  • This paper proposes the RMMA (Region based Multiple Modulus Algorithm) algorithm that is possible to improving the performance of MMA adaptive equalization algorithm in order to the reduction of intersymbol interference occurs at the communication channel. In RMMA algorithm, the output constellation of equalizer are divided by 4 different regions in order to get the error signal for adapting the channel characteristic, and the small error signal is obtained by mapping each region to 4-QAM signal. The conversion effect of constant modulus from nonconstant modulus signal was obtained. In this paper, the adaptive equalization performance of proposed RMMA were evaluated comared to the present MMA. As a result of computer simulation, the convergence speed and residual quantity were improved in residual isi and MD. Especially the superiorities of robustness was confirm in SER performance compared to present MMA.

  • This paper compares the equalization algorithm of CR-MMA (Constellation Reduction-Multi Modulus Algorithm) and FC-MMA (Fast Convergence-Multi Modulus Algorithm) for the compensation of channel's distortion in transmitting the 2 dimensional 16-QAM signals. The CR-MMA adaptive equalizer use the error signal by reduce the nonconstant modulus signal to constant modulus signal in order to updates the tap coefficient, and the FC-MMA adptive equalizer use the error signal applying the modified dispersion constant considering the number of symbol level instead of signal point reduction. These two algorithm are known to its superior to the convergence characteristic among the MMA series equalizer. In this paper, the other equalization performance including the convergence characteristic was compared by computer simulation. As a result of computer simulation, FC-MMA has more good performance in the residual isi, maximum distortion and SER performance than CR-MMA, but not in convergence speed.

  • This paper compares the equalization algorithm of CR-MMA (Constellation Reduction-Multi Modulus Algorithm) and RMMA (Region based Multi Modulus Algorithm) for the compensation of channel's distortion in nonconstant modulus signal. In order to obtain the error signal for adaptive equalization, every signal points are reduced to the constant modulus signal in CR-MMA and every signal points are separated into the 4 regions, then the reductions are performed based on this region in RMMA. These two algorithm based on the reduction principle such as in order to updating the tap coefficient in the adaptive equalization, it has different equalization performance. The computer simulation was performed in order to compare the each equalization performance in this paper. As a result of computer simulation, RMMA has more good performance in the residual isi, maximum distortion and SER performance than CR-MMA, but not in convergence speed.

  • This paper compares the SE-MMA (Signed Error-MMA) and QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm in order to compensates the intersymbol interference due to channel in the transmission of spectral efficient nonconstant modulus signal such as 16-QAM. In the currently MMA adaptive equalizer, the error signal is needed for the updating the tap coefficient. The SE-MMA uses the polarity of error signal for reduce the computational operation in that process, the QE-MMA consider the this polarity and finite bit power-of-2 quantized component in that process, so they has different equalization performance. In order to comparing these performance, the computer simulation was performed in the same channel and environment, the output signal constellation of equalizer, residual isi and maximum distortion, MSE, SER were applied. As a result of computer simulation, the QE-MMA have more superior performance than the SE-MMA in every performance index.

  • A differential space-frequency block code - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SFBC-OFDM) scheme as a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission technique for next-generation digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) is proposed in this paper. A linear decoding method for differential SFBC, which performs comparably to the ML decoding method, is derived for the cases of two or four transmit antennas. A simple table lookup method is proposed to improve the efficiency of the encoding/decoding process of DSFBC for the case of non-constant modulus constellations. A DMB MIMO channel model, developed by extending the 3GPP MIMO model to fit DMB environments, is used to compare BER performances of differential space block code schemes for various channel environments. Simulation results show that the differential SFBC-16QAM scheme using either four transmit antennas with one receive antenna or two transmit antennas with two receive antennas achieves a performance gain of 12dB than that of the conventional DQPSK scheme, even with a data rate twice faster.

  • In a multiple-bus multiprocessor system in which processors and memory modulus are interconnected through system buses, time delay due to bus contention degrades system performance. In order to reduce such a problem , and optimal bus arbitration scheme and its hardware are neccessary. In this study, performaces of four arbitration schemes are analyzed and compared : fixed-priority, equal-priority, rotating-priority and round-robin priority schemes. For the study, the software simulator of a multiple-bus multiprocessor system is developed by using SLAM II. Simulation results show that, when memory sccesses are evenly distributed to all memory modulus, round-robin priority scheme provides the best performance. But when a hot spot exists, the use of the fixed priority scheme results in the shortest access time.

  • In order to estimate the accurate location of a user, Global Positioning system (GPS) requires at least four satellites. Since a conventional despreader operate for an GPS signal of interest, we need multiple despreaders for detecting multiple GPS signals. In this paper, we introduce the extension of the recently proposed system consisting of a null despreader, a conventional despreader, multi-stage CM (constant modulus) array, for the multiple GPS signals, and present the mathematical expression of the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR). The extended system does not require the exact information of the direction of arrival (DOA) to suppress the directional interferences. We present the computer simulation to demonstrate the interference suppression performance of the proposed system for multiple GPS signals.

  • The firmness of fruit is one of the most important quality factors and is highly correlated to the elastic modulus. In this study, the ultrasonic transmission method was applied to evaluate the elastic modulus of the apple. In order to transmit and receive the ultrasonic wave through the whole apple, the ultrasonic measurement setup consisted of ultrasonic pulser, two specially fabricated ultrasonic transducers for fruit and digital storage oscilloscope. Ultrasonic parameters such as ultrasonic wave velocity, apparent attenuation, and peak frequencies were analyzed. The elastic modulus of apple was measured by using compression test apparatus. The correlations between ultrasonic parameters and elastic modulus were analyzed. A multiple linear regression model describing the relationship between elastic modulus and ultrasonic parameters was proposed.

  • In the paper, we propose a new CMF(Constant Modulus Fourth) algorithm for WCDMA(Wideband Code Multiple Access) RF(Radio Frequency) Repeater. CMF algorithm is proposed by modifying the CMA(Constant Modulus Algorithm) algorithm and improved performances are achieved by properly adjusting step size values. The steady state MSE(Mean Square Error) performance of the proposed CMF algorithm with step size of 0.35 is about 4dB better than that of the conventional CMA algorithm. And the proposed CMF algorithm requires 400~1100 less iterations than the LMS(Least Mean Square) and NLMS(Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithms at MSE of -25dB.

  • This paper evaluates the equalization algorithm of FC-MMA (Fast Convergence-Multi Modulus Algorithm) and RMMA (Region based Multi Modulus Algorithm) for the compensation of intersymbol interference which is due to the distortion of communication channel. In order to obtain the error signal for adaptive equalization, the FC-MMA use the modified dispersion constant considering the number of signal symbol, the RMMA separates the 4 region which every symbol points are located, then reduce the symbol point based on this region into constant modulus symbol point. By applying the different principle in order to get the error signal for the updating the tap coefficient of adaptive equalizer, it has the different equalization performance by these error signal. The computer simulation was performed in order to compare the different equalization performance in this paper. The performance index includes the output signal constellation, the residual isi and maximum distortion that is for the convergence characteristics, the SER. As a result of computer simulation, RMMA has more good performance in the residual isi, maximum distortion after in steady state and SER performance than FC-MMA, but not in convergence speed to reach the steady state.
