  • Recently, According to increasing interest to original sound Karaoke instrument, MIDI type karaoke manufacturer attempt to make more cheap method instead of original recoding method. In this paper, we developed how to create MR from AR, recorded in stereo, by using the energy difference in the frequency domain and how to implement in DSP(TMS320C6713) were developed. At the output of the DSP board, 6-channel audio output interface designed for real-time stereophonic generating original sound, vocals removed MR, and separated vocals simultaneously. Real-time listening test using DSP show vocal separating and removal task successfully.

  • In this study, we propose an automatic melody extraction algorithm using deep learning. In this algorithm, feature images, generated using the energy of frequency band, are extracted from polyphonic audio files and a deep learning technique, a convolutional neural network (CNN), is applied on the feature images. In the training data, a short frame of polyphonic music is labeled as a musical note and a classifier based on CNN is learned in order to determine a pitch value of a short frame of audio signal. We want to build a novel structure of melody extraction, thus the proposed algorithm has a simple structure and instead of using various signal processing techniques for melody extraction, we use only a CNN to find a melody from a polyphonic audio. Despite of simple structure, the promising results are obtained in the experiments. Compared with state-of-the-art algorithms, the proposed algorithm did not give the best result, but comparable results were obtained and we believe they could be improved with the appropriate training data. In this paper, melody extraction and the proposed algorithm are introduced first, and the proposed algorithm is then further explained in detail. Finally, we present our experiment and the comparison of results follows.

  • An understanding of the history of laryngology is both interesting and useful for those in the field so this study attempts to uncover some of the interesting aspects of its history. The oldest reference of laryngology in the Orient is in the medical documents called the "Whangjainaekyung",(황제내경) which was written over a time period between 3000-4000 B.C., and described the laryngeal function of respiration, protection of the airway and phonation. In the West, a drawing that seems to portray a tracheostomy was found in medical tombs in the plains of Saqqara in Egypt. These drawings date from approximately 3600 B.C. A watershed in laryngology occurred when a spanish music professor named Manuel Garcia in first successfully used a mirror to inspect the larynx. Since that time, laryngology has developed relatively quickly and clinical laryngology made it possible by means of a number of favorable developments. Great advances in laryngological diagnosis and treatment has occurred since the 1970s thanks to improvements in technology leading to the introduction of an operating microscope, endoscopes and lasers. Despite our recent advances in laryngology, we still have not achieved uniformly favorable outcomes and there is much that we do not know. Our future promises continued advances in the field of laryngology such as gene therapy to improve wound healing and tissue engineering to allow the recreation of normal mucosa. In this review, I divide the history of the larynx into the past, present and future. In the last section, I described the history of laryngology in Korea briefly.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method for extracting predominant melody of polyphonic music based on harmonic structure. Harmonic structure is an important feature parameter of monophonic signal that has spectral peaks at the integer multiples of its fundamental frequency. We extract all fundamental frequency candidates contained in the polyphonic signal by verifying the required condition of harmonic structure. Then, we combine those harmonic peaks corresponding to each extracted fundamental frequency and assign a rank to each after calculating its harmonic average energy. We run pitch tracking based on the rank of extracted fundamental frequency and continuity of fundamental frequency, and determine the predominant melody. For the query by singing/humming (QbSH) task, we proposed Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) based matching engine. Our system reduces false alarm by combining the distances of multiple DTW processes. To improve the performance, we introduced the asymmetric sense, pitch level compensation, and distance intransitiveness to DTW algorithm.

  • Objectives : The objective of the current study is to optimize an acupoint electrical property measurement system by using the procedures and strengths of the Taguchi method. Methods : Taguchi method was applied in the optimization of the acupoint electrical property measurement system, as in the following steps: (1) determine evaluation index; (2) execute the 1st gage R&R; (3) identify controllable and uncontrollable factors; (4) design Taguchi crossed array layout; (5) execute experiments according to trial conditions; (6) analyze testing results; (7) determine optimum run; (8) execute the 2nd gage R&R; (9) confirm optimum run. Results : The results showed that electrodes with larger diameter and efferent electric current, with music played, can produce the larger different electrical conductivity between the acupoints and the non-acupoints under various conditions. Taguchi process optimization improved repeatability and reproducibility of the acupoint electrical property measurement system. Conclusions : In the optimized condition, repeatability and reproducibility of the acupoint electrical property measurement system was acceptable.

  • Deep neural network that effectively capture the characteristics of data has been widely used in various applications. However, the amount of sound database is often insufficient for learning the deep neural network properly, so resulting in overfitting problems. In this paper, we propose a transfer learning framework that can effectively train the deep neural network even with insufficient sound event data by employing rich speech or music data. A series of experimental results verify that proposed method performs significantly better than the baseline deep neural network that was trained only with small sound event data.

  • A basic experiment was performed to control tile plant growth using acoustic emission technique considering the environmental conditions for plant. At a dry soil condition, the signals due to the cavitation from xylem of angiosperm and gymnosperm were mainly detected. The strong signal from xylem and the weak signal from plasmodesmata and casparian strip were detected at the same time after distilled water was provided. Two signals after providing tile acid and distilled water were contrary to each other. The wind, number of leaf, music, temperature and humidity affected the acoustic emission count from plants but the frequency ranges of the detected signals were the same.

  • Harmony Search(HS) algorithm is an emerging meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, which is inspired by the music improvisation process and has been successfully applied to solve different optimization problems. In order to further improve the performance of HS, this paper proposes a new method which is called Fast Harmony Search(FSH) algorithm. For the purpose, this paper suggest a method to unify two independent improvisation processes by newly defining the boundary value of a object variable using HM. As the result, the process time of the algorithm is shorten and explicit decision of bandwidth is no more needed. Furthermore, exploitative power of random selection is improved. The numerical results reveal that the proposed algorithm can find better solutions and is faster when compared to the conventional HS.
