Multiple wall dampers for multi-mode vibration control of building structures under earthquake excitation

  • One of the main concerns of civil engineering researchers is developing or modifying an energy dissipation system that can effectively control structural vibrations, and keep the structural response within tolerable limits during unpredictable events like earthquakes, wind and any kind of thrust load. This article proposes a new type of mass damper system for controlling wideband earthquake vibrations, called Multiple Wall Dampers (MWD). The basic principle of the Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) was used to design the proposed wall damper system. This passive energy dissipation system does not require additional mass for the damping system because the boundary wall mass of the building was used as a damper mass. The multi-mode approach was applied to determine the location and design parameters of the dampers. The dampers were installed based on the maximum amplitude of modes. To optimize the damper parameters, the multi-objective optimization Response Surface Methodology was used, with frequency response and maximum displacement as the objective functions. The obtained structural responses under different earthquake forces demonstrated that the MWD is one of the most capable tools for reducing the responses of multi-storied buildings, and this system can be practically used for new and existing building structures.

레토르트 살균처리가 게맛어묵의 품질특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Retort Sterilization on Quality Characteristics of the Imitation Crab Leg)

  • 현재 저온유통만 허가되어 있으며 저장유통기간이 짧은 게맛어묵에 레토르트 살균기술과 반응표면분석법을 도입하여 기존의 풍미나 품질에 손상됨 없이 상온유통과 장기저장이 가능한 게맛어묵을 제조하기 위하여 가열살균기술의 최적화 조건을 구명하였고, 본 레토르트 살균처리가 게맛어묵의 품질특성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 검토하였다. 반응표면분석의 독립변수는 살균량 ($F_0-value$)과 가열온도로 하였으며, 이들의 영향을 받는 가열살균 후의 품질인자, 즉 종속변수는 전단력, 백색도 및 관능적 조직감으로 나타내었다. 레토르트 살균이 게맛어묵의 품질 및 전반적인 식품성분의 변화에 미치는 영향을 검토한 결과, $F_0-value$ 5분 이하의 가열살균에서는 $F_0-value$보다는 가열온도가 게맛어묵의 품질 변화에 미치는 영향이 큰 것으로 나타났으며, $F_0-value$ 2.6분 이상으로 가열살균할 경우 게맛어묵의 무균성이 확인되었다. 반응표면분석 program으로 설정한 레토르트 게맛어묵의 최적 가열살균조건은 전단력의 경우 가열온도는 $115.7^{\circ}C$, $F_0-value$ 3.3분, 백색도는 가열온도 $116.1^{\circ}C$, $F_0-value$ 3.8분, 그리고 관능적 조직감의 최대화 조건은 가열온도 $115.8^{\circ}C$, $F_0-value$ 3.3분이었고, 이 3가지 품질요소를 모두 고려한 multiple response optimization 반응조건은 가열온도 $117.5^{\circ}C$, $F_0-value$는 3.3분이었다.

  • An interactive multicriteria method, which is called the Modified Pairwise Comparison Stochastic Cutting Plane (MPCSCP) method, is proposed for determining the best levels of the integer decision variables needed to optimize a stochastic computer simulation with multiple response functions. MPCSCP combines good features from interactive tradeoff cutting plane methods and response surface methodologies. The proposed method uses a simple pairwise man-machine interaction and searches an integer space uniformly by using the experimental design which evaluates the decision space centering around an integer center point. The characteristics of the proposed method are investigated through an extensive computational study. The parameter configurations examined in the study are (1) variability of the sampling errors, (2) the size of experimental design, (3) the relaxation of cutting planes, and (4) the levels of decision maker's inconsistency.

반응표면분석법-중심합성계획을 이용한 최적 응집제 주입량 산정 연구 (Optimization of coagulant dosage using response surface methodology with central composite design)

