  • This study examines secondary school science teachers' use of science museums in their teaching and their perception/evaluation/utilization of the educational programs in Korean science museums. We found that teachers do not use science museums in close connection with their formal education; therefore, the students' experiences usually are minimal or are personal experiences. The main reason for this infrequent use of science museums is not because of their insignificant educational effects, but because of the lack of external and administrative support systems. Science teachers want the museums to have structured/organized programs such as science camps or experiments and a lending program which would provide experimental equipment and exhibits relevant to the school science curriculum. 90% of teachers who answered the survey wanted to participate in developing and managing the educational programs of science museums. The educational programs would be used more effectively in relation to formal science learning if the science teachers, who are science education professionals, participated in managing and planning the educational programs of science museums.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide a master plan for the establishment of a Korean National Museum of Natural History. The origin and development of the natural history and the natural history museum were surveyed by visiting not only Korean natural history museums but also foreign ones from 1987 to 2009. Based on the obtained information, the qualitative and quantitative status of Korean natural history museums was comparatively analyzed in terms of globalization. Results indicated that Korean natural history museums ranked more than 100th in the world, and the research, management, and publications were situated in a rudimentary stage. Particularly, the number of researchers within the area was too small, and the research environment was poor in its function and resources. In addition, the specialists on exhibition and education of the museums were too few to publish the research products and academic journal articles. For that matter, a strategy as the research-specimen management-publication-exhibition-education functions should be in place to operate before the construction of National Museum of Natural History begins.

Research design, data, and methodology: This study analyzed online-based science museums services trends. The data was collected based on the cases of five national science museums. To understand the characteristics of science museum's online services, we analyzed the status of digital content provided by each science museum and the operation method of online special exhibitions. Result: The national science museums provided online services through virtual science museums, SNS, and YouTube. However, the services still imposed limitation on facilitating active learning for visitors. In the case of SNS and YouTube, it is only a one-time promotional tool. Conclusion: This study suggests the need for concrete measures to utilize the abundant content accumulated so far in actual education. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of content development incorporating new platforms.

  • A museum's collections is fundamental factors to construct important activity of museum performing a role as cultural facility for learning, education and research. Therefore, conservation of collections through appropriate environments is previously established in step of planing a museum. Hereby, the purpose of this study is to set up the classification of collections and suggest a useful guidance of the storage division in a domestic museum. The results of this study are as follows. First, the main factors of deterioration are temperature and relative humidity in a museum storage, so classification of collections should be set up according to the objective standards of these factors. Second, the classification of collections can be performed as follow: the group for nonorganic materials subdivide metal, chinaware, earthenware, and jade stone, the group for organic materials subdivide leather hair paper fabric, bone horn shell mound and wood herbage and the group for composed materials. Third, for storage division of a domestic museum, basically has to consider that it is reasonable to plan $4{\sim}5$ storages in metal, jade stone, chinaware earthenware, and organic materials of $1{\sim}2$ units in case of a serial of history like archaeological, antique museum. And in case of folk relics of modern and contemporary arts are collected, it is reasonable to plan over 5 storages add composed materials to foregoing classification.

  • Museums have developed various needs of the visitors and exhibits over the past two centuries. Currently, they have multiple functions of display, conservation, research and public education about artworks and cultural events. Therefore, exhibits should be displayed in various ways so that visitors can feel inter-relations with exhibits. The exhibition areas of museums should be provided with the stable lighting environment for visitors and artworks. For the study, I selected four museums, which were the Seoul Museum, the Mimesis Art Museum, the Seoul Museum of Art in Nowon and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Gwacheon, and I measured illumination levels of the selected Museums, and then, I surveyed the visitors' responses on the lighting conditions of them. According to the results, the measurements of the illumination levels in the four museums showed that the illumination levels of them were effectively controlled to display the art works. However, the illuminance levels at some areas that drew the natural light as lighting source were much higher than recommended illumination values for museum. In the mean time, the answers of questionnaires showed that the natural light were so effective to light the museums although the natural light provided some areas with high illumination levels.

  • Children's museum has roles of the characterized place for children as well as the museum for education. Therefore, specific color selection especially for children is one of the most important points to be considered. This study is the short investigation on various interior color systems of children's museums in Korea. In case of Children's Museum in National Museum of Korea, each exhibition area is apparently divided by adopting colors in accord with the subject of each space. Middle color in that museum generally gives stability, and clear color and accent color give better perception and vitality Children's folk Museum has adopted Korean traditional colors, O-Bang Colors, which have indicated Korean tradition for ages. All sections in Incheon Children's Museum are spatially divided, but similar colors of ceiling, wall, and floor give boring atmosphere. Since original colors of furniture in Science section distract attraction of children, proper color selection should be required for better reaction from children. Therefore, this research is aiming for detailed investigation in color system of children's museum and the proper interior color planning of the next children's museums with their main purpose for children in the future.

Since both museums specialize in comics and provide diverse information related to comics and their museums, this research analyze them on the basis of three types of categories, which are public relations content, professional content, and exhibition/education content The result shows that both museums generally provide similar type of information and content even though there are small differences. Especially, they have common points in the way that both offer detailed information of museum facilities and about exhibition schedules and education programs. However, the goal they are aiming at shows a difference.
