In the modern era, perceived as the century of culture, the pure meaning of information in various medium is becoming extinct and the distinction between media and reality being faded away. Such phenomenon is called "simulracre". Gilles Deleuze defines "simulracre" as an event that passes by momentarily. To the modern people, the museum should be sublimated into a space that reflects not only the various surroundings but also education and should be a space that can provide diverse experiences. For museum exhibit communication, storytelling is a method that can meet the need of audience and take one step forward in educational and emotion aspect. Considering such relationship, "event" can be an evidence to build a space by establishing relations with subject and determine the meaning of space. First, characteristics of event and requisite and the theoretical view of storytelling will be examined, followed by the analysis of event storytelling by selecting Holocaust Museum which attempted a new approach that has dealt with what is important to the Jews: 'holocaust'. The purpose of this study is to identify how "event", not remaining as an abstract term, is being present in Holocaust Museum with a new spatial perspective, and to provide the public with a different set of thinking and experience.
There are many ways to know the social and cultural level of each country. Among them, a theme museum are not only the best place to understand the history, the life style and the culture level. This thesis has the purpose to provide the basic material through analyzing the space composition and the visitor circulation of the theme museum and understanding the relativity of them so that the new theme museums can be designed in the right direction. So I chose the independence museum that opened with in recent 10 years, finally middle & small size's theme museum were selected. The results from the case study are as follow. Firstly, according to a result of analyzing the characteristics of space composition with the ratio of each part's area, space composition of each museum is mainly for the exhibition part, but rarely for the education part. Secondly, theme museums in Jeju have the limit of diversity of circulation method because they have not the free circulation method. Thirdly, the characteristics of space composition is divided into basic type, center-hall enter type, around the center-hall type and guidance type. Fourthly, by analyzing the characteristics of space composition and circulation method of traffic line, it's realized that selective circulation method was applied to basic type and center-hall enter type, and guidance circulation method was applied to around the center-hall type and guidance type.
Museums have recently been expanding their roles as education providers to use websites to provide a variety of information and services including educational programs. In order to better perform their roles as education providers, it is important for museums to commit themselves to making their websites accessible and easy for everyone to use, in compliance with web accessibility. 20 of museum websites were chosen to study the state of web accessibility of domestic museum websites, and were evaluated by using an automated web accessibility evaluation tool called the K-WAH 4.4. And then, we analyze the compliance rates of web accessibility based on 6 Requirements in the KWCAG 2.1. As a Result, only two museums satisfy the compliance rates on 6 Requirements and national & public museums are higher than private museums in compliance rates. So, to improve web accessibility, we comply with accessibility guidelines and design web contents. After witch we should improve web accessibility by modifying insufficient requirements immediately through periodical evaluations.
I was a summer intern in 1977 in the Smithsonian Institution, assigned to the Dept. of Anthropology at the Museum of Natural History under the sponsorship of the JDR 3rd Fund (Ro ckefeller Foundation). The major part of the training program consisted of m
Recently with increasing interest in the natural science history education, a lot of natural science museums have been developed in various locations. This project is located in one of the biggest Paleozoic site, Taebak Kangwon-do. This kind museum has had important rolls in terms of education for student, destination for traveling and reservation of important holdover of the old ages. To do those kind of parts, this project has been designed with concepts and themes like; i. being organized with story telling structure with theme "secret of life and earth from Taebak" ii. combining experiences between outdoor experimental search for the real fossils and indoor educational interactions with real size model and moving films. iii. designing with strong identities of Paleozoic era. For the design identities the outer appearance was designed with motive of trilbites in an abstract way and inside was finished with exposed concrete and various size of moving films projected to walls and floor to emphasize real scale experience of the old ages.
The purpose of this study was to examine a) each of the selected science museums for its role in educating on ethical issues in science and technology, b) what are the most frequently dealt ethical themes in science and technology; c) how were those themes presented (via exhibition, play, panel, movies, etc); and d) identify common characteristics in the selected science museums' presentations of ethical issues. The results indicated that selected museums present ethical issues related to technology development, mainly on biotechnology and environmental issues. The type of presentations dealing with ethical issues most frequently were exhibitions, panels and simulations, followed by demonstrations and lectures. All of the selected museums had common characteristics for actively taking an educational role in ethical issues in science. The study suggests that efforts to communicate the ethical issues in various areas should be reinforced to educate students and the public, and that it may be the museum's role to expose ethical aspects of technology related to human rights, dignity, health and development issues from the early stage of its development.
