In this study, we are concerned with the comparative aspects of five selected methods of decision making with respect to their adequacy in helping complex decisions about real-world problems. We examine the methods in terms of outlines, procedures and advantages/disadvantages to identify similarities and differences among them with the aim of showing which method is more likely to gain greater attention both in academia and in practice. To illustrate different courses of deployment of the methods, we offer an application with a case of airport transportation project in this paper. Some discussions on AHP and other methods are presented.

In the cellular mobile communications as decreasing the cell radius to increse the reuse factor of frequencies, the handoff requests are increasing so that the efficient handoff decision making becomes a crucial problem. In this simulation study, we evaluate a set of handoff algorithms based on fuzzy-multicriteria decision making. These algorithms uses the parameters including the received signal strength intensity, the bit error rate and the distance between a mobile station and a base station. We compare the fuzzy algorithms in terms of call block ratio and handoff request ratio and call force ratio, and show the applicability of those algorithms in the cellular mobile communication systems.
The importance of maritime sector in Korea has been increasingly recognized in recent days. As the country enters the $\ulcorner$new ocean era$\lrcorner$ the oceans are often regarded as holding the keys to solve the problems of modem industry associated with changing environment as well as changing societies and national politics. This paper attempts to address the national maritime R&D policies and their relative importances. In the methodology, Saaty's analytic hierarchy process model is used to evaluate and rank the selected maritime R&D projects which have a wide range of characteristics and policy implications. The criteria used for policy evaluation relates specifically to the Korea's evaluation needs and culture, and those criteria are weighted according to their relative importance as perceived by the maritime R&D specialists.

In this study, basic strategies for the decommissioning and site remediation of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) were investigated. Six scenarios were formulated based on two of the three decommissioning strategies of nuclear power plants defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA): immediate dismantling and deferred dismantling. A multicriteria decision analysis was performed to analyze the preferences of the options from the viewpoints of the timeframe to complete decommissioning, the resulting waste, the site usability, and the availability of the radioactive waste disposal route. The same six scenarios were applied to both the FDNPS and the nuclear power plants that ceased operation after a normal plant life cycle for comparison. For the FDNPS, the decommissioning project involved fuel debris retrieval, dismantling, and site remediation. The analysis results suggest that the balance between the amount of waste and the time to achieve the end state may be one of the most critical factors to consider when planning the decommissioning and site remediation of the FDNPS.

In this study, the multi-criteria decision-making model based on Quality Function Deployment Method is proposed. Multicriteria decision-making is an attempt to link QFD method with the TOPSIS. By this effort, a model that makes client's decision-making more rational and objective in design phase is suggested. The multi-criteria decisionmaking model confirming to the Owner's requirements will improve the productivity of the construction industry and the satisfaction of the customer. Further study extending the range of the requirements, not only the Owner's requirement will be necessary to cover the various factors as much as possible. And then, finally as a flexible platform to achieve a sustainable quality management, web-based multi-criteria decision-making model can be utilized by the relevant stakeholders simultaneously with the feed-back and sharing the necessary informations.

The purpose of this study was to find the method of spatial analysis using GIS that would best reflect the characteristics of study area. The purpose was successfully achieved. In order to carry out multicriteria decision analysis of the study results, the spatial analysis process reflecting the characteristics of study area was examined through stages of evaluation criteria standardization and evaluation indicator weighting decision. In the stage of evaluation criteria standardization, the characteristics of study area could be reflected through the adjustment of critical when converting a real value to a general value. In the stage of evaluation indicator weighting determination, the characteristics of the study area were reflected using the present condition of land use. The results of evaluating the grades of development-potential regions by reflecting characteristics of study area showed high correlativity between already developed region and new developing region. Such results show that, in spatial analysis, by combining expert questionnaire survey and literature survey, this method which reflects the characteristics of an area is very reasonable.

The purpose of this study is to explore a significant HPWS(High Performance Work System) model for the entertainment industry. HPWS is one of the most studied themes for managing human resources as well as a set of practices to elicit employees' commitment to an organization. Recently, the entertainment industry is growing rapidly, but it is difficult for entertainment firms to retain a stable profit unlike the manufacturing industry. This is because the performance of entertainment business tends to rely heavily on the capabilities and synergy of human resources. In order to suggest a systematic way to manage these, this research identified an effective HPWS model for entertainment business and provides a competitive advantage to entertainment firms, using ANP(Analytic Network Process). ANP is a multicriteria decision making technique that allows dependences and feedbacks among decision elements in the hierarchical or network structures in a holistic manner. The pairwise comparison data that prioritized the criteria of HPWS was collected from 28 team leaders in entertainment firms. According to our results, the most critical factor for HPWS in entertainment business is "employee involvement in decision-making." The sub-factors such as "open communication," "distributive decision-making," and "performance-driven reward" have a greater effect. These findings could provide implications for entertainment firms to determine which practices should be taken into account to accomplish HPWS.
The problem of the sentence-based pronunciation evaluation task is defined in the context of subjective criteria. Three subjective criteria (that is, the minimum subjective word score, the mean subjective word score, and first impression) are proposed and modeled with the combination of word-based assessment. Then, the subjective criteria are approximated with objective sentence pronunciation scores obtained with the combination of word-based metrics. No a priori studies of common mistakes are required, and class-based language models are used to incorporate incorrect and correct pronunciations. Incorrect pronunciations are automatically incorporated by making use of a competitive lexicon and the phonetic rules of students' mother and target languages. This procedure is applicable to any second language learning context, and subjective-objective sentence score correlations greater than or equal to 0.5 can be achieved when the proposed sentence-based pronunciation criteria are approximated with combinations of word-based scores. Finally, the subjective-objective sentence score correlations reported here are very comparable with those published elsewhere resulting from methods that require a priori studies of pronunciation errors.
Currently, selecting comparative standard land parcels for evaluating individual public land price is done by cadastral officers manually. Due to the amount of land parcels to be evaluated in a short period of time and the subjective methodology adopted, the results are not satisfactory and affect the final individual public land price evaluation. This study aims to develop, implement, and test a new automatic and objective methodology for selecting comparative standard land parcels using spatial multi criteria decision making rules. We conclude that spatial multiattribute decision making rules perform very well in this kind of problem and especially an AHP based method is highly appropriate for this purpose.