  • The determining the appropriate dosage of coagulant is very important, because dosage of coagulant in the coagulation process for wastewater affects removing the amount of pollutants, cost, and producing sludge amount. Accordingly, in this study, in order to determine the optimal PAC dosage in the coagulation process, CCD (Central composite design) was used to proceed experimental design, and the quadratic regression models were constructed between independent variables (pH, influent turbidity, PAC dosage) and each response variable (Total coliform, E.coli, PSD (Particle size distribution) (< $10{\mu}m$), TP, $PO_4$-P, and $COD_{cr}$) by the RSM (Response surface methodology). Also, Considering the various response variables, the optimum PAC dosage and range were derived. As a result, in order to maximize the removal rate of total coliform and E.coli, the values of independent variables are the pH 6-7, the influent turbidity 100-200 NTU, and the PAC dosage 0.07-0.09 ml/L. For maximizing the removal rate of TP, $PO_4$-P, $COD_{cr}$, and PSD(< $10{\mu}m$), it is required for the pH 9, the influent turbidity 200-250 NTU, and the PAC dosage 0.05-0.065 ml/L. In the case of multiple independent variables, when the desirable removal rate for total coliform, E.coli, TP, and $PO_4$-P is 90-100 % and that for $COD_{cr}$ and PSD(< $10{\mu}m$) is 50-100 %, the required PAC dosage is 0.05-0.07 ml/L in the pH 9 and influent turbidity 200-250 NTU. Thus, if the influent turbidity is high, adjusting pH is more effective way in terms of cost since a small amount of PAC dosage is required.

다중반응표면 최적화에서 가중평균제곱오차 최소화법을 위한 선호도사후제시법 (A Posterior Preference Articulation Method to the Weighted Mean Squared Error Minimization Approach in Multi-Response Surface Optimization)

  • 다중반응표면 최적화는 다수의 반응변수(품질특성치)를 동시에 고려하여 최적의 입력변수 조건을 찾는 반응표면분석의 세부 분야이다. 가중평균제곱오차(Weighted Mean Squared Error, WMSE) 최소화법은 평균제곱오차의 두 구성 요소인 제곱편차와 분산에 가중치를 부여한 WMSE를 활용하는데, 반응변수별로 WMSE를 구하여 이들을 종합적으로 최소화한다. 지금까지 WMSE 최소화법과 관련하여 개발된 기법은 대부분 의사결정자의 선호도 정보를 문제풀이 이전에 결정할 것을 요구하는 선호도사전제시법에 해당된다. 그러나 현실적으로 의사결정자가 자신의 선호도 정보를 사전에 정확히 제공하는 것은 매우 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 한계점을 개선하기 위하여 WMSE 최소화를 위한 선호도사후제시법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 의사결정자의 선호도 정보 없이 다수의 비지배적해를 생성한 후, 의사결정자가 생성된 비지배해 중 최고선호해를 선택하는 단계로 진행된다. 제안된 방법은 의사결정자로 하여금 전체 해집합의 트레이드오프 관계를 보다 폭넓은 시각으로 이해한 후 선호도 정보를 제시할 수 있도록 함으로써, 의사결정자의 선호도에 부합하는 최고선호해를 효과적으로 도출할 수 있다.

반응표면법 및 비지배 분류 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 취배수문의 응력 및 변형 최적화 (Optimization of Stress and Deformation of Culvert Gate by using RSM and NSGA-II)

  • A valve is a marine structure that is subjected to multiple seawater loads. Therefore, it is necessary to define the kind of loads applied to it to confirm whether the structure has sufficient strength. In this research, we aimed to find the optimal solution for the stress and deformation of valves under various loads. We first selected design variables and implement a finite element analysis according to changes in the thickness of each component of a valve based on a central composite design. Next we developed a regression model of the response surface. Using this model, we calculated the optimal objective value based on NSGA-II. Finally, to confirm the correspondence between the optimal objective value and the real FEM value, we compared the optimal result and structural analysis result to verify the performance of NSGA-II.

GTAW Double Torch의 육성용접 공정최적화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Overlay Welding Process Optimization of GTAW by Double Torch)

  • 본 연구에서는 STS316 스테인리스강에 가스텅스텐아크용접을 수행하였다. 더블토치 장치를 이용하여 스텔라이트계 육성용접을 실시하였고, 다구찌 기법을 적용하여 경도 측정값에 대한 응답변수를 산출하여 공정 최적화를 도출하였다. 또한 이 공정변수가 육성용접의 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 다구찌 기법에 의한 육성용접의 공정설계에 있어서 다중응답 변수를 고려한 최적공정설계는 매우 유효한 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 각각의 응답변수에 대한 공정변수의 기여도 및 기여도에 대한 영향을 손쉽게 분석할 수 있었다. 육성용접에서 중요한 기계적 특성 요소인 경도값을 고려한 최적공정 조건은 전류 105 A, 전압 18V, 예열온도 $200^{\circ}C$, 후열온도 $100^{\circ}C$로 확인 되었다. 더블토치를 이용한 가스텅스텐아크용접의 최적조건에서 제작된 시험편의 경우 단일 토치를 사용 하였을 때 보다 더블토치를 사용하는 조건에 의해 제작된 시험편의 경우 경도는 8.19% 높은 양호한 특성을 나타내었다.

