A Study on CSMA/CA for WLAN Environment

  • Recently, a basic access method about IEEE 802.11 MAC layer protocol using IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs is the DCF thatis based on the CSMA/CA. But, cause of IEEE 802.11 MAC layer uses original backoff algorithm (exponential backoff method), when collision occurred, the size of contention windows increases the double size. Also, a time of packet transmission delay increases and efficiency is decreased by original backoff scheme. In this paper, we have analyzed TCP packet transmission time of IEEE 802.11 MAC DCF protocol for wireless LANs a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm. It is considered the transmission time of transmission control protocol (TCP) packet on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rician fading channel. From the results, a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm produces a better performance improvement than an original backoff in wireless LAN environment. Also, in OFDM/quadrature phase shift keying channel (QPSK), we can achieve that the transmission time in wireless channel decreases as the TCP packet size increases and based on the data collected, we can infer the correlation between packet size and the transmission time, allowing for an inference of the optimal packet size in the TCP layer.

Throughput Analysis of ETSI BRAN HIPERLAN/2 MAC Protocol Taking Guard Timing Spaces into Consideration

  • In this paper we examine the effects of the required portions of guard timing spaces in a MAC frame of ETSI BRAN HIPERLAN/2 system such as inter-mobile guard timing space in UL(Up Link) duration, inter-RCH(Random CHannel) guard timing space, sector switch guard timing space. In particular, we calculate the number of OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) symbols required for these guard timing spaces in a MAC frame. We them evaluate the throughput of HIPERLAN/2 system as we vary parameter such as the guard time values defined in [2], the number of DLCCs(Data Link Control Connections), and the number of RCHs. Finally we show by numerical results that the portions for the 새심 summation of required guard timing spaces in a MAC frame are not negligible, and that they should be properly considered when trying to evaluate the performance of MAC protocol of HIPERLAN/2 system and also when determining the number of RCHs as well as the number of DLCCs in UL PDU trains at an AP/CC(Access Point/Central Controller).

  • 네트워크를 이용한 LED 조명의 제어는 최근 IP(Internet Protocol)을 이용한 조명 제어와 융합되어 단순한 디밍(Dimming)제어 뿐만 아니라, 미디어 파사드(Media facade), 카이네틱 아트(Kinetic Art)등의 새로운 조명 분야로 범위가 확대 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 다양화 되는 네트워크 기반의 제어 방식 중 DMX over IP 에 대하여 멀티케스트-다중화 방식(Multicast & Multiplexing)으로 분석 및 시뮬레이션 하였다. 그 결과 1 만개 이상의 채널 수를 가지는 규모가 큰(large volume) 조명 네트워크 시스템의 경우 채널의 개수 증가가 delay-throughput 에 영향이 적음을 알 수 있다.

PAPR Reduction Method of OFDM System Using Fuzzy Theory (Fuzzy 이론을 이용한 OFDM 시스템에서 PAPR 감소 기법)

  • Orthgonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) system is effective for the high data rate transmission in the frequency selective fading channel. In this paper we propose PAPR(Peak to Average Power Ratio) reduction method of problem in OFDM system used Fuzzy theory that often control machine. This thesis proposes PAPR reducing method of OFDM system using Fuzzy theory. The advantages for using Fuzzy theory to reduce PAPR are that it is easy to manage the data and embody the hardware, and required smaller amount of operation. Firstly, we proposed simple algorithm that is reconstructed at receiver with transmitted overall PAPR which is reduced PAPR of sub-block using Fuzzy. Although there are some drawbacks that the operation of the system is increased comparing conventional OFDM system and it is needed to send the information about Fuzzy indivisually, it is assured that the performance of the system is enhanced for PAPR reducing. To evaluate the perfomance, the proposed search algorithm is compared with the proposed algorithm in terms of the complementary cumulative distribution function(CCDF) of the PAPR and the computational complexity. As a result of using the QPSK and 16QAM modulation, Fuzzy theory method is more an effective method of reducing 2.3 dB and 3.1 dB PAPR than exiting OFDM system when FFT size(N)=512, and oversampling=4 in the base PR of $10^{-5}$.

  • In this paper, We propose variable cut-off frequency and variable sample rate small-area multi-channel digital filter for telemetry system. Proposed digital filter reduced hardware area by implementing filter banks that can variably use cut-off frequency and sample rate without additional filter banks for an arbitrary cut ratio. In addition, We propose the architecture in which sample rate can variably be selected according to the number of filters that pass through the multiplexer control. By using time division multiplexing (TDM) supported by the finite impulse response (FIR) intellectual property (IP) of Quartus, the proposed digital filter can greatly reduce digital signal processing (DSP) blocks from 80 to 1 compared without TDM. Proposed digital filter calculated order and coefficients using Kaiser window function in Matlab, and implemented using very high speed integrated circuits hardware descryption language (VHDL). After applying to the telemetry system, we confirmed that the proposed digital filter was operating through the experimental results in the test environment.

