Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of music therapy on state anxiety and pain among patients undergoing burn dressing changes. Method: A convenience sample of 32 adult burn patients who were eligible and provided consent were included in the study which was a quasi-experimental study of a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Fifteen patients in the control group received the routine burn dressing changes but 17 patients in the experimental group listened to self-selected music through headphones connected to a CD player during burn dressing changes for three days. All subjects of the music group chose the type of music that would relax them. Before and after burn dressing changes, subjects completed the State Anxiety Inventory and self-report of pain scores. Result: There was a significant reduction in state anxiety before and after burn dressing changes in those who received music therapy in contrast to those who did not receive music therapy. The music group reported lower pain scores before and after burn dressing changes than did the non-music group. Conclusion: These findings indicate that music therapy composed of self-selected music is a valuable intervention for the treatment of pain and anxiety in patients undergoing burn dressing changes.

This study compared and analyzed 15 CBMR (Content-based Music Retrieval) systems accessible on the web in terms of DB size and type, query type, access point, input and output type, and search functions, with reviewing features of music information and techniques used for transforming or transcribing of music sources, extracting and segmenting melodies, extracting and indexing features of music, and matching algorithms for CBMR systems. Application of text information retrieval techniques such as inverted indexing, N-gram indexing, Boolean search, truncation, keyword and phrase search, normalization, filtering, browsing, exact matching, similarity measure using edit distance, sorting, etc. to enhancing the CBMR; effort for increasing DB size and usability; and problems in extracting melodies, deleting stop notes in queries, and using solfege as pitch information were found as the results of analysis.
The purpose of this study was to investigate music therapists'use and perception of computer-based music technology. Questionnaires were distributed either electronically or in-person to 367 music therapists with credentials. Of the 367 initially distributed questionnaires, 101 were returned and 61 were analyzed after excluding 40 incomplete responses. The survey was comprised of two sections: the use of music technology and perceived importance of music technology in music therapy practice. The results showed that 65.6% of the respondents had used music technology in their clinical practice. The most frequently used type of music technology was Finale, followed by Garage band, and Cubase. With regard to the areas where music technology was used, it was implemented primarily for adolescents for musical or emotional goals, and was applied most frequently as a musical resource. In addition, most respondents showed a positive attitude toward music technology and added that they would need to be trained to use music technology for their clinical practice. These results provide practical information on how music therapists use and perceive computer-based music technology, and its implication for music therapy clinical practice.
Although music is one of the most important attributes of broadcasting communications, few studies have examined the relationship between background music and the behavior of audiences, particularly in the context of TV home shopping programs, where purchase decisions are made while watching the show. The objective of this study is to examine whether certain characteristics of music in broadcasting communications can affect the audiences' purchase intentions or behaviors. Unlike previous studies on this issue, this study considers the impulse-inducing capability (IIC) of music as an important variable affecting consumers' purchase intension. A 2×3 (high/low involvement and high/low/no IIC music) between subjects design was used for the experiments in the study. The TV home shopping programs in the high or low involvement condition were identical except for the type of background music: high IIC music, low IIC music, and no music. A total of 188 undergraduate students at a college in Seoul, South Korea participated in the study. Their ages range from 20 to 25 (median age = 22), and nearly 60% were male. Our analysis showed that in the low involvement condition, high IIC music was more likely to have a positive effect on purchase intentions than low IIC (common) music or no music did. Meanwhile, there was not any significant relationship between music and purchase intentions in the high involvement condition. Given that previous studies have provided no clear evidence of the effects of music on consumers' purchase intentions or behaviors, this study makes an important contribution to the literature in this field. The result of this study provides implications to the practitioners in the market, too. Marketers need to reevaluate the value of music used in broadcasting communications and pay more attention to find the right music for their campaigns. Limitations of this study as well as directions for future studies are also discussed.

