Improved Estimation Method for the Capacitor Voltage in Modular Multilevel Converters Using Distributed Neural Network Observer

  • The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has emerged as a key component in HVDC systems due to its ability to efficiently transmit large amounts of power over long distances. In such systems, accurate estimation of the MMC capacitor voltage is of utmost importance for ensuring optimal system performance, stability, and reliability. Traditional methods for voltage estimation may face limitations in accuracy and robustness, prompting the need for innovative approaches. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed neural network observer specifically designed for MMC capacitor voltage estimation. Our observer harnesses the power of a multi-layer neural network architecture, which enables the observer to learn and adapt to the complex dynamics of the MMC system. By utilizing a distributed approach, we deploy multiple observers, each with its own set of neural network layers, to collectively estimate the capacitor voltage. This distributed configuration enhances the accuracy and robustness of the voltage estimation process. A crucial aspect of our observer's performance lies in the meticulous initialization of random weights within the neural network. This initialization process ensures that the observer starts with a solid foundation for efficient learning and accurate voltage estimation. The observer iteratively updates its weights based on the observed voltage and current values, continuously improving its estimation accuracy over time. The validity of proposed algorithm is verified by the result of estimated voltage at each observer in capacitor of MMC.

  • 다수의 출력변수를 가지고 있는 실시스템에서, 출력변수의 측정치가 어떠한 사정(하드웨어상 혹은 제어대상의 특성 등)에 의하여 동시에 전부 검출되어지지 않고, 측정방식이나 성분이 유의한 것끼리 몇개씩 서로 조금씩 틀린 시각에 측정되어 차례로 디지틀 계산기에 입력되어지는 경우가 있다. 다시 말하면, P개의 검출량이 조금씩 틀린 시각 $kT_{o}+t_{1},kT}o}+t_{2}.{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot},kT_{o}+t_{r}(0{\le}t_{1}{<}t_{2}{<}{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}{<}t_{r}{<}T_{0})$에 각각 $P_{1},P_{2},{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot},P_{r}(P=P_{1}+P_{2}+{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}+P_{r})$개씩 측정되어 얻어지게 된다/ 본 논문에서 말하는 다중 시리얼 샘플링이라고 하는 것은 이와같은 데이터의 취득방식을 의미하고 있다. 종래의 관측기이론에서는 P개의 검출량을 가진 제어대상의 상태추정에는 P개이 데이터를 동시에 필요로 하고 있다. 따라서 종래의 관측기이론을 그대로 상기와 같은 대상에 적용하게 되면, P개의 측정치가 전부 얻어지는 시간 $T_o$마다 상태의 추정치를 갱신하는 관측기가 얻어진다. 그러므로, 이와같은 관측기를 사용하게 되면 임의의 시각에 한조의 출력변수가 검출되더라도 그 정보를 직접 이용하지 못하고 나머지의 출력변수가 전부 검출될 때까지 기다리지 않으면 안되게 되므로, 하드웨어사의 기능을 최대한 이용하지 못하고 있는 것이 아닌가 생각된다. 본 논문에서는 상기와 같은 시스템에 있어서, 한조의 출력변수가 검출될 때마다 관측기의 내부상태를 갱신해서 새로운 상태추정치를 얻을 수 있는 $'$다중시리얼 샘플링형 관측기$'$를 제안하고 그의 구성가능성을 증명한다. 또한, 다중시리얼 샘플링형 관측기의 출력으로 폐루프를 구성하였을 경우, 전체 제어계의 안정성에 관한 문제를 검토하고, 시뮬레이션에 의하여 본 논문에서 제안된 관측기의 유효성을 확인한다.유효성을 확인한다.

  • In industrial multivariable plants, it is often the case that all of plant outputs are measured not simultaneously, but seriallu. While Reference 1 proposed a special type of observer (referred to as "serial-sampling" type obserrversL. which was provento be very effective in this situation, it alsopointed out that the observer may have some minor problems in case of practical applications. In this paper, it isshown that these kind of problems can be resolved by proving the existence of the solution of the simultaneous equations (35) of Reference 1.

  • This paper presents a fault detection asnd isolation algorithm for highly reliable gantry crane system. The algorithm is constructed by multiple PI observer technique, and the magnitude of actuator fault can be estimated by using integrated estimated output error. Also, the complex actuator and /or sensor fault can be detected and isolated by monitoring the integrated error and the estimated state error. Considering the actuator and/or the sensor fault, we verify that these fault can be detected and isolated through simulation. Lastly, we show a simple reliable control method by using the detected fault signal and an added observer.

  • A new FDOs (fault diagnostic observers) and the residual generation schemes using the FDOs are suggested for the process fault detection and isolation of linear (control) systems. The design method of the FDO is described, first, for the full measurement systems. Then it is extended for the systems with unmeasurable state variables. An unknown input observer is proposed and applied for the extension. The size of the observer bank may be the smallest, specially in full measurement systems, because the order of the proposed FDO is very low. In spite of the simplicity, the scheme provides the same information for the detection and isolation of the anticipated faults as the conventional multiple observer based schemes. The residuals may be structured so that fault isolation can be performed by pre-selected logic. An FDIS using the proposed scheme is constructed for the model of the four-tank system. Simulation results show the practical feasibility of the proposed scheme.

