In this paper, we propose the pseudo n-gram language models for speech recognition with middle size vocabulary compared to large vocabulary speech recognition using the statistical n-gram language models. The proposed method is that it is very simple method, which has the standard structure of ARPA and set the word probability arbitrary. The first, the 1-gram sets the word occurrence probability 1 (log likelihood is 0.0). The second, the 2-gram also sets the word occurrence probability 1, which can only connect the word start symbol and WORD, WORD and the word end symbol . Finally, the 3-gram also sets the ward occurrence probability 1, which can only connect the word start symbol , WORD and the word end symbol . To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the word recognition experiments are carried out. The preliminary experimental results (off-line) show that the word accuracy has average 97.7% for 452 words uttered by 3 male speakers. The on-line word recognition results show that the word accuracy has average 92.5% for 20 words uttered by 20 male speakers about stock name of 1,500 words. Through experiments, we have verified the effectiveness of the pseudo n-gram language modes for speech recognition.

Language models are essential in predicting the next word in a spoken sentence, thereby enhancing the speech recognition accuracy, among other things. However, spoken language domains are too numerous, and therefore developers suffer from the lack of corpora with sufficient sizes. This paper proposes a method of combining two n-gram language models, one constructed from a very small corpus of the right domain of interest, the other constructed from a large but less adequate corpus, resulting in a significantly enhanced language model. This method is based on the observation that a small corpus from the right domain has high quality n-grams but has serious sparseness problem, while a large corpus from a different domain has more n-gram statistics but incorrectly biased. With our approach, two n-gram statistics are combined by extending the idea of Katz's backoff and therefore is called a dual-source backoff. We ran experiments with 3-gram language models constructed from newspaper corpora of several million to tens of million words together with models from smaller broadcast news corpora. The target domain was broadcast news. We obtained significant improvement (30%) by incorporating a small corpus around one thirtieth size of the newspaper corpus.
This paper presents our language model adaptation for Korean spontaneous speech recognition. Korean spontaneous speech is observed various characteristics of content and style such as filled pauses, word omission, and contraction as compared with the written text corpus. Our approaches focus on improving the estimation of domain-dependent n-gram models by relevance weighting out-of-domain text data, where style is represented by n-gram based tf/sup */idf similarity. In addition to relevance weighting, we use disfluencies as Predictor to the neighboring words. The best result reduces 9.7% word error rate relatively and shows that n-gram based relevance weighting reflects style difference greatly and disfluencies are good predictor also.
Conventional keyword spotting systems use the connected word recognition network consisted by keyword models and filler models in keyword spotting. This is why the system can not construct the language models of word appearance effectively for detecting keywords in large vocabulary continuous speech recognition system with large text data. In this paper to solve this problem, we propose a keyword spotting system using pseudo N-gram language model for detecting key-words and investigate the performance of the system upon the changes of the frequencies of appearances of both keywords and filler models. As the results, when the Unigram probability of keywords and filler models were set to 0.2, 0.8, the experimental results showed that CA (Correctly Accept for In-Vocabulary) and CR (Correctly Reject for Out-Of-Vocabulary) were 91.1% and 91.7% respectively, which means that our proposed system can get 14% of improved average CA-CR performance than conventional methods in ERR (Error Reduction Rate).
This paper presents our style-based language model adaptation for Korean conversational speech recognition. Korean conversational speech is observed various characteristics of content and style such as filled pauses, word omission, and contraction as compared with the written text corpora. For style-based language model adaptation, we report two approaches. Our approaches focus on improving the estimation of domain-dependent n-gram models by relevance weighting out-of-domain text data, where style is represented by n-gram based tf*idf similarity. In addition to relevance weighting, we use disfluencies as predictor to the neighboring words. The best result reduces 6.5% word error rate absolutely and shows that n-gram based relevance weighting reflects style difference greatly and disfluencies are good predictor.
In usual language models(LMs), the probability has been estimated by selecting highly frequent words from a large text side database. However, in case of adopting LMs in a specific task, it is unnecessary to using the general method; constructing it from a large size tent, considering the various kinds of cost. In this paper, we propose a construction method of LMs using a small size text database in order to be used in specific tasks. The proposed method is efficient in increasing the low frequent words by applying same sentences iteratively, for it will robust the occurrence probability of words as well. We carried out continuous speech recognition(CSR) experiments on 200 sentences uttered by 3 speakers using LMs by iterative teaming(IL) in a air flight reservation task. The results indicated that the performance of CSR, using an IL applied LMs, shows an 20.4% increased recognition accuracy compared to those without it. This system, using the IL method, also shows an average of 13.4% higher recognition accuracy than the previous one, which uses context-free grammar(CFG), implying the effectiveness of it.
Word segmentation errors occurring in text preprocessing often insert incorrect words into recognition vocabulary and cause poor language models for Korean large vocabulary continuous speech recognition. We propose an automatic word segmentation algorithm using Markov chains and syllable-based n-gram language models in order to correct word segmentation error in teat corpora. We assume that a sentence is generated from a Markov chain. Spaces and non-space characters are generated on self-transitions and other transitions of the Markov chain, respectively Then word segmentation of the sentence is obtained by finding the maximum likelihood path using syllable n-gram scores. In experimental results, the algorithm showed 91.58% word accuracy and 96.69% syllable accuracy for word segmentation of 254 sentence newspaper columns without any spaces. The algorithm improved the word accuracy from 91.00% to 96.27% for word segmentation correction at line breaks and yielded the decomposition accuracy of 96.22% for compound-noun decomposition.
Recurrent neural network based language models (RNN LM) have shown improved results in language model researches. The RNN LMs are limited to post processing sessions, such as the N-best rescoring step of the wFST based speech recognition. However, it has considerable vocabulary problems that require large computing powers for the LM training. In this paper, we try to find the 1st pass N-gram model using word embedding, which is the simplified deep neural network. The class based language model (LM) can be a way to approach to this issue. We have built class based vocabulary through word embedding, by combining the class LM with word N-gram LM to evaluate the performance of LMs. In addition, we propose that part-of-speech (POS) tagging based LM shows an improvement of perplexity in all types of the LM tests.
This paper is a study on continuous speech recognition in the Korean language using HMM-based models with continuous density functions. Here, we propose the most efficient method of continuous speech recognition for the Korean language under the condition of a continuous HMM model with 2 to 44 density functions. Two voice models were used CI-Model that uses 36 uni-phones and CD-Model that uses 3,000 tri-phones. Language model was based on N-gram. Using these models, 500 sentences and 6,486 words under speaker-independent condition were processed. In the case of the CI-Model, the maximum word recognition rate was 94.4% and sentence recognition rate was 64.6%. For the CD-Model, word recognition rate was 98.2% and sentence recognition rate was 73.6%. The recognition rate of CD-Model we obtained was stable.
In this study, we have developed and evaluated an information extracting module based on the named entity recognition technique. For the given purpose in this paper, the module was designed to apply to the problem dealing with extraction of postal address information from arbitrary documents without any prior knowledge on the document layout. From the perspective of information technique practice, our approach can be said as a probabilistic n-gram (bi- or tri-gram) method which is a generalized technique compared with a uni-gram based keyword matching. It is the main difference between our approach and the conventional methods adopted in natural language processing that applying sentence detection, tokenization, and POS tagging recursively rather than applying the models sequentially. The test results with approximately two thousands documents are presented at this paper.