Whereas, the ADHD patient with blood deficiency of the heart and the spleen, invigoration of vital energy music therapy can be used. Another case of ADHD patients with deficiency of the kidney, Water-Gi rhythm and replenishing vital essence music therapy can be used. According to the patients' seven modes of emotions, the proper music should be chosen. Conclusions Oriental medicine music therapy can be a new type of treatment for ADHD patients.
This study compares and reviews PPL in domestic and foreign music videos with reference to possibility of connecting K-POP music videos and PPL in industrial perspective and establishes a successful PPL strategy for K-POP. For this, their success factors are drawn through content analysis method for PPL examples in K-POP and foreign(British-American) music videos. The study analyzes PPL strategies in K-POP and foreign music videos by content analysis of PPL exposure frequency and time, PPL placement type, PPL products group type, advertisers, etc. According to the study, PPL product lines as well as fashions need to be diversified in K-POP music videos. The study also shows that it needs to apply the PPL strategy used in foreign music videos which are focused on exposure time rather than exposure frequency. In addition, it turned out to be important to establish more bold PPL placement exposure strategy in K-POP music videos. Therefore, the study is to offer theoretical and political implications required for successful PPL strategy in K-POP in the future.

The purpose of this study is to increase the development possibility of K-pop music by analyzing K-pop music and analyzing the use of world music in it. As a research method, we will first look at the world music elements Puerto Rico's reggaeton, Jamaica's toasting, and the melody of Indian music. After that, we analyze two songs, Hyo-yeon's and Hyun-A & Dawn's , with rhythm and melody elements to find out the utilization of World Music. As a result of the study, it was found that it rhythmically showed the type of Dembow rhythm derived from Puerto Rico's reggaeton, and melody followed the form of Jamaican toasting and the melody of Arabic music. This study is meaningful in presenting the possibility of development and various directions of K-pop in the future by analyzing the use of world music used in K-pop music. Through the convergence of various world music and K-pop, I hope that K-pop music will become a culture that is supported by a wider public.
This review was conducted to identify the research trends in music intervention studies with elderly patients with dementia. Korean- and English-written studies on music intervention for this population were searched and analyzed. Seventeen studies were included in the final analysis. The results showed that behavioral and psychological symptoms were the main dependent variables. In terms of the type of music intervention employed, interventions requiring the patient's active participation in producing music were more common than interventions that required the patient to only listen to music. The majority of studies provided live music, selected music that was familiar to and preferred by the patient, and utilized rhythm-based performance activities. In the studies using active music production as the intervention, the participants were asked to express the emotions evoked by group instrument playing or singing along with music, which doesn't reflect the functional limitations (e.g., cognitive impairment) of elderly patients with moderate to severe dementia. The results of this review point to the need in the field to develop music intervention programs for the elderly with moderate to severe dementia that meaningfully engage these patients in music-related behaviors that target their specific symptomology.
A research project was conducted to assess the levels of noise exposed to "Noraebang" users and potential hazards to noise-induced hearing loss due to commercial Noraebang noise. A two-way, mixed-factors factorial design was employed for the experiment using independent variables of "noise source" (no- singer, 1-singer, and 2-singer conditions) and "music type" (Trot, Ballad, and Rock music) with 18 normal hearing subjects. Each singer group sang 5 popular songs of each music type in each signing condition, whereas background music was just played for the no-singer condition. For each music played/sung, equivalent continuous sound pressure levels and maximum sound pressure levels were measured for data analysis purposes. Pure-tone audiometry was applied for measuring subjects' hearing threshold levels before and after exposure to Noraebgang noise. The statistical analyses indicate that average continuous noise levels due to Noraebang leisure environment were very serious, especially when two people were singing (higher than 95 dBA). Furthermore, maximum noise levels often exceeded the OSHA's non-premissible 115 dBA level. Worse yet, hearing loss assessment implies that Noraebang facilities may pose a serious threat to noise-induced hearing loss, based on 6-8 dB loss at 125 Hz and 8 dB loss at 4000 Hz after about 1-hour Noraebang noise exposure.
