An Evolutionary Algorithm for Goal Programming: Application to two-sided Assembly Line Balancing Problems (목표계획법을 위한 진화알고리즘: 양면조립라인 밸런싱 문제에 적용)

  • This paper presents an evolutionary algorithm for goal programming with preemptive priority. To do this, an evolutionary strategy is suggested which search for the solution satisfying the goals in the order of the priority. Two-sided assembly line balancing problems with multiple goals are used to validate the applicability of the algorithm. In the problems, three goals are considered in the following priority order: minimizing the number of mated-stations, achieving the goal level of workload smoothness, and maximizing the work relatedness. The proper evolutionary components such as encoding and decoding method, evaluation scheme, and genetic operators, which are specific to the problem being solved, are designed in order to improve the algorithm's performance. The computational result is reported.

  • As manufacturing industries become globalized, product design affects every area of organization. The design sets the goals for a number of different departments, so if it fails to effectively communicate these goals, the entire organization is less efficient. In addition, To communicate clearly, the design must represent a product that meets its technical specification. GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is one of the most important factors, which has an effect on efficiency of manufacture system, in designing products. However, most of designers in different industries are prone to ignore the importance of GD&T. To analyse the importance of GD&T compliance with international standards for design drawing, a comparison analysis of the difference between two methods, composite profile control and multiple single segment profile control, is performed on three different cases and suggests how it used to be more suitable. Composite profile tolerance is specified by a dual feature control frame that has one profile symbol specified with two lines of tolerance information. Whereas a multiple single segment profile control is when two or more single segment profile callouts are used to define the location and/or orientation and/or size and/or form of a part feature. In this study, the following results will be provided : a clear definition and an obvious difference of the tolerance zone, datums and datums sequence and minimization of tolerances. On this study, composite profile tolerance and multiple single segment profile tolerance were discussed. Next steps of research will consist on reaching more accurate results for profile control. Further research will be focused on dealing with the remaining 14 symbols of GD&T.

Effects of Goal Contents on Failure Tolerance: In Focus of Engineering Undergraduates, Graduates, and Experts (목표내용이 공학도의 실패내성에 미치는 영향: 대학생, 대학원생, 전문가를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of goal contents on failure tolerance in engineers (i.e., students and experts in engineering). Based on the goal contents theory, which is a sub-theory of self-determination theory, three intrinsic goals (i.e., self-growth, help, social concern) and two extrinsic goals (i.e., money, fame) were under investigation. A total of 398 participants (118 undergraduate students, 181 graduate students, 99 experts) answered survey questions. In the hierarchical multiple regressions, self-growth goal was entered as the first model, then, to the second model, the other four goals were added. The results showed that social concern goal significantly predicted failure tolerance among all engineer groups. Self-growth goal was closely associated with failure tolerance in undergraduate students and graduate students. Help goal was significant only among graduate students. These results suggest that pursuing intrinsic goals, especially, social concern goal is important to increase failure tolerance. Establishing infrastructure and educational climate for pursuing social concern goal can facilitate the development of personal expertise in engineers as well as the improvement of society.

  • Nowadays, using math logic in great civil projects is considered by the clients to achieve the goals of project including quality optimization, costs, avoiding individual, emotional and political decision making, long-term and short-term goals and they are the main requirements of each project and should be considered by the decision makers to avoid the illogical decision making applied on the majority of civil projects and this imposes great financial and spiritual costs on our country. The present study attempts to present one of the civil projects (Ghasre Shirin storage dam) whose client was not ministry of energy for the first time and the short-term and long-term goals of the private sector were applied based on the triangle of quality, cost and time. Also, the math logic and model (multi-criteria decision making method and decision making matrix) is used in one of the most important sections of project, sealing element, policies and new materials (Geosynthetics) are considered and this leads to suitable decision making in this regard. It is worth to mention that this method is used for other sections of a dam including body, water diversion system, diaphragm and other sectors or in other civil projects of building, road construction, etc.

