Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe levels of multiple stress factors and depression, and to examine the effects of the stress factors on depression among female marriage immigrants in Korea. Methods: Participants were 322 female marriage immigrants currently residing in Korea, who migrated from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and other Asian countries. Stress of female marriage immigrants was measured on the SMFMI (Stress Measure of Female Marriage Immigrants in Korea), consisting of 21 items in four factors (cultural, household economic, emotional, and parenting and discrimination stress). CES-D was used to assess depression among marriage immigrants. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA with Scheffe's post hoc tests, and multiple regressions were performed for data analyses. Results: The average score for stress was 1.34 (SD=.98, theoretical range: 0-4) and the average score for depression was 17.07 (SD=10.09) in these female marriage immigrants. Adjusting for household income, employment status, duration since immigration, and Korean language proficiency, household economic stress (p<.001) was identified as the strongest predictor in explaining depression of female marriage immigrants (Adjusted $R^2=.331$). Conclusion: Health care professionals should prioritize intervention strategies to alleviate household economic stress for mental health promotion in female marriage immigrants in Korea.
Purpose: Work-related stress and risk factors among Korean employees were identified in this study. Methods: Data were obtained from employees aged 20 to 64 using the Korean Working Conditions Survey 2006 (KWCS). Multiple logistic regression analysis using SAS version 9.1 was performed to examine risk factors of work-related stress by gender. Results: The age-adjusted prevalence of work-related stress among male and female employees was 18.4% and 15.1% respectively. After adjustments for multiple variables among both male and female employees, there was a significant relationship between work-related stress and risk factors including education, company size, work time, ergonomic risks, biological chemical risks, and job demands. The significant variables for male employees were housework load, occupational class, and shift work, and for female employees, type of employment. Conclusion: There is a need to develop and support intensive stress management programs nationally giving consideration to work-related stress associated with working time, physical working environment, and job demands. Based on gender specific approaches, for male employes, stress management programs should be developed with consideration being given to occupational class and shift work. For stress management programs for female employees, consideration needs to be given to permanent employment status, specifically those in small companies.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors affecting stress among resort workers. Methods: The subjects of the study were 199 resort workers in a province of Korea. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires that were completed between November 16, 2017 and January 19, 2018. The questionnaire consisted of stress and health promoting behavior and its sub-areas such as health responsibilities, physical activity, nutrition, spiritual growth, interpersonal relations, and stress management. Using the SPSS 23.0 program, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: The mean score of the stress levels of resort workers was $2.3{\pm}0.98$ out of a maximum score of 5. A multiple regression analysis revealed that gender, spiritual growth, and stress management were statistically significant factors in the model (p<.001), with an explanatory power of 35%. Conclusion: Stress levels were considerably high in resort workers. This study suggests that nursing interventions are needed to reduce stress levels and enhance health promoting behavior, especially spiritual growth and stress management, at both an individual and organizational level.
Purpose: The objective of this study is to identify factors associated with perceived health status of married immigrant women. Methods: Data were collected from 65 married immigrant women. The measurements were Symptom checklist-48, Acculturative Stress Scale, Parenting Stress Index(PSI), and Personal Resource Questionnaire(PQR). Descriptive, T-test, ANOVA test, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses were used. Results: There were significant differences in perceived health status according to satisfaction with the married life(F=8.819, p=0.000), and help from husband(F=6.308, p=.003). There was also a significant relationship between perceived health status and perceived economic status (F=8.006, p=.001), acculturative stress (r=.560, p<.01), parenting stress (r=.662, p<.01) and social support (r=-.289, p<.05). The result of multiple regression analysis showed a significant association of parenting stress with perceived health status of married immigrant women (${\beta}=0.397$, p=0.037). Conclusion: Comprehensive interventions designed to enhance the health of married immigrant women, including prevention of acculturative stress, parenting stress and improving social support may be helpful in mitigating health in married immigrant women.
