The Cultural History of Mureung Valley, the Scenic Site designated as National Cultural Property (동해 무릉계(武陵溪) 명승 탄생의 문화사적(文化史的) 배경)

  • Mureung Valley was designed as a place of scenic beauty. It was called a utopia because of its unexplored regions. Many people traveled to this place and wrote poetry and prose describing it. It represented a culturally historic site and an example of the changing of cultural spaces. Mureung Valley was one of the nameless valleys in Duta Mountain, but "Mureunggye" was named by Kim Hyon Won, who was a governor of Samcheok.. The valley acquired a reputation for many people's visiting. It was a famous space because local residents liked the place, and famous people also loved the place. This place was adapted into a cultural place with a link to the immortal world and an educational place by people's travel stories. The place maintained a reputation until now and took center stage as a famous travel space. One of the reasons it became a place of famous scenic beauty is travel. People who travel to Mureung Valley created poetry and prose containing their excitement and travel stories. As the poetry and prose had esthetic images of Mureung Valley, people understood the place. The poetry and prose showed the meaning of the place and the changing process. These codified the reputation in the place. Mureung Valley was pointed out in one of the Cheokju-Palkyoungs. However, Mugye-Palkyoung (only for Mureung Valley) was made. It was understood as the most beautiful scenery in the place and it had the meaning of the ethics place which embodied Neo Confucianism. Mureung Valley has a great natural landscape and cultural history background. That is how this place of scenic beauty was created.

Topographic Tourism Resources of Mureung Valley in Donghae-si: Analysis and Valuation (동해 무릉계곡의 지형관광자원 분석과 평가)

  • This study investigated and analyzed the topographic landscape resources of Mureung Valley in Donghae-si from the viewpoint of geotourism in order to suggest the tourism contents and tour course. A total of 29 topographic landscapes were observed; these are broadly divided into 4 features including weathering landform, mountainous landform, fluvial landform, and structural landform. Major topographies are fluvial landform (13) and weathering landform (12). At least 19 topographies (14 sites, 19 topographic landscapes) are currently used as tourism resources, with 10 topographies having potential to be developed as new tourism resources. The 10 topographic landscapes are as follows: (1) Jamryong Bawi (Hidden Dragon Rock), (2) Janggipan Bawi (Korean Chessboard Rock), (3) Nurungji Bawi (Parched Rice Rock), (4) Damjang Bawi (Fence Rock), (5) Gyedan Bawi (Stairs Rock), (6) Heundeul Bawi (Rocking Rock), (7) Jeopsi Bawi (Dish Rock), (8) Dol Umul (Stone Well), (9) Jogak Bawi (Carved Rock), and (10) Dubu Bawi (Topu Rock). The topographic tour course can be divided into 3 routes considering accessibility and time. Route 1 is a basic one that anyone can easily use; Route 2 and 3 can be used by visitors who have more time to spare or who are more active.

A Study on Flash Flood Warning Trigger Rainfall in Mountainous Area (산악지역 돌발홍수 기준우량 결정에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the critical flood discharge and flash flood trigger rainfall for alarm system providing for a flash flood in mountainous area. The flash flood need non-linear approaching method, because rainfall-runoff is nonlinear and it is difficult to explain the existing linear rainfall-runoff. Hydrological characteristics would be utilized to apply such as hydrologic modelling or basin management. This study was effectively estimated a topographic characteristic factor of basin using the GIS. Especially, decided stream order using GIS at stream order decision that is important for input variable of GCIUH. A flash floods defined as a flood which follows shortly after a heavy or excessive rainfall event, with a few hours. In this study, we gave a definition that a critical flood for alarm is the flood when valley depth judging dangerous depth is over 0.5m depth from the bottom of channel. Result that calculate threshold discharge to use GCIUH, at the Mureung valley basin, flash flood trigger rainfall was 16.34mm in the first 20minutes when the threshold discharge was $14.54m^3/sec$.

  • The study which it sees probably is the tourist' from the tourist resort, a emotional response and the change of stay hour and the follows in crowding perceived degree and it examines it does. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, carried out literature study of a related field and set up a study model. We used one method. The first method was directly distributing questionnaires to tourist' by use of one researcher who has been trained in tourist site, in order to confirm hypothesis established according to a theoretical background. And as the site of study, chose Mureung Valley which are located in the East Sea region which is one of the largest domestic vacation destinations. Through these methods, we were able to obtain participation of 450 people from across the country. Using 408 responses(42 responses removed). we derived statistics by means of Win SPSS Version 10.0 statistics program package. The analysis results ara as follows: First, Perceived Crowding affects tourists' Emotional Response and the Stay hour change. Specially, perceived Crowding is from in the Emotional Response factor it is joyful with there is relationship of excitation relationship effect. Second, There is relationship of effect even to sentimental reaction and stay hour change. This also is from in the Emotional Response factor it is joyful with there is relationship of excitation relationship effect. Finally, we discuss the results of analysis and suggest research limitation and future and future study.