  • Feeding pigs used to be a means of managing domestic resources that may otherwise have been wasted into valuable animal protein. Feeding pigs thus was a form of husbandry. Following recent rapid industrial development, pig rearing has changed from extensive to intensive, but this transformation has been associated with major concerns. The concentration of large amounts of pig manure in small arrears is environmentally hazardous. Moreover, high densities of animals in intensive production systems also impose a health threat for both animals and humans. Furthermore, the use of growth promoters and preventive medicines for higher production efficiencies, such as in-feed antibiotics, also induces microbial resistance thus affects human therapeutics. In addition, consumers are questioning the ethics of treating animals in intensive production systems. Animal welfare, environmental and bio-safe issues are re-shaping the nature of pig production systems. Feeding pigs thus involves not only the consideration of economic traits, but also welfare traits and environmental traits. Thus, a focus on technological feasibility, environmental sustainability and social desirability is essential for successful feeding operations. Feeding pigs now involves multiple projects with different sustainability goals, but goal conflicts exist since no pattern or scenario can fulfill all sustainability goals and the disagreements are complicated by reduced or even no use of in-feed antibiotics. Thus it is difficult to feed pigs in a manner that meets all goals of high quality, safe product, eco- and bio-sustainability, animal welfare and profit. A sustainable pig production system thus requires a prioritization of goals based on understanding among consumers, society and producers and needs to view from both a local and global perspective.

The Relationship between the Types of Stress Coping and Life Goals for College Freshmen

  • This study was a descriptive cross-sectional study using questionnaire that analyzed the relationship between stress coping types and life goals in the freshmen. The study period lasted from May 1, 2020 to May 20, 2020. A total of 282 people participated in the study, with freshmen enrolled in C and J provinces. The collected data were analyzed frequency, t-test, multiple regression, and Pearson correlation using SPSS 18.0. As a result, the passive(r=.202, p<0.05), aggressive(r=.243, p<0.05), Supportive(r=.255, p<0.01) and active stress coping types(r=.410, p<0.01) were correlated with achieve oriented life goal. And Supportive(r=.383, p<0.01), Active stress coping types(r=.497, p<0.01) were correlated with life oriented goal. According to gender, men (Mean 1.87, SD=0.62) had higher aggressive stress coping types than women (Mean=1.54, SD=0.52) (t=4.202, p=.000). People with achieve oriented life goals were found to have an effect on passive (t=7.176, p<0.01), aggressive (t=1.974, p<0.05) and evasive stress coping types (t=4.207, p<0.01). People with life oriented life goals were found to have ab effect on passive (t=6.331, p<0.01)), active stress coping types (t=2.101, p<0.05). In addition, passive (t=2.946, p<0.01), aggressive (t=4.067, p<0.01) and evasive stress coping types (t=2.624, p<0.01) affected achieve oriented goals, supportive stress coping types (t=5.438, p<0.01) affected the life oriented life goal, and active stress coping type affected on both achieve (t=4.061, p<0.01) and life oriented life goal (t=6.905, p<0.01).

A Multi-Dimensional Radio Resource Scheduling Scheme for MIMO-OFDM Wireless Systems

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technologies provide additional dimensions of freedom with spectral and spatial resources for radio resource management. Multi-dimensional radio resource management has recently been identified to exploit the full dimensions of freedom for more flexible and efficient utilization of scarce radio spectrum while provide diverse quality of service (QoS) guarantees. In this work, a multi-dimensional radio resource scheduling scheme is proposed to achieve above goals in hybrid orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and space division multiple access (SDMA) systems. Cochannel interference (CCI) introduced by frequency reuse under SDMA is eliminated by frequency division and time division between highly interfered users. This scheme maximizes system throughput subjected to the minimum data rate guarantee. for heterogeneous users and transmit power constraint. By numerical examples, system throughput and fairness superiority of the our scheduling scheme are verified.

  • This paper studies to develop the procedure which is combined by the progressive goals and progressive weights generation method. This procedure minimizes the number of questions the decision maker has to make, and also satisfies the generated minimum goal of each objective function. With the procedure developed, we are able to improve the previous multiple objective linear programming techniques in two points.

  • This study deals with the traffic accidents at the 3-legged signalized intersections in Cheongu. The goals are to analyze the geometric, traffic and operational conditions of intersections and to develop a various functional forms that predict the accidents. The models are developed through the correlation analysis, the multiple linear, the multiple nonlinear, Poisson and negative binomial regression analysis. In this study, two multiple linear, two multiple nonlinear and two negative binomial regression models were calibrated. These models were all analyzed to be statistically significant. All the models include 2 common variables(traffic volume and lane width) and model-specific variables. These variables are, therefore, evaluated to be critical to the accident reduction of Cheongju.
