  • This paper analyses the economic effects of the water industry on the Korean economy by using Social Accounting Matrix (SAM). The SAM is constructed based on the Input-Output table, National account and Family income and expenditure survey for Korea in 2009. Through the SAM multiplier analysis, I estimate the effects of water investment. As the results, this study has found the followings. i) output multiplier effects of water sector are 5.300~7.741, ii) value added multiplier effects of water sector are 0.685~1.158, iii) income multiplier effects of water sector are 0.511~0.984, iv) redistributed income multiplier effects of water sector are -0.096~0.247. The results indicate that a significant influence on the industrial production and the household income in Korea.

  • We measure and compare externalities of IT and R&D capital stocks in different Korean industry sectors using inter-industry input-output tables of 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2000. We also compute the multiplier effects that relate to the directions of future economic effects. The key findings are as follows. First, we observed continuous capital deepening in all nine industries over the period of 1985 to 2000. Second, the backward multipliers of IT capital were the highest in the manufacturing industry. As for inter-industry externalities, the indirect backward multipliers, which exclude intra-industry backward multiplier effects within the industry, were also the highest in the manufacturing industry. Third, the forward multiplier effects of IT capital stock were the most substantial in the construction industry during the 1980s and in the manufacturing industry thereafter. Finally, using the transition multiplier matrix reflecting the backward effects of the two capitals in the past, the economic backward effects, especially the external economic effects, are predicted to increase through 2010 among all industries. The above findings suggest that, in order to maximize the forward and backward effects of the ever-increasing IT capital, we need to formulate an industry policy reducing the cost of capital accumulation in the manufacturing industry through improvement in productivity of the IT industry.

  • Key goal of the study is to analyze the economical ripple effect by the digital contents industry. In this study, the results of analysis of multiplier effects of digital contents industry can be summaries as follows: (1) Output multiplier for the manufacturing sector was the highest with value of 3.0509 while that of digital contents industry is the lowest at 1.6511. (2) Employment multiplier is the lowest for the manufacturing sector with value of 4.2895, while that of digital contents industry is the lowest with value of 1.0238. (3) Income multiplier is the lowest for the manufacturing sector with value of 5.3331, while that of digital contents industry is the lowest with value of 1.0081. Therefore, digital contents industry is clearly a new-growth power industry in the future rather than in the present.

  • We measure and compare inducements of energy consumption in different industry sectors using inter-industry input and output tables of 1995, 2000 and 2005. We also compute the multiplier effects that relate to the directions of future economic effects. Key Findings are as follows. First, we observe continues decreasing linkage effects in all industries over period of 1995 to 2007. Second, backward multiplier of energy consumption were highest in the material related industry and chemical industry. As for inter-industry inducements, the indirect backward multipliers were high in the other industry. Third, the forward multiplier effect of energy consumption were as same as the backward multiplier effect's sectors. The indirect forward multipliers, however, were highest in the material related industry and chemical industry. The above findings show that since implementing pro-environmental policy in 2000s, the industries structure for reducing energy consumption has been transformed.

  • Pile foundations have been widely used in civil engineering construction for many years. Structures subjected to large lateral loads usually have pile foundations as shallow foundations cannot sometimes support the moments on these structure. The purpose of this paper is to propose the p - multiplier factor (P$\sub$M/) based on the characteristics of behavior of laterally loaded group pile in homogeneous sand. For this, a series of model tests are performed and the composite analytical method proposed by author is used to the propose P$\sub$M/. Based on the model test results of the large number of laterally loaded group piles, p - multiplier factors for homogeneous sand are proposed by back analysis under various condition of soil density, spacing-to-diameter ratio of pile, number of pile, and spacing-to-diameter of pile. P - multiplier approach provides a simple but sufficient tool for characterizing the shadowing group effects of laterally loaded group pile.

  • This paper presents an error compensation method for a fixed-width modified Booth multiplier that receives a W-bit input and produces a W-bit product. To efficiently compensate for the quantization error, Booth encoder outputs (not multiplier coefficients) are used for the generation of error compensation bias. The truncated bits are divided into two groups depending upon their effects on the quantization error. Then, different error compensation methods are applied to each group. By simulations, it is shown that quantization error can be reduced up to 50% by the proposed error compensation method compared with the existing method with approximately the same hardware overhead in the bias generation circuit. It is also shown that the proposed method leads to up to 40% reduction in area and power consumption of a multiplier compared with the ideal multiplier.

  • Shaking table tests are performed to evaluate the dynamic group pile effect in fine sand. Single pile tests and $2{\times}4$ group pile tests are performed on 3D pile spacing. Dynamic p-y backbone curves are obtained to evaluate dynamic group pile effect by using dynamic p-y curve of single pile. And dynamic group pile p-multiplier is estimated by dynamic p-y backbone curve. Dynamic p-multiplier can be calculated by using subground reaction ratio of dynamic p-y backbone curve which is the same displacement of p-y curve peak point As the result, dynamic group pile effects are evaluated in terms of a shaking frequency, a shaking acceleration, and a relative density. Dynamic group pile p-multiplier is the largest at lead pile, and the value decrease at middle pile and trail pile. p multiplier increases as increasing input acceleration and decreasing relative density. This results coincide with NCHRP's research which suggest p multiplier increases as increasing pile cap displacement.

  • The study has been conducted to investigate the relationship between yarn structural parameters such as diameter, twist multiplier and linear density, and mechanical properties of yarns measured by KES-F System. Each mechanical characteristic values per tex have non-linear relationship to the increment of yarn diameter, but as the linear density has increased, the mechanical characteristic values except for the bending characteristics have decreased linearly. It is, however, difficult to analyze obviously on the effects of twist multiplier even though the bending and the shear characteristic values were inclined to decrease. The effect of dyeing has also considered. The results are showing that yarn-dyed samples had higher effects than top-dyed ones on the mechanical characteristics.

  • A building block approach to generate an analog multiplier architecture is described. Several non-idealities including the effects of the mobility degradation present in a typical operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) are minimized by using a two cross coupled OTA structure. It is shown that the third-order harmonic distortion is cancelled even at high temperatures. It is proved that OTA based approach is suitable for analog singal processing at relatively high temperatures.

  • The inter-industrial inducement effects of the Korean railway services on the output, value-added, and imports of 383 industrial sectors of the Korean economy have been computed by the input-output analysis technique utilizing the '2013 Input-Output Statistics', which was published most recently in December 2015 by the Bank of Korea. The research results are, then, compared and contrasted with the former research results with the '2003 Input-0utput Statistics', which were published in the Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, August, 2008. The economic inducement effects computed in this study are as follows. The Korean railway service industry produced \5,841 billion worth of passenger and freight railroad services in the year 2013, and it induced \8,511 billion worth of output, \84 billion worth of value-added, and \1,050 billion worth of imports for Korean industry as a whole.; the production inducement multiplier, value-added multiplier, and imports inducement multiplier of 2013 results are shown to be quite different from 2003 multipliers.; it has been shown that it is necessary to utilize the most recent Input-Output Statistics for the computation of the most recent inter-industrial analysis.
