In this paper, we propose a method for an arbitrary-view image generation in multi-view video and methods for pre- and post-processing to compensate unattended regions in the generated image. To generate an arbitrary-view image, camera geometry is used. Three dimensional coordinates of image pixels can be obtained by using depth information of multi-view video and parameter information of multi-view cameras, and by replacing three dimensional coordinates on a two dimensional image plane of other view, arbitrary-view image can be reconstructed. However, the generated arbitrary-view image contains many unattended regions. In this paper, we also proposed a method for compensating these regions considering temporal redundancy and spatial direction of an image and an error of acquired multi-view image and depth information. Test results show that we could obtain a reliably synthesized view-image with objective measurement of PSNR more than 30dB and subjective estimation of DSCQS(double stimulus continuous quality scale method) more than 3.5 point.
In this paper, a server and client simulator for the web-based multi-view 3D image communication system is implemented by using the IEEE 1394 digital cameras, Intel Xeon server computer and Microsoft's DirectShow programming library. In the proposed system, two-view image is initially captured by using the IEEE 1394 stereo camera and then, this data is compressed through extraction of its disparity information in the Intel Xeon server computer and transmitted to the client system, in which multi-view images are generated through the intermediate views reconstruction method and finally display on the 3D display monitor. Through some experiments it is found that the proposed system can display 8-view image having a grey level of 8 bits with a frame rate of 15 fps.

Multi-view super-resolution (MVSR) refers to the process of reconstructing a high-resolution (HR) image from a set of low-resolution (LR) images captured from different viewpoints typically by different cameras. These multi-view images are usually obtained by a camera array. In our previous work [1], we super-resolved multi-view LR images via image fusion (IF) and blind deblurring (BD). In this paper, we present a new MVSR method that jointly realizes IF and BD based on an integrated energy function optimization. First, we reformulate the MVSR problem into a multi-channel blind deblurring (MCBD) problem which is easier to be solved than the former. Then the depth map of the desired HR image is calculated. Finally, we solve the MCBD problem, in which the optimization problems with respect to the desired HR image and with respect to the unknown blur are efficiently addressed by the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Experiments on the Multi-view Image Database of the University of Tsukuba and images captured by our own camera array system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
In this paper, we propose a super-resolution (SR) image reconstruction algorithm using multi-view images. We acquire 25 images from multi-view cameras, which consist of a $5{\times}5$ array of cameras, and then reconstruct an SR image of the center image using a low resolution (LR) input image and the other 24 LR reference images. First, we estimate disparity maps from the input image to the 24 reference images, respectively. Then, we interpolate a SR image by employing the LR image and matching points in the reference images. Finally, we refine the SR image using an iterative regularization scheme. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides higher quality SR images than conventional algorithms.

Even though a multi-view camera system is able to capture multiple images at different viewpoints, the color distributions of captured multi-view images can be inconsistent. This problem decreases the quality of multi-view images and the performance of post-image processes. In this paper, we propose an improved polynomial model for effectively correcting the color inconsistency problem. This algorithm is fully automatic without any pre-process and considers occlusion regions of the multi-view image. We use the 5th order polynomial model to define a relative mapping curve between reference and source views. Sometimes the estimated curve is seriously distorted if the dynamic range of extracted correspondences is quite low. Therefore we additionally estimate the first order polynomial model for the bottom and top regions of the dynamic range. Afterwards, colors of the source view are modified via these models. The proposed algorithm shows the good subjective results and has better objective quality than the conventional color correction algorithms.
Multi-view function is important to three-dimensional displays without dedicated glasses. It is the reason that the observers earnestly desire to change their positions freely. Multi-viewing is also principal to the reality of three-dimensional (3D) image displayed on the screen. The display of projection type has the advantage that the number of viewing points can be easily increased according to the number of projectors. The authors research on multi-view projection display with hologram screen. Powerful directionality of the diffracted beam from hologram screen is required unlike two-dimensional (2D) display. We developed a new method that all diffracted beams satisfied the same Bragg condition and became sufficiently bright to observe the 3D image under usual indoor light. The principle is based on the essential Bragg diffraction in the three-dimensional space. Owing to such three-dimensional Bragg diffraction we achieved an excellent hologram screen that could be multiple reconstructed in spite of single recording. This hologram screen is able to answer arbitrary numbers of viewing points within wide viewing zone. The distortion of 3D image becomes also sufficiently small with the method of dividing the cross angle between illumination and diffraction beam.

The multi-view video is a collection of multiple videos capturing the same scene at different viewpoints. Thus, there is an advantage of providing for user oriented view pointed video. This paper is suggested that the compression performance of layered depth image structure expression has improved by using more improved method. We confirm the data size of layer depth image by encoding H.264 technology and the each performances of reconstructed images. The H.264/AVC technology has easily extended for H.264 technology of video contents. In this paper, we suggested that layered depth structure can be applied for an efficient new image contents. We show that the huge data size of multi-view video image is decreased, and the higher performance of image is provided, and there is an advantage of for stressing error restoring.
Image-based 3D object detection is one of the important and difficult problems in autonomous driving and robotics, and aims to find and represent the location, dimension and orientation of the object of interest. It generates three dimensional (3D) bounding boxes with only 2D images obtained from cameras, so there is no need for devices that provide accurate depth information such as LiDAR or Radar. Image-based methods can be divided into three main categories: monocular, stereo, and multi-view 3D object detection. In this paper, we investigate the recent state-of-the-art models of the above three categories. In the multi-view 3D object detection, which appeared together with the release of the new benchmark datasets, NuScenes and Waymo, we discuss the differences from the existing monocular and stereo methods. Also, we analyze their performance and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of them. Finally, we conclude the remaining challenges and a future direction in this field.
Multi-view video system provides both realistic 3D feelings and free-view navigation. But it is hard to transmit too huge data, so we send only two or three view images and generate intermediate view image using depth information. In this paper, we propose high quality multi-view image generation method from stereoscopic images. Since the stereo matching method does not provide accurate disparity values for all the pixels, especially at the occlusion area, we propose an occlusion handling method using the background pixels at first. We also apply a joint bilateral filtering to enhance the disparity map at the object boundary since it can affect the quality of synthesized images significantly. Finally, we can generate virtual view images at intermediate view positions using confidence map to reduce bad pixel and hole's error. Experimental results show the proposed method performs better than the conventional method.
Realistic videos using multi-view videos are created so that the contents shown on multi-view displays or screens look realistic. These images have been mostly used for special videos for exhibition, but, recently, systems such as Screen X have given rise to multi-view images as a format for storytelling contents such as movies. This study used HD-level broadcasting digital video camera with three zoom lenses for shooting wide to close-up shots focusing on a person, in the same way as Screen X, and identified and analyzed problems found during multi-view image registration correction. The results of this study suggested, provided the shooting technique and equipment are improved, the multi-view format can be used for conveying stories and information. Future research will need to investigate and supplement relevant techniques that will enable production of high-quality multi-view image contents by using a cinema-grade camera with standard lenses, instead of using broadcasting-grade zoom lenses.
