for access to building automation system via internet is on the increase. In such technology integration of a device control network with a data network such as internet and organizing wide-ranging DCS(distributed control system) is needed, and it can be realized in the framework of VDN(virtual device network)[1,2]. Specifications for device control network and data network are quite different because of the differences in application. So a router that translates the communication protocol between device control network and data network and efficiently transmits information to destination is needed for implementation of the VDN, This paper proposes the concept of NCS(networked control system) based on VDN(virtual device network) and suggests the routing algorithm that uses embedded system.[3]

Nonlinear Networked Control Systems with Random Nature using Neural Approach and Dynamic Bayesian Networks

  • We propose an intelligent predictive control approach for a nonlinear networked control system (NCS) with time-varying delay and random observation. The control is given by the sum of a nominal control and a corrective control. The nominal control is determined analytically using a linearized system model with fixed time delay. The corrective control is generated online by a neural network optimizer. A Markov chain (MC) dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) predicts the dynamics of the stochastic system online to allow predictive control design. We apply our proposed method to a satellite attitude control system and evaluate its control performance through computer simulation.

  • This thesis is concerned with the control of Arago's disk system using CAN(Controller Area Network). CAN protocol is used widely for the real time control in networked control systems(NCS). A networked control system using CAN is constructed to perform position control of Arago's disk. The mathematical model, of overall system is derived to design an appropriate controller analytical1y. Various operating points of the Arago's disk system in the real time control are chosen as stable region ($45^{\circ}$), marginal1y stable region($90^{\circ}$) and unstable region($120^{\circ}$), and the experiment for the position control of arago's disk system is done for each operating point. The performance of the suggested NCS is verified by experiments. It is shown that the NCS using CAN has stability and excel1ency in real time control.

Real-Time Control of Networked Control Systems via Ethernet

  • In this paper, we discuss real-time control of networked control systems (NCSs) and practical issues in the choice of the communication networks for this purpose. An appropriate integration of control systems, real-time environments, and network communication systems allows the optimization of the quality-of-control (QoC) in NCSs. We compare several prevailing network types that may be used in control applications to offer a guideline of choosing a proper network. A real-time operating environment is also presented as an important ingredient of NCS design. To evaluate its feasibility and effectiveness, a real-time NCS containing a ball magnetic levitation (Maglev) setup is implemented via an Ethernet. Based on the experimental results, it is concluded in this paper that real-time control via Ethernet is a practical and feasible solution to NCS design.

  • Networked Control Systems(NCS) contain the structure which controllers, actuators and sensors are connected to communication network. And they have been adopted in large and complicated plant area due to the advantages of mitigating computational bottleneck and maintenance. Although this structure provides many benefits, it brings in problems of unpredictable communication delay, data loss and corruption. This phenomena have to be considered in designing NCSs since it affects on overall control system stability. This paper introduces network traffic test method for ethernet based NCSs to find out maximum network usage which guarantee stable control operation. Test results shows this methods can be adopted in various types of NCSs and contributes economical system design and effective system operation.

  • Network uncertainties can vary the stability property of networked control system. Therefore, the performance and the stability variation of networked control system due to network uncertainties must be considered first in designing networked control system. In this paper, we present a new stability analysis method of networked control system with data loss and time delay. The proposed method can determine maximum allowable time delay and allowable transmission rate that preserves stability performance of networked control system. The results of the simulation validate effectiveness of our stability analysis methods.

  • Recently, rapid process of network technology has an effect on the field of control engineering. And it gives effect to network control system(NCS) research that grafts existing control system and network has been studied. According to one-chip development of TCP/IP that is the most useful in LAN server for hardware, it can usefully and conveniently apply to network control system before. This paper construct network control system that can work close-loop control takes advantage of Ethernet that is the most for general data transmission network. Here, protocol uses for data transmission makes use for TCP/IP. This work the basic data transmitter-receive experiment to take advantage of network node was produced. And then, DC-motor can be control plant. Finally, I will prove to build speed control system of multiple DC-motor through Ethernet.

  • In recent years, the case to install small water treatment facility to every local area has increased. A key issue in the successful implementation of the control systems for the water treatment plants is the choice of control architecture. Within the framework of distributed control system(DCS), this paper presents a new development of intelligent control module and its novel application to open control architecture for water treatment plants. This control system so called NCS(Network Based Control System) with standard networks system with LonTalks protocol of ANSI/EIA 709.1, regulatory control function and information dispatch function has suitable functionality to operate these distributed water treatment facility effectively. This paper describes the case where NCS is applied for the filters system in water treatment facility of Heong Sung area.

  • In a networked control system (NCS), time delays which are larger than one sampling period can change the control period. As a result, it may cause system instability. This paper presents a control method for an NCS using the controller area network (CAN), where time delays arise in the control loop. Specifically, a simple yet efficient method is proposed to improve control performance in the presence of time delays. The proposed method, which can be regarded as a gain scheduling method, selects a suitable LQ control gain among several gains to deal with the problems due to the change of control period. It is found that the gain can be scheduled in terms of the relation between the gain and the sampling period, which is represented by first-order algebraic equations. The proposed method is evaluated with an inverted cart pendulum system where the actuator and sensors are connected through the CAN. Experiment results are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method.
