Performance Analysis of Multicast Relay Transmissions in WiMedia D-MAC for OSMU N-Screen Services (OSMU N-스크린 서비스를 위한 WiMedia D-MAC에서 멀티캐스트 릴레이 전송 기술의 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, WiMedia Distributed-MAC protocol is adopted for development of an OSMU (One Source Multi Use) N-screen wireless multicast service. But, when considering wireless communication environment where channel error rate is time-variant, N-screen high-speed data is vulnerable to be lost. For this problem, a multicast relay scheme is proposed by analyzing Distributed-MAC protocol. In proposed multicast relay scheme, Multicast-free DRP Availability IE is combined and the relay node suitable for N-screen multicast transmissions is selected. Through this operation, it can avoid wireless channel with high errors and can transmit N-screen high-speed data. In simulation results, the proposed multicast relay scheme is compared with conventional Distributed-MAC multicast scheme in view points of throughput and energy consumption according to various numbers of multicast nodes and BER (Bit Error Rate) values in wireless channel. Through simulation results, it is explained that proposed multicast relay scheme should be adopted in WiMedia Distributed-MAC protocol to realize OSMU N-screen wireless multicast services.

Real-time Video Playback Method for N-Screen Service Based on Windows Azure (Windows Azure 기반의 N-스크린 서비스를 위한 실시간 동영상 재생 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time video playback scheme for the N-Screen service based on Windows Azure. This scheme creates several playback blocks based on the performance of each node by non-uniform splitting of the original video. To reduce transcoding-time, it allocates the playback blocks to a corresponding node by transcoding the playback blocks. Through the simulation, we show that it is more effective to use real-time video playback for the N-screen service than the previous method. The proposed scheme splits an AVI format 300MB source video with non-uniform playback blocks. It allocates the playback blocks to the heterogeneous node of Windows Azure, the commercial cloud system and measures of transcoding-time by transcoding non-uniform playback blocks to mp4 and Flv format. As a result, the proposed scheme improves the performance of the N-screen service based on Windows Azure compared to the previous uniform split strategy.

  • With the spread of the new technologies like a smart phone, a smart pad, N-Screen service for financial transaction quickly became commonplace through the Internet. Although it has been developed related technologies and policies since the N-Screen has been provided in Korea, infrastructure for financial services is still lacking. It also has many potential problems including phishing or malware attacks, privacy information exposure & breaches, etc. This work suggests the financial security framework in the side of information protection through threat vulnerability analysis. Further, we examine the possibility of effective application methods based on political technical design.

  • Recently, the strategy for N-screen service is in the spotlight along with the consumer's need to use contents regardless of time and place due to the rapid development of communication technology, which is meshing with the desire of service providers seeking a new business model. N-screen, as a screen-extension-concept service which enables consumers to continuously share and use contents in various equipments such as TV, computer and portable terminals, is an advanced type of 3-screen service strategy initially proposed by AT&T, an American telecommunication company. In the N-screen service for pay-contents, in order to support continuous screen changes to and from various equipments, temporary watching right should be given to the equipment intended for screen change. However, it is impossible to give the temporary watching right in the present broadcasting environment, adopting an access-control system. In this paper, the access-control technology being used for pay-contents in the present broadcasting environment and the reason for not being able to give temporary watching right, will be examined. After the examination, the solution for delegation of watching right by using an additional key on the basis of currently used access-control technology, will be proposed.

Relationship between N-screen Service and Home TV: Focusing on the Korean Representative N-Screen Service, Tving (N 스크린 서비스와 홈TV간 대체 및 보완관계에 대한 실증적 연구: 국내 대표 N스크린 서비스인 티빙을 중심으로)

  • This study investigates whether the use of N-screen service affects the use of Home TV service as a supplement or substitution. In this study, we collected 132 available survey answers from CJ Hellovision Tving users. We found supplement relationship between Tving and Home TV, which implies that the more use in Tving service, the use of Home TV increases as much as 36.4%. From the result, some meaningful implications were derived. First, a direction for content price negotiation between N-screen providers and terrestrial broadcasters can be suggested. Second, the result will provide a suggestion for establishing a competitive strategy between N-screen providers and Pay-TV providers. Third, this study may solve copyright dispute between content providers and pay TV operators.

  • The N Screen service has been focused because of the explosive growth of Smart media. However, between content producers and service providers have been causing the copyright issue while N-Screen service providing real-time channels. In this study, the current copyright issues are analyzed by examining at the right relationships associated with the right of communication to the public and private copy that caused by sling box which is activated N Screen.

  • This paper suggested a cyber collaboration platform based on web for food safety service. We implemented the cyber collaboration platform for food safety service so that the users participated in collaborative work may refer shared media objects as the same view to others. In this paper, we discussed a model for increasing reliability of food safety data through N screen server and client model. This paper explained a performance analysis of a system with function comparison running on multimedia collaboration work based on web and N screen techniques.

  • 최근 진행되고 있는 미디어 융합 환경에서 가장 주목 받고 있는 서비스는 N-스크린 서비스라고 할 수 있다. N-Screen 서비스가 무선 환경뿐만 아니라 이동환경에서도 안정적으로 제공되기 위해서 필요한 핵심 요소기술은 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기술일 것이다. 최근에는 통신 사업자를 비롯한 가전 제조사, 인터넷 및 플랫폼 사업자들이 각자의 강점을 살려서 다양한 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기반의 N-스크린 서비스를 제공하기 시작했고 핵심 서비스로 발전시켜 나가고 있다. 본 논문에서는 클라우드 컴퓨팅과 N-스크린의 관계, 주요사업자들의 서비스 현황 및 발전에 필요한 기술적 요구사항에 대해 알아보겠다.

Cross-media Storytelling Strategy Utilizing N-Screen Service: Focusing on ASMD (N스크린 서비스를 이용한 크로스미디어 스토리텔링 전략: ASMD를 중심으로)

  • This study discusses crossmedia storytelling strategy plans by utilizing N-Screen service. It conceptualizes the definitions of N-Screen service in terms of smart contents. Related previous researches are extensively introduced to clarify how N-Screen service would be different from previous similar services. Most domestic N-Screen services have adopted OSMU method which provides the same contents from various platforms. It is, however, centered only on a development company's one-sided service and neglects to reflect the characteristics of a media or platform. In this light of gap, this study introduces ASMD method which is based on cross media. By providing right contents services according to types of smart media and enhancing a user's participation, users can enjoy a variety of entertainment and rich contents experiences and development companies can expect better promotion effects and an increase in sales. Finally, this study argues for strategies of crossmedia storytelling by using ASMD method, based on both domestic and overseas examples of contents development with crossmedia. As more and more diverse forms of media and platform would be introduced in the future, new strategies and perspectives would be imperative to cope with new environment. Conventional OSMU method bears inherent limitations to cover the range of N-Screen application. This study discusses the ways to mitigate the limitations by proposing ASMD method with crossmedia.