  • A major difficulty with the practical application of the multiple observer based IFDI schemes is the computational burden of the residual generation. In this paper, a new residual generator that employs function observers is proposed to reduce the computational burden, and the design methods of the IFDIS, equipped with the residual generator, are presented. The function observers employed in the residual generator can be considered as a dual of the unknown input (function) observer And it can be designed to estimate the measurement errors that are due to sensor faults. The error estimates are further processed to generate the residuals by which reliable fault detection/isolation result car be obtained. The proposed scheme is more useful, in real-time application, than any other multiple state observer based IFDISs. It can be effectively applied to fault tolerant control because the failure effects can be compensated by the use of the estimates of measurement errors. The proposed IFDI scheme is applied to an inverted pendulum control system for the IFDI of failed sensor and fault compensation.

  • 본 논문에서는 로봇 매니퓰레이터의 제어에 사용할 수 있는 신경망 외란 관측기를 제안하도록 한다. 제안한 신경망 외란 관측기는 다층신경망의 구조로 신경망 외란관측기의 오차와 제어 오차가 충분히 작은 콤팩트 집합에 절대 상시 유계된다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 신경망 외란 관측기는 기존의 적응 제어기의 단점을 해결한 방식으로 복잡한 회귀 모델을 필요로 하지 않는다. 끝으로 제안한 방식을 3관절 로봇에 적용하여 그 타당성을 확인한다.

퍼지모델을 이용한 비선형시스템의 센서고장 검출식별 (A Fuzzy Model Based Sensor Fault Detection Scheme for Nonlinear Dynamic Systems)

  • A sensor fault detection scheme(SFDS) for a class of nonlinear systems that can be represented by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is proposed. Basically, the SFDS may be considered as a multiple observer scheme(MOS) in which the bank of state observers and the detection & isolation logic are included. However, the proposed scheme has two great differences from the conventional MOSs. First, the proposed scheme includes fuzzy fault detection observers(FFDO) that are constructed based on the T-S fuzzy model that provides very good approximation to nonlinear dynamic systems. Secondly, unlike the conventional MOS, the FFDOS are driven not parallelly but sequentially according to the predetermined sequence to avoid the massive computational burden, which is known to be the biggest obstacle to the practical application of the multiple observer based FDI schemes. During the operating time, each FFDO generates the residuals carrying the information of a specified fault, and the corresponding fault detection logic unit performs the logical operations to detect and isolate the fault of interest. The proposed scheme is applied to an inverted pendulum control system for sensor fault detection/isolation. Simulation study shows the practical feasibility of the proposed scheme.

무안경식 다시점 입체 디스플레이를 위한 GPU기반 렌더링 기법 (A GPU based Rendering Method for Multiple-view Autostereoscopic Display)

  • 최근 3차원 입체 디스플레이에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 무안경식 다시점 입체 디스플레이(Multiple-view Autostereoscopic Display)는 관찰자가 셔터 글래스(Shutter glasses)또는 HMD(Head Mounted Display)와 같은 특별한 장치를 착용하지 않고도 여러 시점(Multiple-view)에서 입체 영상을 볼 수 있어 가상현실(Virtual Reality), 모바일, 3D TV 등의 분야에서 각광 받고 있다. 하지만, 디스플레이 설계 시 정해진 거리와 시역 내에 관찰자가 위치해 있어야만 입체 영상을 볼 수 있다는 문제점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 무안경식 다시점 입체 디스플레이 시스템을 구축하여 이 시스템에서 관찰자의 시점 변경에도 실시간으로 자연스러운 3차원 입체 영상을 보여 주기 위한 효율적인 GPU기반 렌더링 기법을 제안한다.

함수 관측자를 이용한 고장검출식별기법에 관한 연구 (On the Fault Detection and Isolation Systems using Functional Observers)

  • Two GOS (Generalized Observer Scheme) type Fault Detection Isolation Schemes (FDIS), employing the bank of unknown input functional observers (UIFO) as a residual generator, are proposed to make the practical use of the multiple observer based FDIS. The one is IFD (Instrument Fault Detection) scheme and the other is PFD (Process Fault Detection) scheme. A design method of UIFO is suggested for robust residual generation and reducing the size of the observer bank. Several design objectives that can be achieved by the FDI schemes and the design methods to meet the objectives are described. An IFD system is constructed for the Boeing 929 Jetfoil boat system to show the effectiveness of the propositions. Major contributions of this paper are two folds. Firstly, the proposed UIFO approaches considerably reduce the size of residual generator in the GOS type FDI systems. Secondly, the FDI schemes, in addition to the basic functions of the conventional observer-based FDI schemes, can reconstruct the failed signal or give the estimates of fault magnitude that can be used for compensating fault effects. The schemes are directly applicable to the design of a fault tolerant control systems.
