Viewing Path Search and Congestion Control Algorithms For Comfortable Museum Viewing (편안한 박물관 관람을 위한 관람 경로 탐색 및 혼잡제어 알고리즘)

  • Today, many museums are changing their forms with ubiquitous environment. Unlike traditional museums providing only static text-based information attached to its corresponding artifacts to visitors, those ubiquitous museums provide not only artifacts' text information, but also many different forms of information such as sound or media through personal digital assistance or cell phones. However, these existing ubiquitous museums still provide each visitor only with artifact-centric information in very simple ways. Also this disadvantageous feature causes high gallery congestion problem resulting from providing a uniform path for every visitor. These limitations may be the biggest barrier to providing more various and useful information about artifacts to visitors through considering each visitor's preference. This paper propose a new optimal viewing path search algorithm to provide comfortable museum viewing for each visitor according to its preference. Also, a new congestion control method is developed to protect visitors from being put in some hot spots on their museum viewing, improving its comfort to a maximum.

A Study on the Stay affordance for Visual Perception factors in Experience Exhibition Space - With Focus on Gyeonggi Children Museum - (체험전시공간 시지각적요소의 체류지원성향상을 위한 연구 - 경기도 어린이박물관을 중심으로 -)

  • Today, the children's museum evolved from place of exhibition for seeing and feeling, to that of exhibition for searching and touching, or so-called the hands-on exhibition. This will allow for grabbing the interest from children and provide an opportunity for learning by an actual experience at this intellectual and benign environment. But in this modern society that constantly undergoes evolution even as we speak, it is not an easy task to bring our children to museums, because they are vastly exposed to various media. Moreover, if the children who visited museums carelessly bypass the specific areas intended for exhibition, the educational purpose of "enhanced learning effect with hands-on experience" is easily underachieved. According to children's visual stimuli, their behavioral charactoristics are appeared to freewill curiosity but they show shorter elapsed time(impermanence), intensity(stubbornness), frequent occurrence(frequentness) and changeable (translatability). So, We need Improvement of visual image affordance through the measurement of stay time. Firstly, five factors are extracted by factor analysis on twenty questions based on visual image factors; Color accessability and Satistaction(factor1), brightness and color harmony(factor2), feeling on harmonization of color and stay time(factor3), simplex & complex of space(factor4), feeling on scale(factor5) Secondly, the following result are derived through a distribution chart on an exhibition room of K-museum. As shown above, this study based on various analyzed aspects proposes the directions of a color image plan to improve stay time in exhibition space of children museums with a hope to support educational goals of experience education-focused children museums.

  • This study investigates human-robot interactions in a museum environment. Unlike robots in movies, robots in real life do not have 'personality,' but instead have a specific purpose and function. This research is primarily about the assignment of specific and appropriate personalities to robots in different contexts. Methods by which a definite personality can be imparted on a robot are discussed in this research. Previous research has addressed attempts to assign a robot personality based on the task context. However, the discussion of robot personality is incomplete. Therefore, we assumed that a robot's character was dependent on the characteristics of its location of use. We planned a $2{\times}2$ comparison of various robot personalities, i.e., introverted or extroverted paired with either a traditional museum or a process-oriented experiential experience. Based on Schmitt's (1999) strategic experiential modules, experiential factors were derived for each set of conditions. To achieve the objectives of the research, theoretical and empirical research were conducted simultaneously. The software JMP 9 was used to verify the research model and hypotheses.

Cleaning Fabricated Metal Thread: A Post-treatment Stability Assessment after Artificial Deterioration and the Application of Synthetic Soil

  • To study the cleaning effects and post-treatment stability assessment of various methods of cleaning textiles with metal thread, six naturally-soiled historical textiles with metal thread were investigated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Prior to the cleaning of fabricated gold, silver, and copper thread that had been glued onto a paper substrate, the artificial deterioration was carried out in a controlled environment with light(UV and daylight), and temperature and humidity factors which would weaken and damage the samples. A synthetic soil mixture was applied to the samples to imitate soil found on the historic and archaeological textiles with metal thread; the cleaning effect and post-treatment assessment were investigated by use of three textile cleaning methods: mechanical cleaning, wet cleaning, and solvent cleaning. While investigating the naturally-soiled textiles with metal thread, it was determined that the soil colors and sizes of contaminating particles of each textile were different due to the diversity of original environmental factors and conditions. After cleaning with kneaded rubber, Stoddard solvent, n-decane or n-hexane, a bright, clean effect was apparent. Kneaded rubber was successful in picking up both large and small particles, but its stickiness caused some of the metal leaf to peel off. Stoddard solvent produced a good cleaning effect, but after use of n-hexane and n-decane in the cleaning process, a white layer of residue remained on the textile's surface. Wet cleaning was not effective and the rapid humidity changes between wet and dry conditions caused the edges of the paper substrate to lose their original shape.

