In this paper, we suggest new music composition algorithm based on fractal theory. User can define and control fractal shape by setting an initial state and production rules in L-System. We generate an asymmetric fractal tree based on L-System and probability. Then a music is generated by the fractal tree image using sonification techniques. We introduce two composition algorithm using the fractal tree. First, monophonic music can be generated by mapping x and y axis to velocity and pitch, respectively Second, harmonic music also can be generated by mapping x and y axis to time and pitch, respectively Using our composition algorithm, user can easily generate a music which has repeated pattern created by recursive feature of fractal, and a music which has structure similar to fractal tree image.

By enabling musicians to freely control the elements involved in sound production and tone generation with a variety of timbre, synthesizers have revolutionized and permanently changed music since the 1960s. Paik-Abe Video Synthesizer, a masterpiece of video art maestro Nam June Paik, is a prominent example of re-interpretation of this new musical instrument in the realm of video and audio. This article examines Paik-Abe Video Synthesizer as an innovative instrument to play videos from the perspective of audiovisual art, and establishes its aesthetic value and significance through both artistic and technical analysis. The instrument, which embodied the concept of image sampling and real-time interactive video as an image-based multi-channel music production tool, contributed to establishing a new relationship between sound and image within the realm of audiovisual art. The fact that his video synthesizer not only adds image to sound, but also presents a complete fusion of image and sound as an image instrument with musical characteristics, becomes highly meaningful in this age of synesthesia.

This study aims to show the possibility of approaching artistic design through the Bergsonian concept of musical vitality by grasping the expression of his musical vitality at the Chapel at Ronchamp. For the purpose of this study, the aesthetic significance of Bergson's philosophy of life was first contemplated, and a case study analysis was conducted on the vitality of music as temporality at the Chapel at Ronchamp. On this basis, the examples of his musical vitality as metaphysical reality at the Chapel were analyzed. The results of analysis are as follows: First, the Bergsonian vitality of music as temporality at the Chapel is expressed as a sense of movement-through the acoustic form, the modulor corresponding to the scale of the music, the opposite composition of musical changes, the fluid space of the music, and the light and shadow of counterpoint-as having been intended by Le Corbusier in the very process of design. Second, the vitality of music as Bergson's metaphysical reality at the Chapel at Ronchamp is expressed in the image and rhythm of music created by intuitive reminiscences. The acoustic form, the form created by the modulor, the opposite form of composition, the fluid space and the light and shadow as the melody and image of music present continuous diversity as vital flow in a uniform direction. The vitality of music as aesthetical reality is imitated by the rhythm of the music deriving from repetitive movements sensed here. Consequentry, the Chapel at Ronchamp can be seen as a vital design that expresses Bergson's notion of musical vitality, indicating that an approach toward artistic design can be realized through his musical vitality. This study holds significance as basic research on artistic design with philosophy and music as its origin.

This paper presents techniques to recognize music using back propagation network, one of the neural network algorithms, and to preprocess technique for music image. Music symbols and music notes are segmented by preprocessing such as binarization, slope correction, staff line removing, etc. Segmented music symbols and music notes are recognized by music note recognizing network and non-music note recognizing network. We proved correctness of proposed music recognition algorithm through experiments and analysis with various kind of musics.

This study was intended to observe strategic fashion-presentation in Music stars according to the change of the star system in the Korean popular musics. The Korean Music stars since 1990s have been made, fabricated and have excessively depended on the demand of the teenagers. Therefore their distinctive fashion-presentation is considered as more important element than those of the past. Consequently. the characteristics of the fashion-presentation in the Korean Music star these days are as follows : First. Music stars shows fashion-presentation that has a consistent fashion theme. That is one of the key success factor to raise the recognition of star singer. Second. Music star produces fashion images which reflects identity and of subculture. Those appearance have won wild popularity of the Peeps 1990's new generation. Third. although there is no change music genre and emotion. through merely renovation of their fashion image, Music star got diversity and originality of the characteristics of contemporary cultural goods. Fourth. In case of famous dance groups, in the past they maintained a singular atmosphere as a group, but in 1990'Music star group each members of the group have individually fashion-presentation. So, they can get more fans. Fifth, Music singers borrow or duplicate fashion-presentation from each others. Such as similar fashion-presentation guarantees support of the same fans.

Western singers voice have been studied in music science since the early 20th century. However, Korean traditional singers voice have not yet been studied scientifically. This study is to find the physiological and acoustic characteristics of Pansori singers voices. Western singers participated for comparative purposes. Ten western singers and ten Pansori singers participated in this study. The subjects spoke and sung seven simple vowels /a, e, i, o, u, c, w/. An analysis of Glottal image was done by Scope View and acoustic characteristics of speech and singing voice were analyzed by CSL. The results are as follows: (1) Glottal gestures of Pansori singers showed asymmetric vocal folds. (2) Singing vowel formants of Pansori singers showed breathiness based on Spectrogram. (3) Music formant of western singers appeared in around 3kHz area, however, Pansori singers formant appeared in low frequency area. Modulation of vibrato showed 6 frequency per sec in case of western singers. Pansori singers showed no deep modulation of vibrato on spectrogram.

Jazz derived from the blacks' work songs and made the frame of Jazz reaching blues and finally arrived at the recent time propagating itself as not only the blacks' music but all human being's music. This study has a purpose to suggest the Jazz image to the fashion design by examining the historical trace of Jazz which is one of popular music received by hearing sense. As for the result of the Jazz's effects by age, rhythmical beauty stressing dresses were in fashion by dance enjoying women in 1920's and dresses giving a mature atmosphere set the fashion in 1930's. in the beginning of 1990's, newly emerging Jazz was reflected to the popular culture along with the historical mode's fashion in the general society. The design's decided with two themes of Jazz Classic and Neo Fusion to modernly and naturally express the pursuit of strong color contrast which associated fast rhythm and lax image such as the counter melody of smooth Jazz. In that result, Jazz image with auditory feelings could suggest the various design motive and new idea to fashion design.

Today, mobile phone is a necessity of modern life. For that reason, we suggest a particular system of a mobile phone which take a picture of music score image and automatically play it without any technical knowledges about the music score information. This experiment makes midi, acknowleging separate symbols via preprocessing to music score image taken. This paper utilizes 11 sorts of the score image taken by a mobile phone camera for this experiment. Through this method we suggest, as much as 98% on average takes place, which is very high recognizing ratio. Also, as we introduce this system in a mobile phone by porting, it takes 8.63 seconds on average to create midi following input of images.

The purpose of this paper is to explore a brief review of trends in existing geographical research on music and to analyze music by the 5 themes of geography and to explore a variety of classroom techniques which examine song lyrics for their geographic content. The results of this paper are summarized as followed : Firstly, the trends in geographical research on music can be classified into five areas, the first is on spatial diffusion in music, the second on spatial diffusion in music, the third on regional division in music, the fourth on regional characteristics in music, the fifth on pedagogical tools in the teaching of geography. Secondly, music holds numerous possibilities for regional geographical study. The lyrics of music are littered with geographical term through which song writers impart image of culture, the distinct geographical nature of music lyrics gives rise to many geographical question, also, music lyrics gives place its special character. The results of analyses by the 5 themes of geography indicate that music are useful to learning of regional geography. The application of music to learning regional geography attracts much attentions. In the respect of importance of learning new regional geography, and in the respect of adapting globalization have to be focused on this subject.
