Notes on the Higher fungi in Kangwon-do (I) - on Some Unrecorded Species - (강원지역의 고등균류기 (I) -수종 미기록종에 대하여-)

  • Some fresh fungi collected at three mountain areas in Kangwon-do in 1996 and dried specimens collected before 1996 were observed and identified. Five species, Lepiota grangei, Baeospora myriadophylla, Mycena acicula, Clitocybe sinopica and Gerronema strombodes were confirmed new to Korea and registered here with full descriptions.

Enhancement of the germination efficiency of Gastrodia elata seeds using a new Mycena species (신규 애주름버섯 NIFOS101을 이용한 천마 종자의 발아효율 증진)

  • This study investigated the in vitro symbiotic seed germination of the achlorophyllous orchid, Gastrodia elata, using a new Mycena species. A leaf-disc ($2{\times}2cm$) of Quercus accutissima was inoculated with either of the two fungal species, NIFOS101 (NCBI accession number KY449288) or KFRI1212 (HQ662845), following which it was placed on water agar medium, prior to sowing seeds of G. elata. After 20 days of symbiotic culture, NIFOS101 and KFRI1212 germinated 94% and 70% of G. elata seeds, respectively, although the initiation of protocorm development was induced much earlier by KFRI 1212 than by NIFOS101. Furthermore, the NIFOS101 mycelia grew much faster than KFRI 1212 at all temperatures tested. A phylogenetic analysis using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences showed that NIFOS101 belonged to a clade with M. purpureofusca, which completely differed from the clade with KFRI1212. This study not only identified a new fungal species, NIFOS101, which improved the rate of symbiotic seed germination up to 94% as compared to KFRI1212 (70%), but also revealed that G. elata required a broad taxonomic range of fungi for its symbiotic germination.

  • Some 50 fungi were collected and identified at Youngu and Mt. Sobaek from April to October in 1977. The results have shown that, following ten species are new to Korean list. Collybia dryophila (BULL. ex FR.), QUEL., Mycena polygramma (BULL. ex FR.) S.F. GRAY., M. pura (PERS. ex FR.) QUEL., Crepidotus nephrodes (BERK. et CURT.) SACC., lnocybe montana KOBAY., I. squamulosa KOBAY., Rhodophllus ater HONGO, R. violaceus (MURR.) SING., Leccinum aurantiacum (BULL.) S.F. GRAY., and Suillus aeruginascens (SECR.) SNELL.   • Macrofungi are essential decomposers in the forest environment. Although more than 70% of the land is mountainous, there has been a lack of research on mushroom diversity in Korea compared to the global species estimation. For this reason, the need for further research became apparent. The surveys were conducted from 2014 to 2022 nationwide. As a result, 15 unrecorded macrofungal species were discovered: Agaricus thiersii, Baorangia alexandri, Boletellus putuoensis, Entoloma bulakhae, Entoloma pygmaeopapillatum, Entoloma subtenuicystidiatum, Gerronema kuruvense, Hyphoderma nudicephalum, Hyphoderma tenue, Macrolepiota subcitrophylla, Mycena jingyinga, Mycena yuezhuoi, Ophiocordyceps vespulae, Scytinostroma acystidiatum, and Steccherinum straminellum. These species are identified based on morphological, molecular, and phylogenetic analyses using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and the nuclear large subunit rRNA (LSU) region. Here, we provided macro- and micro-morphological figures with phylogenetic trees to support 15 species as unrecorded to Korea.

  • Many higher fungi were collected at Mt.Manrae, Mt.Kirin, Mt.Nam, Mt.Unjang, Mt.Yonsuk, Mt.Minjuji from May, 2000 to June, 2001 and they were identified. As the result, Marasmius buxi, M. epiphylloides, M. hudsoni, Mycena erubescens, Agaricus bisporus var. bisporus, Panellus ringens, Lactarius aquiflus, Leccinum quericinum were newly discovered in Korea. They were designed Korean common names by author.

  • Many higher fungi were collected at MI.Moak Provincial Park (Chonlabuk-Do), Mt.Pangtae(Kangwon-Do) and Byunsan Pennisula National Park from April. 1995 to October, 1995. These higher fungi were identified.According to the results, these species were newly to Korea: Laccaria ohiellsis, Mycef1a clavularis. M.acicula. Marasmius ramealis. M.calopus, Strobilurus esculefltus, Agrocybe sphaleromorpha and Corlinarius fasciatus.

  • Many higher fungi were collected at Mt. Moak Provincial Park, Mt. Yonsuk in Wangju-Kun from May to October 1995. They were identified and according to the results, one genus and eight species were newly to Korea. Genus Stereopsis was newly to Korea. Hygrophorus arbustivus, Tricholoma imbricatwn, Mycenafragillima, Cortinarius spilomeus, C. saturninus, Dermocybe semisanguinea, Stereopsis burtianum and Jansia bomeensis were newly to Korea.

Taxonomic Study on Some Unrecorded Species of Korean Hydropus

  • Specimens belonging to the genera Mycena and Collybia which have been preserved in the herbarium of National Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Suwon, Korea were investigated. Among them, four species were confirmed to be Hydropus species viz Hydropus marginellus, H. nitrata, H. erinensis, and H. floccipes. Authors registered them to the Korean mycoflora with full descriptions, illustrations and Korean names.

  • A total of 560 higher fungal specimens were collected in the Gwangneung Forest from May to November of 2007. All of the collected specimens were identified; categorized into 8 classes, 19 orders, 69 families, 165 genera, and 296 species; and deposited in the herbarium of the Korea National Arboretum. Of the identified specimens, 8 were confirmed as being new to Korea and are as follows: Cudoniella acicularis (Korean name: Jeombakisotugubeoseos), Discina ancilis (Korean name: Jomwonbanbeoseos), Helvella costifera (Korean name: Galbidaeanjangbeoseos), Entoloma cephalotrichum (Korean name: Jomkkaltaejiweodaebeoseos), Mycena leptocephala (Korean name: Yalbeungatweojuleumbeoseos), Naematoloma gracile (Korean name: Ganeundaegaeambeoseos), Sistotrema octosporum (Korean name: Hweosekcheonbeoseos), and Hydnellum peckii (Korean name: Pijeopkkaltaegibeoseos).

  • Many fungi were collected at Mt. Daedun Provincial Park between the periods from March 2001 to October 2002 and they were identified. According to the results, the fungi diversity included 2 division, 3 subdivisions, 5 classes, 4 subclasses, 12 orders, 35 families, 75 genera and 153 species. Among them Ileodictyon is unrecorded genus and Ileodictyon gracile, Mycena flosum-nivium and Tricholoma lascivum are newly to Korea. Dominant family are Tricholomataceae, Russulaceae and Polyporaceae;genus Amanita and species Collybia confluens and Russula emetica In useful fungi and ecological resources, edible fungi included 51 species; culture fungi 10; poisonous fungi 18: medicinal fungi 17: anticancer fungi 22: ectomycorrhizal fungi 26 and wood rotting fungi 51, In geographical distributions of Chonbuk areas, same species are 50 spcies of Jeongup ; 56 of Mt.Manduck : 84 of Mt.Jiri : 28 of Pyonsan national park : 59 of Cheonju arboretum and 51 of Mt,Sunun.