Purpose: The study was done to identify the relationship of symptoms of stress, cancer prevention behavior, the quality of life in women, and the factors influencing the quality of life. Method: The subjects of this study were 210 married women. They were living in Gyeonggi Province and Busan Metropolitan City. Symptoms of stress were measured by the Park's Stress Scale. Cancer preventive behavior was measured by Suh's Korean scale, and Smith Kline Beecham Quality of life' Scale by Dunbar. Data was analyzed with the SPSS program by ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and Multiple Regression Analysis. Result: The higher scores of physical stress correlated with lower practice scores of cancer prevention behavior. Psychological and physical stress revealed negative correlations among sub-items of the QOL such as competence, psychological well-being, stability, physical well-being and activity. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the predictor of quality of life in the women was stress. A combination of symptoms of stress and cancer prevention behaviors accounted for 35.3% of the variance in the quality of life in the women. Conclusion: The most important factor influencing the quality of life of women was stress. Thus the study's findings can be useful in directing a comprehensive nursing care plan to improve the QOL of women.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the tilling depth, tilling travel speed and soil shear stress on the tilling load characteristics and power requirement for rotary tillers. The results obtained from the study are summarized as follows. 1. The average and maximum PTO torque increased as the tilling depth, tilling pitch and soil shear stress increased. A multiple linear regression equation to estimate the average PTO torque in terms of the above parameters was developed. 2. The ratios of maximum PTO torque to the average torque were in the range of 1.17 to 1.65 for the various tilling conditions tested. The variation in PTO torque increased greatly as the tilling pitch and soil shear stress increased, but decreased as the tilling depth increased. 3. Power requirement for the PTO shaft increased with the tilling depth, travel speed and soil shear stress, but decreased slightly as the tilling pitch increased. A multiple linear regression equation to estimate power requirement for the PTO shaft in terms of the above parameters was developed. 4. The specific power requirement for the rotary tiller was in the range of $0.008-0.015ps/cm^2$ for the various tilling conditons tested. The specific tilling capacity decreased as the tilling depth and soil shear stress increased, but increased with the tilling pitch. A multiple linear regression equation to estimate the specific tilling capacity in terms of the above parameters was developed.
Arabidopsis NDPK2 (AtNDPK2) is a key singaling component that regulate cellular redox state and known to enhance multiple stress tolerance when over-expressed in Arabidopsis plant (Moon et al. 2003). In order to develop transgenic potato plants with enhanced tolerance to multiple stresses, we placed an AtNDPK2 cDNA under the control of a stress-inducible SWPA2 promoter or enhanced CaMV 35S promoter. Transgenic potato plants (cv. Superior and Atlantic) were generated using an Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system and selected on MS medium containing 100 mg/L kanamycin. Genomic Southern blot analysis confirmed the incorporation of AtNDPK2 cDNA into the potato genome. When potato leaf discs were treated with methyl viologen (MV) at 10 $\mu$M, transgenic plants showed higher tolerance to MV than non-transgenic or vector-transformed plants. The NDPK2 transgenic potato plants will be further used for analysis of stress-tolerance to multiple environmental stresses.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of adolescent's family function, impulsive behavior, stress on the bullying types. Method: Data were collected from 627 adolescents and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS 18.0. Results: The bullying types (injurer and victim) correlates with family function, impulsive behavior and stress. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed emotional reactivity, non-planning impulsiveness, friends related stress, experience of drinking (yes), experience of parent depression problem (yes), explained 34.1% of the total variance in bully injurer. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed communication, motor impulsiveness, friends related stress, gender (male), grade (junior high school), explained 30.9% of the total variance in bully victim. Conclusion: The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data in providing a better understanding of adolescents' bullying, in preventing bullying and in developing an intervention program.
Ecophysiological parameters of non-transgenic sweetpotato (NT) and transgenic sweetpotato (SSA) plants were compared to evaluate their resistance to multiple environmental stresses. Stomatal conductance and transpiration rate in NT plants decreased markedly from Day 6 after water was withheld, whereas those values in SSA plants showed relatively higher level during this period. Osmotic potential in SSA plants was reduced more negatively as leaf water potential decreased from Day 8 after dehydration treatment, while such reduction was not shown in NT plants under water stressed condition. SSA plants showed less membrane damage than in NT plants. As water stress and high light stress, were synchronously applied to NT and SSA plants maximal photochemical efficiency of PS II ($F_v/F_m$) in NT plants markedly decreased, while that in SSA plants was maintained relatively higher level. This trend of changes in $F_v/F_m$ between SSA plants and NT plants was more conspicuous as simultaneously treated with water stress, high light and high temperature stress. These results indicate that SSA plants are more resistive than NT plants to multiple environmental stresses and the enhanced resistive characteristics in SSA plants are based on osmotic adjustment under water stress condition and tolerance of membrane.
Purpose: Few studies have attempted to explain the childhood's sociality issue in Korea. This study was conducted to investigate the association between obesity stress and sociality factors. Methods : The study subjects were 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from the elementary schools in Kwangju, Anyang, and Hwasung city. The cross sectional study was carried out through the self-reported questionnaire survey about obesity stress, sociality, and socio-demographic characteristics. The data was analyzed by multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 version. Results : Overall, the findings of this study were consistent with previous studies. The measures of obesity stress showed significant negative relationships with measures of childhood sociality. Specifically, the association between mental stress from obesity and socialization was more higher than other variables. In addition, multiple regression analysis found that the effect of mental stress from obesity on childhood sociality was more higher than the effect of stress from physical discomfort and the effort to overcome the obesity stress. Conclusion : Findings provide evidence for the notion that the measures of obesity stress is significantly associated with childhood sociality.