  • The number of galleries across the country is increasing as interest in cultural life increases due to the increase in national income. However, museum satisfaction is relatively low compared to other services. In this paper, we propose a service that provides preference information based on machine learning in embedded system environment in order to increase museum satisfaction. The proposed algorithm implements an embedded system using Raspberry Pi. Machine learning was used to find works similar to the viewer's favorite works, and several models were compared to select models applicable to embedded systems. By using the preference information, it is possible to effectively organize the gallery exhibition contents to increase the exhibition satisfaction and the re-visit rate of the museum.

Hydration Characteristics and Chemical Composition of Lead-glazed Paving Bricks Excavated from the Beopgwangsa Temple Site, Pohang (포항 법광사지 납유 전돌의 수화 양상과 화학조성)

  • This study investigated seven specimens of lead-glazed paving bricks in order to identify the materialistic characteristics of the lead glaze used for paving bricks during the late Unified Silla period in Korea. The samples were excavated from the Beopgwangsa Temple site, Pohang. As a result of observing the surface and cross-section of the glaze with a microscope, the study confirmed that the lead glaze demonstrates various traits of hydration, which were classified into four layers: Surface layer, hydration layer A, hydration layer B, and green layer. After measuring the composition of each layer with SEM-EDS analysis, the green layer was found to have been less affected by the external environment, which renders it highly reasonable to view the green layer as the original composition of the lead glaze. The green layer is a low-temperature glaze composed mainly of PbO and SiO2 at a ratio of 8:2, with approximately 2% CuO acting as the main colorant. Comparing the green layer composition with those from Gyeongsang-do, it was confirmed that the mixture ratio of lead glaze materials was similar to other sites such as the Sacheonwangsa Temple site, the Cheonryongsa Temple site, and the Buseoksa Temple site.

  • As artificial intelligence develops, AI chatbot systems are actively taking place. For example, in public institutions, the use of chatbots is expanding to work assistance and professional knowledge services in civil complaints and administration, and private companies are using chatbots for interactive customer response services. In this study, we propose a scenario-based AI voice chatbot system to reduce museum operating costs and provide interactive guidance services to visitors. The implemented voice chatbot system consists of a watcher object that detects the user's voice by monitoring a specific directory in real-time, and an event handler object that outputs AI's response voice by performing inference by model sequentially when a voice file is created. And Including a function to prevent duplication using thread and a deque, GPU operations are not duplicated during inference in a single GPU environment.

  • Under social changes focusing diversification, human-oriented ecological values and emotional and pscyhological satisfaction have been considered more important in space. Such trend has developed into interest in the effect of architectural space and shape on human perception and consciousness, and space has been considered as interactive in ecological, psychological and behavioral, and aesthetic terms rather than physical environment. In particular, exhibition space where interactive sympathy between environment and users through emotional experiences is more important, can have appropriate interaction through intended relationships between environment and humans in space. Therefore, this study aims to understand affordance, an internal mechanism of space recognition and human behaviors. Then it analysed representative types of exhibition space for emotional experiences as a characteristic of affordance Based on the results analysed, it is expected that introduction of affordance as real information in space will be helpful for effective connection of space with human emotional experiences.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to look into the relationship between pavilion and exhibit in Rodin Gallery. Rodin Gallery is intended to accommodate The Gates of Hell and The Burghers of Calais, two materpieces by the French sculptor Auguste Rodin. In order to retain Rodin's intent, the museum designed by KPF is constructed primarily of glass, which maximizes natural light and minimizes shadows. Thematically, the Glass Pavilion was designed to provide a place of relaxation in a highly urban environment.