지표수 지하수 연계운영에 의한 갈수기 지표수-수자원관리 (Conjunctive Management Considering Stream-Aquifer Systems for Drought Season)

  • The purpose of this research was to develop a methodology to determine whether conjunctive surface water and groundwater management could significantly reduce deficits in a river basin with a relatively limited alluvial aquifer. The Geum River basin is one of major river basins in South Korea. The upper region of the Geum River basin is typical of many river basins in Korea where the shape of river basin is narrow with small alluvial aquifer depths from 10m to 20m and where most of the groundwater pumped comes quickly from the steamflow. The basin has two surface reservoirs, Daecheong and Yongdam. The most recent reservoir, Yongdam, provides water to a trans-basin diversion, and therefore reduces the water resources available in the Geum River basin. After the completion of Yongdam reservoir, the reduced water supply in the Geum basin resulted in increasing conflicts between downstream water needs and required instream flows, particularly during the low flow season. Historically, the operation of groundwater pumping has had limited control and is administered separately from surface water diversions. Given the limited size of the alluvial aquifer, it is apparent that groundwater pumping is essentially taking its water from the stream. Therefore, the operation of the surface water withdrawals and groundwater pumping must be considered together. The major component of the conjunction water management in this study is a goal-programmin g based optimization model that simultaneously considers surface water withdrawals, groundwater pumping and instream flow requirements. A 10-day time step is used in the model. The interactions between groundwater pumping and the stream are handled through the use of response and lag coefficients. The impacts of pumping on streamflow are considered for multiple time periods. The model is formulated as a linear goal-programming problem that is solved with the commercial LINGO optimization software package.

RSM-based MOALO optimization and cutting inserts evaluation in dry turning of AISI 4140 steel

  • An experimental study is carried out to investigate the performance of the cutting tool regarding the insert wear, surface roughness, cutting forces, cutting power and material removal rate of three coated carbides GC2015 (TiCN-Al2O3-TiN), GC4215 (Al2O3-Ti(C,N)) and GC1015 (TiN) during the dry turning of AISI4140 steel. For this purpose, a Taguchi design (L9) was adopted for the planning of the experiments, the effects of cutting parameters on the surface roughness (Ra), tangential cutting force (Fz), the cutting power (Pc) and the material removal rate (MRR) were studied using analysis of variance (ANOVA), the response surface methodology (RSM) was used for mathematical modeling, with which linear mathematical models were developed for forecasting of Ra, Fz, Pc and MRR as a function of cutting parameters (Vc, f, and ap). Then, Multi-Objective Ant Lion Optimizer (MOALO) has been implemented for multi-objective optimization which allows manufacturers to enhance the production performances of the machined parts. Furthermore, in order to characterize and quantify the flank wear of the tested tools, some machining experiments were performed for 5 minutes of turning under a depth of 0.5 mm, a feed rate of 0.08 mm/rev, and a cutting speed of 350 m/min. The wear results led to a ratio (VB-GC4215/VB-GC2015) of 2.03 and (VB-GC1015/VB-GC2015) of 4.43, thus demonstrating the efficiency of the cutting insert GC2015. Moreover, SEM analysis shows the main wear mechanisms represented by abrasion, adhesion and chipping.

Development of Cationic Dyeable Polyamide Substrates by Pretreatment with Synthetic Tanning Agent: Statistical Optimization and Analysis

  • Design of experiments (DoE) concept was successfully applied to determine the optimum processing conditions that yield maximum % exhaustion for berberine interaction with synthetic tanning agent pretreated polyamide substrates. The potential of synthetic tanning agent to provide anionic sites on the polyamide for berberine interaction which is cationic in nature was tested to increase the % exhaustion of berberine in this article. Experiments were designed according to Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD). The three factors for synthetic tanning agent pretreatment and two factors for berberine interaction each at five different levels, including central and axial points were considered. Experiments were conducted in a laboratory scale infra-red treatment instrument according to CCRD. For each response, second order polynomial models were developed using multiple linear regression analysis incorporating linear, interactions and squared effects of all variables and then optimized. The significance of the mathematical model developed was ascertained using Excel regression (solver) analysis module. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to check the adequacy and accuracy of the fitted models. The response surfaces and contour maps showing the interaction of process variables were constructed. Applying Monte Carlo simulation, response surface and contour plots, optimum operating conditions were found and at this optimum point, % exhaustion of 81% and 74% respectively for synthetic tanning agent pretreatment and berberine interaction were observed and subsequently the results were experimentally investigated.
