Applying the ADDIE Instructional Design Model to Multimedia Rich Project-based Learning Experiences in the Korean Classroom

  • The purpose of this study was to apply the ADDIE instructional design model to develop multimedia rich project-based learning methods for effective instruction in a Korean mechanical engineering high school. This study was conducted as action research based on a high school situation. The study included 40 participants in a class purposively selected from 52 classes at 2080 student high school. Data were collected through observations, surveys and artifacts. Results indicated the multimedia rich project-based learning allowed students to take part in learning activities and there was close cooperation with and among group members to create better products. Also, the flexibility in the project-based learning environment allowed the participants to make decisions about their abilities, resources, and plans. Recommendations and implications for teacher educators as well as in-service and pre-service teachers are also presented.

  • Currently for the development of internet and network technology, since request of service for the large volume multimedia data has been more increased, multimedia users want the convenience and accuracy of multimedia service system about storing and retrieving of the multimedia contents. To satisfy the request of users, metadata management for the diverse information of multimedia contents is very important. However, the metadata management for the multimedia contents is difficult because the metadata standards are different each other for the type of multimedia data and service. In this paper, we propose the integration metadata management system structure which extends previous metadata management system based on text for the multimedia contents metadata which are expressed differently each other according to the multimedia data or service type.

멀티미디어 디자인에서 사용자 인터페이스 그래픽 메타포 유형에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Forms of Graphical User Interface Metaphor in Multimedia Design)

  • 애플(Apple)사가 매킨토시 컴퓨터에 데스크탑 오피스 메타포(desktop-office metaphor)를 채택한 이래로 멀티미디어 제품 및 서비스 개발을 위해 사용자에게 친숙한 지식, 관념, 이미지 등을 은유적으로 표현하는 방식의 사용자 인터페이스 구현은 보편화되어 있다. 메타포는 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에서 정보의 유형 또는 실체를 명확하게 해주기 위한 형식체계의 하나로 활용될 수 있으나, 이와 같은 인터페이스와 메타포의 관계에 대한 이론적 체계가 확립되어 있지 못한 상태에 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 멀티미디어 디자인 분야에서 핵심 영역으로 간주되고 있는 '사용자 인터페이스'에 대하여 고찰하고, '사용자 인터페이스'와 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있는 '그래픽 메타포 유형'에 관하여 탐색하였다. 본 연구의 결과로 제시된 7가지의 그래픽 메타포 유형은 향후 멀티미디어 디자인 분야에서의 사용자 인터페이스 연구를 위한 지식체계의 하나로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

  • KORTASAT-III is planning to provide Ka-band broadband communication service, including eastsouth Asia area. In this paper, we calculate the link budget for Ka-band KOREASAT-III multimedia service and describe the performance of multimedia services according to link design parameters. There are Trunk service, Television receive only service, Two-way point-to-multipoint service, Tele-education service in the service scenario.

  • The change of digital convergence service environment converted the subject of design into user -centric one instead of developer-centric one, and changed the existing design environment focused on product development into the new user -centric design environment. Accordingly, GUI considering user's usability come to take big shares in those contents being used for multimedia equipments. However, as the present educational contents provide complex interface due to its design produced based on the existing e-learning system, they have many problems in that they don't consider user's usability. Thus this paper aimed to analyze actual examples through GUI elements of educational contents being used for multimedia equipments and attempt to suggest some directions for development. additionally, consider the various characteristics of digital convergence environment and educational contents, and try to set up strategic directions possible to utilize user'-centric interface elements more usefully and properly at the time to produce designs.

미혼 여성의 산부인과 방문 경험 개선 연구 - 서비스 디자인 방법론을 활용하여 (A Study on Improving Experience of Visiting Obstetrics and Gynecology of Single Women - Using Service Design Methodology)

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the experience of visiting obstetrics and gynecology of single women. After analyzing previous studies on Korean single women's perception of visiting obstetrics and gynecology, Contextual Interviews and Cultural Probes were conducted on single women in their 20s who visited obstetrics and gynecology. Based on this, personas were constructed to solidify the direction of problem solving by identifying the behavioral patterns and characteristics of single women. In this study, factors that hinder unmarried women's visits to obstetrics and gynecology and improvement measures were derived based on the information obtained using service design tools such as User Journey Mapping and Stakeholders' Map. Afterwards, a preference survey was conducted to increase the persuasiveness of the proposed method. The follow-up research task is to produce and propose the derived solution as a prototype that can be used in the actual field, and then proceed with user evaluation.

  • 멀티미디어 데이터베이스 시스템에서는 멀티미디어 데이터를 질의하고 질의 결과를 어떻게 프리젠테이션 할 것인가에 대한 연구는 매우 중요하다. 또한 질의의 결과를 다양한 응용에서 사용하기 위해서는 보다 일반화된 형태로 질의결과를 제공해야 할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 페이퍼베이스 시스템에서 멀티미디어 프리젠테이션을 지원하는 MMSQL 질의처리기를 설계하고 구현하였다. 또한 질의 결과 프리젠테이션을 보다 일반화된 형태인 SMIL문서로 제공하도록 함으로써 질의 결과를 다양한 응용에서 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • There has been a study about the effective multimedia education using a computer following the appearance of a virtual space. Also, there has been an effort to connect the information & communication technology with education. The popular on-line lecture systems are mostly on English lecture sites. However, they just offer the VOD(Video On Demand) services ignoring students' convenience. To improve these week points, we design and implement the multimedia leaching system focusing on an efficient repeat-effect in order that students can control the Media Player by clicking a sentence on a web page. This paper presents the Editor and Player considering students' interest and the effective learning fruits. So users can easily make multimedia materials and use them to improve their English listening skill.

A Cross-Layer Approach to Fair Resource Allocation for Multimedia Service in WiMAX

  • In this paper, a cross-layer resource allocation mechanism is proposed for wireless multimedia service. In particular, a game theory based on quality of service (QoS) for multimedia users is introduced to deal with the fairness of network resource allocation in wireless networks. Moreover, the channel states of wireless users are additionally regarded under the cross-layer design in WiMAX environment. In details, the bargaining solution is adopted to discover the efficient and fair resource allocation strategy for multimedia service in considering QoS in the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and the channel states in the carrier-to-interface ratio (CINR). The proposed mechanism is illustrated and evaluated by simulation results of transmitting video sequences in WiMAX environment.

분산 멀티미디어 환경에서 결함 허용 에이전트의 설계 및 구현 (A Design and Implementation of Fault Tolerance Agent on Distributed Multimedia Environment)

  • In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the FDRA(Fault Detection Recovery based on Agent) running on distributed multimedia environment. DOORAE is a good example for distributed multimedia and multimedia distance education system among students and teachers during lecture. It has primitive service agents. Service functions are implemented with objected oriented concept. FDRA is a multi-agent system. It has been environment, intelligent agents interact with each other, either collaboratively or non-collaboratively, to achieve their goals. The main idea is to detect an error by using polling method. This system detects an error by polling periodically the process with relation to session. And, it is to classify the type of error s automatically by using learning rules. The merit of this system is to use the same method to recovery it as it creates a session. FDRA is a system that is able to detect an error, to classify an error type, and to recover automatically a software error based on distributed multimedia environment.
