  • Energy recovery technology from municipal solid waste has been increasingly established in many countries. Anaerobic treatment of municipal sewage sludge has low digestion efficiency because of low organic loading rate of sewage sludge. The purpose of this study was to evaluate anaerobic biodegradability of food waste which was based on organic loading rate and seeding rate. From the results of anaerbic biodegration, the optimum condition for seeding rate was turn out over 40%, which did not inhibition of methane production.

  • The removal effect of total nitrogen in municipal wastewater by decreasing hydraulic retention time(HRT) from 6 hour to 4 hour on MNR process was not decreased.. The removal efficiencies of nutrient removal process combining A2/O process with media for T-N were 63.1% in the reactor operated 6 hour, and 73.5% in the reactor operated 5 hour and 77.0% in the reactor operated 4 hour.

  • In 2014, Seongnam municipal government announced Sanseongro Commercial Area Revitalization including Dandae traditional market with active support of Seongnam municipal government. This study investigated conversion of Dandae market into specialized market to overcome economic stagnation and to make success case of wedding market. The study suggested supplementation of current problems as well as incidental businesses. The study gave SWOT analysis and management reformation to make success case of specialized market and to suggest win-win strategies and development plans to produce wedding market.

  • Municipal solid waste disposal is considered as one of the most important risks for environmental contamination which necessitates the development of strategies to reduce destructive consequences on the ecosystem as related especially to heavy metal accumulation. This study investigates heavy metal (i.e., As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) accumulation in the Tonekabon region, NW of Iran that is related to city waste disposal and evaluates the environmental impact in the Caspian Sea coastal region. For this purpose, after performing field studies and collecting 50 soil specimens from 5 sites of the study area, geochemical tests (i.e., inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, atomic absorption spectroscopy and x-ray fluorescence) were conducted on the soil specimens collected from the 5 sites (named as Sites A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5) and the results were used to estimate the pollution indices (i.e., geo-accumulation index, normalized enrichment factor, contamination factor, and pollution load index). The obtained indices were utilized to assess the eco-toxicological risk level in the landfill site which indicated that the city has been severely contaminated by Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn. These levels have been developed along the stream towards the nearshore areas indicating uptake of soil degradation. The heavy metal contamination was classified to range from unpolluted to highly polluted, which indicated serious heavy metal pollution in the study area as related to municipal solid waste disposal in Tonekabon.

  • This research was performed to investigate the generation and physico-chemical characteristics of municipal solid wastes in the east coast of gangwon. The results were as follows: i) The generation rate of G city and Y gun were 0.187-0.384 $\cal{kg/cap/d}$ and 0.136-0.259 $\cal{kg/cap/d}$. Apparent density of G city and Y gun were 137.9-191.9 g/L and 157.3-238.3 g/L, respectively. ii) The wastes consisted of $76.1-97.5\%$ of combustibles and $2.5-23.9\%$ of incombustibles in G city. And the wastes consisted of $73.7-98.6\%$ of combustibles and $1.4-26.3\%$ of incombustibles in Y gun. Most of municipal solid wastes are composed of food, paper, and vinyl-plastics waste. Water content of commercial area, agricultural resident, detached resident, apartment area, school zone were 42.5-45.9, 37.6-43.4, 32.4-38.4, 29.3-32.3, $6.8-26.9\%$, respectively. iii) The low heating value of G city and Y gun were 1,125.5-2,540.7 $\cal{kcal/kg}$, 1,104.4-2,062.3 $\cal{kcal/kg}$, and school and apartment area were higher than commercial area.

  • In order to investigate the quantitative and qualitative properties of leachate with different composition of MSW in solid waste landfill, three lysimeters filled with bottom ash only (Lysimeter A), bottom ash 70%+municipal solid waste 30% (Lysimeter B), and municipal solid waste only (Lysimeter C) respectively were operated under actual meteorological conditions. From the results, Lysimeter A and Lysimeter B were much higher than Lysimeter C in terms of cumulative generation rates of leachate. The pH in leachate from Lysimeter A are in the range of pH 9 to 11, however, the pH of the leachate was gradually changed to the neutral with time. In the case of $Cl^-$, leachates from Lysimeter A and B with bottom ash have high $Cl^-$ concentration whereas leachate produced from Lysimeter C has low $Cl^-$ concentration. In the Lysimeter C with municipal solid waste only, concentration of organic materials in the leachate was much higher than that of leachate produced from the other Lysimeters.
