강의 피로균열지연거동에 미치는 과대하중의 영향과 통계적 변동에 관한 연구 (Influence of overload on the fatigue crack growth retardation and the statistical variation)

  • Constant .DELTA.K fatigue crack growth rate experiments were performed by applying an intermediate single and multiple overload for structural steel, SM45C. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the influence of multiple overloads at various stress intensity factor ranges and the effect of statistical variability of crack retardation behavior. The normalized delayed load cycle, delayed crack length and the minimum crack growth rate are increased with increasing baseline stress intensity factor range when the overload ratio and the number of overload application were constant. The crack retardation under low baseline stress intensity factor range increases by increasing the number of overload application, but the minimum crack growth rate decreases by increasing the number of overload application. A strong linear correlation exists between the minimum crack growth rate and the number of overload applications. And, it was observed that the variability in the crack growth retardation behavior are presented, the probability distribution functions of delayed load cycle, delayed crack length and crack growth life are 2-parameter Weibull. The coefficient of variation of delayed load cycle and delayed crack length for the number of 10 overload applications data are 14.8 and 9.2%, respectively.

  • Fatigue crack growth from surface defects is one of the most important subjects for the evaluation and the assurance of safety in pressure vessels, piping systems, LPG/LNG fuel tank and other various structures. This paper attempts to analysis some practical or general problems such as the estimation of crack growth life to penetrate the plate thickness, based on fatigue crack growth a single surface flaw and the interaction of multiple flaws. An experiment on the coalescence of multiple undercuts was carried out under cyclic tension condition as a attempt to the analysis of multiple crack problems. It is noted that the fracture strength is characterized by the analogy to that in a single crack growth.

  • Aircraft structures and engineering structures are always subject to variable amplitude loads. Variable amplitude loads include some kind of loading history; for example, constant amplitude load, single peak overload and block overload etc. Crack growth under variable amplitude loading exhibits retardation effect. In this study, the 4 point bending fatigue test was performed by hydrolic servo fatigue testing machine on 7075-T6 Al-alloy. The retardation effect of overload ratio and numbers of overload cycle was quantitatively studied. 1) Change of retardation effect against increment of overload ratio is more evident when the multiple overload is applied than single overload is done. 2) The number of overload cycle is very important factor about the crack growth retardation effect when the overload ratio is more than 1.75; that is not when the overload ratio is less than 1.75. 3) Overload affected zone size increased gradually by increment of crack growth retardation effect. 4) Crack driving force is more greatly reduced when the crack tip branched off two direction than it sloped to one direction.

Effect of Multiple Circular Holes on Fatigue Crack Growth Path

  • The mechanical fastening has some advantages in respect of the fastening strength and disassemble of the fastened parts. However, at the same time it has some dangerous factors, can cause fatigue crack initiation and propagation due to not only the static loading such as cargo and passengers but also the dynamic loading like vibrations which occur in the engines and the propellers. For this reason, the strength evaluation for the mechanical fastenings along with the sophisticated and detailed mechanical design and the safety evaluation should be executed, In this paper, we were carried out experiments to study fatigue crack growth paths in structures containing the multiple circular holes. It was investigated that how circular holes are affected on fatigue crack growth paths using the specimen consists of A5052-H112, which is widely used as the ship materials. It was found from the experimental results that the fatigue crack as if it is drawn to circular holes when crack tip approach to circular holes. However, it did not go into circular hole if there is the next circular hole. Therefore, the clarification of mechanism on the fatigue crack initiation and the propagation in structures containing the multiple circular holes can be expected in this study.

  • This paper describes a versatile finite element technique which has been used to investigate wide range of structural defects of practical importance. The procedure automatically remeshes the three-dimensional finite element model during the stages of crack growth. Problems include the surface cracks in leak-before-break situations, the shape development of multiple surface defects.

  • 최근 압력용기, 고압배관, LNG Tank 및 선체등의 구조물 파괴에 대한 안전성을 보증하기 위하여, 구조부재의 표면결함에 대한 균열성장 거동을 파악하는 것이 중요한 과제중에 하나라고 인식되어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 단일 및 복수표면 결함의 피로균열 성장을 바탕으로 표면에서 관통되기까지의 균열성장 수명의 추정등 실질적이고 일반적인 문제들을 해석할려고 시도하였다. 또한, 복수균열 문제에 적용하기 위하여 복수 언더컷의 합체진전현상을 검토하였으며 단일 언더컷과 복수 언더컷의 전파특성이 유사함을 밝혔다.

  • The compliance approach to the problem of load sharing between a cracked plate and multiple plate used to bridge the crack. The theory is validated by using calculated stress intensity factors for the multiple load path plate to reduce experimentally observed growth rate to a common base. Calculations are them made on the effect of multiple load path plate width on fatigue crack retardation in order to demonstrate the predictive capability of the technique.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate effects of specimen thickness at various baseline stress intensity factor range levels (ΔK(sub)b), overload application position (a/W) and overload application frequency (OL(sub)HZ) on fatigue crack growth retardation behavior. The principal results are summarized as follows. The amount of retardation for a given ΔK(sub)b level is increased with increasing the baseline stress intensity factor range level for all specimen thickness. The normalized minimum crack growth rate is increased with increasing the specimen thickness, except for ΔK=45MPa√m. The retardation cycle is decreased with increasing a/W and increased with OL(sub)HZ.

The principal results are summarized as follows. The amount of retardation for a given ${\Delta}K_b$ level is increased with increasing the baseline stress intensity level in all specimen thickness. The normalized minimum crack growth rate is increased with increasing the specimen thickness, except for ${\Delta}K=45MPa \sqrt m$.   • The objective of this paper is to develop a computational model for predicting the fatigue propagation of collinear multiple surface cracks under constant amplitude and variable amplitude loadings. After examining fatigue crack growth behavior for CT specimens and single surface crack specimens, empirical equations of(11) and(12) are proposed for the prediction of fatigue life in a multiple surface crack geometry. The accuracy of the proposed model is verified using a life prediction computer program. Several case studies were performed to check the accuracy of the proposed model and to verify the usefulness of the developed program. Good agreement is observed between the numerical results based on the proposed model and the published experimental data.