ETSI BRAN(Broadband Radio Access Network)의 무선 ATM 및 광대역 무선 액세스 네트워크 표준화 및 기술동향

  • ETSI BRAN (Broadband Radio Access Network)는 고속 무선 LAN 또는 고정 광대역 무선액세스 네트워크에서의 무선 접촉 계층과 ATM 및 IP(Internet Protocol) 코어 네트워크와의 연동을 위한 일부 기능을 표준화하기 위한 과제이다. 특히, BRAN의 HIPERLAN type-2(HIPERLAN/2)의 경우에는 과제의 범위는 무선 접속면, 무선 부시스템에서의 서비스 인터페이스, 서비스 구현에서 요구되는 연동 및 각종 지원 기능을 표준화하며, 무선 접속면의 경우에는 다수 벤더간의 상호 호환성을 제공할 수 있는 인터페이스를 구현하는 것이다. HIPERLAN/2의 기술 규격은 코어 네트워크와 독립적인 물리계층 및 데이터 링크 제어 (DATA Link Control: DLC) 계층과 서로 상이한 코어 네트워크와의 연동을 위한 네트워크 수렴 부계층을 다루게 될 것이며, 초기 단계에서는 ATM과 IP 코어 네트워크와의 연동 기능을 제시하게 될 것이다. 따라서 HIPERLAN/2기반의 시스템 규격을 제시하기 위해서는 네트워크 계층 및 기타 상위 계층에 대한 규격이 요규되며, 이는 ATM Forum에서의 무선 ATM 신호 방식 규격, IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)의 IP규격, 그리고 ETSI의 SMG (Special Mobile Group) 프로젝트에서 표준화되고 있는 UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service) 규격 등과 접목될 것이다. 결과적으로 무선 ATM 관점에서는 완전한 시스템 규격 작성은 ETSI BRAN과 ATM Forum에서 무선 접속 규격과 이동성 관리 및 신호 방식으로 각각 이원화되어 진행되고 있다. 현재 물리 계층에서의 전송 방식은 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)으로 확정되었으며, DLC 계층에서는 고정 길이의 TDD (Time Division Duplexing) TDMA 프레임 구조를 기반으로 AP (Access Point)에 의해 동적으로 상향 링크 자원을 예약 할당하는 매체 접근 제어 (Medium Access Control: MAC) 프로토콜이 고려되고 있다. 이와 같은 DLC 계층에서는 기본적으로 짧은 길이의 패킷을 통해 다양한 대역폭의 멀티미디어 트래픽을 효율적으로 수용하면서 ATM 네트워크뿐만 아니라 향후 IP 네트워크에서 요구하는 각 서비스별 QoS (Quality of Service)를 개별적으로 보장할 수 있는 기능을 구현하고자 한다. 향후 이 부문에 대한 표준화가 본격적으로 진행될 것으로 예상되며 HIPERLAN/2의 경우에는 1999년 중반까지 1차 기능 규격을 완료할 예정이며, BRAN 전반에 대한 완전한 규격을 2002년까지 완성하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.

VLSI Design and Implementation of Multimedia Transport Protocol for Reliable Networks

  • This dissertation deals with the design and VLSI implementation of the MTP(Multimedia Transport Protocol) protocol for the high speed networks. High throughput, functional diversity and flexible adaptation are key requirements for the future transport protocol. However it is very difficult to satisfy all these requirements simultaneously. Fortunately, the future networks will be very reliable. It means that the future transport protocol will usually perform some fixed functions without the protocol state information. According to this concept, we proposed and designed the MTP protocol that is consisted of Information Plane and Control Plane. Information Plane performs some fixed functions that are independent of the protocol state information as far as no error. However Control Plane manages the protocol state information and controls the operation of Information Plane. Our MTP protocol was finally implemented as an FPGA chip using the VHDL. We built a testbed for verification of the implemented protocol, and it was shown that the MTP protocol worked correctly and made a throughput of about 800 Mbps. Our future works include the addition of multiplexing and multicasting capabilities to our protocol for multimedia applications.

  • In this paper, we explain the operation scheme and fixed-point design method of DFE (Digital Front End), which performs DC offset compensation, automatic frequency control, and automatic gain control over the input signal to the UE (User Equipment) receiver of IEEE 802.16e OFDMA-TDD system. Then, we analyze the performance of DFE under ITU-R M. 1225 Veh-A 60km/h channel environment. To optimize the fixed-point design of DFE, we reduce the number of bit resulted from calculation without performance degradation, leading to the decreased complexity of the operation in H/W, and design the Loop filter with considering trade-off between the Acquisition time and the Stability.

  • In this paper, a dynamic minislot reservation protocol(DMRP) is proposed and analyzed to improve the performance of the multicast traffic processing in wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) networks. For the proposed protocol analysis, the WDM network architecture with a passive star coupler is used. One pair of transceiver is used for a control channel and the ocher pair of transceiver with one fixed transmitter and one tunable receiver are used for data transmission. In this protocol. the packets which fail to have successful transmission in the present time slot due to data channel and destination collisions, have priority to have successful reservation in the contention-less minislots of the next time slot. Therefore, protocols have improved the throughput and the system delay performance caused by the reduced probabilities of control channel contentions and destination collisions probability. Today, the efficient protocol that can handle the various types of data traffic is needed. As results, the DMRP is useful to improve the performance of throughput and system delay characteristics regardless of the kinds of traffic.

  • In order to control the flow of traffics in ATM networks and optimize the usage of network resources, an efficient control mechanism is necessary to cope with congestion and prevent the degradation of network performance caused by congestion. In this paper, Buffered Leaky Bucket which applies the same control scheme to a variety of traffics requiring the different QoS(Quality of Service) and Neural Networks lead to the effective buffer utilization and QoS enhancement in aspects of cell loss rate and mean transfer delay. And the cell scheduling algorithms such as DWRR and DWEDF for multiplexing the incoming traffics are enhanced to get the better fair delay. The network congestion information from cell scheduler is used to control the predicted traffic loss rate of Neural Leaky Bucket, and token generation rate and buffer threshold are changed by the predicted values. The prediction of traffic loss rate by neural networks can enhance efficiency in controlling the cell loss rate and cell transfer delay of next incoming cells and also be applied for other traffic controlling schemes. Computer simulation results performed for random cell generation and traffic prediction show that QoSs of the various kinds of traffcis are increased.
